Dates set for BNI golf tourney

The evenings are growing longer, and the sun is shining brighter.

It must be time for golf.

The 34th edition of the BNI Memorial Golf Classic will be played July 12, 13 and 14, and the format will be much the same as it was last summer.

Competitors will be split between Grandview Country Club and Brier Patch Golf Links on the first day, and they’ll switch to the opposite course for the second round. The final round will once again be played at The Cobb Course at The Resort at Glade Springs.

Tournament director Dave Hunter said entry forms will be sent out in the near future, and he’s asking for all golfers who participated in last year’s event to e-mail him at dhunter0119@yahoo.com or call him at 304-573-8926 with their e-mail and physical addresses.

Brandon Reece won last year’s event to claim his third BNI title. Kelly Shumate, the director of golf course maintenance at The Greenbrier, finished second.

The BNI, sponsored by Beckley Newspapers, serves as a reunion of sorts each summer for golfers from around the country that return to the Beckley area to hit the links.
