Beckley Area Derby Dames to host "Summertime Bruise" Saturday

BECKLEY — The undefeated Beckley Area Derby Dames will defend their title Saturday as they battle against the Star City Roller Girls in an event labeled “Summertime Bruise.”

The Dames traveled to Roanoke back in February to bout against the Star City Roller Girls on their turf, and brought home their first win of the season.

“It feels good to be undefeated because we have all worked really hard and through teamwork and perseverance we are where we are today,” said Peanut ButtKickHer, #69. “We have pushed ourselves and each other to really be the best we can be.”

The Dames have came a long way in a short amount of time and they all say it’s thanks to teamwork.

“Teamwork, passion and pure love of the sport has driven us to grown and learn,” said St. Brawly Girl, #7. “Being undefeated is an amazing feeling and has provided us with the push to continue to be successful. It’s so good to be BADD!”

Summertime Bruise will be hosted at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center; doors open at 6 p.m. and the bout starts at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door, $5 for kids 6 to 12, and kids under 5 get in free. Any Boy Scout who comes to the bout in uniform will receive free admission.

Cash only at the door, but an ATM is on-site.

A portion of the proceeds from the bout will benefit Veterans Affairs.
