SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. —
Local sports fans cheer success for a Mickelson on the golf course, but not necessarily on the diamond. Cooper Mickelson’s RBI single in the bottom of the eight inning proved to be the game winner as Slippery Rock slipped by the Miners 3-2 Tuesday.
The Miners fell behind early 2-0, but rallied for two runs in the top fifth inning to tie the score, but could not find the plate the rest of the evening.
The loss coupled with a Butler Blue Sox win drops the Miners lead to three games in the Eastern Division of the Prospect League standings and leaves their magic number at three to win the division.
The Miners will send Kevin Johnstone to the hill tonight in hopes to salvage a split of the two-game series.
