Toughman slated for March 28-29

BECKLEY — For 35 years, there have been four words that have rang throughout the coalfields of southern West Virginia: How tough are you?

Jerry Thomas’ West Virginia Sports Promotions Inc. Original Toughman Contest will return to the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center on Friday, March 28, and Saturday, March 29, as men and women from all around the area set out to prove that they are the toughest man and woman alive and take home up to $12,000 in prize money.

Both the mens and womens divisions will be broken up into four weight classes: Heavyweight (185-400 lbs.), light heavyweight (160-184 lbs.), middleweight (140-159 lbs.) and lightweight (up to 139 lbs).

Also announced for this year’s event will be a bout for the vacant WBF Intercontinental and WV State Cruiserweight titles, when Oak Hill’s own Bobby Thomas Jr. (13-2-1, 19 KO’s) will step into the ring with Warren “Hitman” Browning (18-3-1, 12 KO’s) of Lenore. This will be the third contest between the two fighters. Thomas won the first due to referee stoppage in Huntington on Jan. 12, 2013. The duo then fought to a draw six months later in Madison.

Fighters interested in competing in this year’s event can sign up at www.wvtoughman.com or  by calling 1-800-296-3897.

Tickets are on sale now at the convention center box office and Whitesville State Bank in Whitesville, Crab Orchard and Glen Daniel. Prices are $15 for general admission, $20 reserved and $30 for VIP.

And if you’re more of a lover than a fighter, once again, the “Miss Ring Girl Contest” will be held, with the winner receiving $1,000. Interested ladies can sign up at www.wvtoughman.com.
