Kenny Wallace has sent word.
The NASCAR driver and commentator is coming back today to Beckley Motorsports Park, ready for all comers.
“We’ve given Kenny a tough time about how our local drivers will beat him, and he said, ‘Good luck to them!’” track co-manager Joe Jackson said. “He’s looking forward to it.”
Wallace had a blast last year at BMP, greeting fans before the races and then dominating the field with his Modified class car.
He’ll race again today, beginning at 7 p.m. at the 3/8th-mile oval dirt track in Prosperity.
Wallace is bringing his hauler with two cars. He stopped overnight in Illinois to race at a local dirt track, and was to head on this morning to Beckley.
He’ll have a private lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings with track staff and fans who won a special drawing. He’ll then sign autographs for other fans when gates open at 4 p.m. at BMP.
“The fans are excited, and the drivers are looking forward to it. They want a shot at him again,” Jackson said. “We’ve got a couple of guys coming up from Charlotte who have raced here before.
“It’s 3 1/2 hours, and they don’t come up unless it’s a big show. But they want to try to (beat) Kenny Wallace on dirt.”
All six classes will run tonight at the track, starting with Wallace and the Modifieds class. Following the feature race, he’ll head for an airplane and fly to Concord, N.C. for his commentary work on The Speed Channel. Next week he’ll drive a NASCAR Nationwide car at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Wallace is known for his lively, friendly personality. He constantly lights up the Twitter message board.
“We’re thrilled to death to have Kenny because people love him,” said Billie Joe Jackson, the other track co-manager. “He’s a wonderful guy. Down to earth. He’s not what you’d think, being a star.
“He’s just a personable guy.”
