Workin’ Man 30 to run at BMP tonight

BECKLEY — They like to spread the fun — and the money — around at Beckley Motorsports Park.

This week the AMRA Modifieds will have the big race, the Workin’ Man 30 featuring the AMRA Road Warrior Tour.

The winner will take home $1,000.

“It should bring the ‘best of West Virginia,’” track promoter Jim Williams said. “They put on a great show last year.”

Last week the 3/8-mile dirt track in Prosperity hosted the annual Randy Thurman 30 for the Super Late Models.

Kennie Compton Jr. took the checkered flag and the $3,000 payday, beating out runner-up Jacob Hawkins and third-place Jared Hawkins.

Butch McGill was fourth while Chris Meadows was fifth, Harold Redman Jr. sixth and Beckley points leader Rick Williams seventh in the 18-car field.

Rick Williams is atop the standings with 320 points, followed by Jason Cochran with 190 and Brad Jarrell with 184.

Meadows, who has two victories, is fourth with 182 points while Josh Brunty is fifth at 164 and track veteran Eslie Bills is sixth at 160.

Redman captured the 10-lap K.G. Thurman Dash for Cash, pocketing $500. Compton was second, while Jacob Hawkins, Steve Wilmoth, McGill and G.R. Smith completed the field.

“It was great racing last week, even down to the Hornet Class,” Jim Williams said. “We had a good car count.”

In other races:

-- Kenny Johnson won the AMRA Modified Moonshine 25. J.C. Casto and Jim Fordyce were second and third, respectively.

MIke Duncan leads the points race with 370, followed by Joe Cox with 360, Ryan Williams with 256, Casto with 338 and Buddy Brogan with 256.

-- Nathan Harrison came in first in the Fastrak Crate Late Models’ Barefoot 25. Eddie Hambrick, Jr. was second and Joe Loudin was third.

Steve Adkins Jr. is No. 1 in points with 558. Aaron Barley is second with 501, followed by Chad Justice with 440, Jeff Lilly with 364 and Tate Hughes with 352.

-- Kevin Fitzwater took the Pure Stock feature, followed by Charles Johnson and Bill Pritchard, Jr.

Ryan Wakeford leads a tight points race with 358. James Bolon is breathing down his neck with 352 while Robert Richardson has 350 points, Steve Stover has 344 and Pritchard has 340.

“Those guys in the top 5 all want to win the championship and have the bragging rights through the winter,” Williams said. “I’m not sure any of them have ever actually won the championship, so it’s just a great battle and great racing in that class.”

-- Adam Lilly won the Kids Hornets class. Cameron Miller and Michael Moore came in next.

Tiffany Richardson leads the class with 376 points, followed by D.J. Critchley (354), Moore (324), Miller (308) and Lilly (382).

Hot Laps begin at 7 p.m. tonight with qualifying, heat races and features to follow.
