Miners beat Sliders 4-2 in 14 innings

Winning streak now at 14 games

From Staff Reports

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — The West Virginia Miners are finding all kinds of ways to win. They scored two unearned runs in the top of the 14th inning to beat Slippery Rock 4-2 and extend their winning streak to 10 games.

After Vince Bartolone and Kaeo Aliviado both walked with one out, Pat Kregeloh reached on a three-base error by Sliders catcher Mike Andries. Bartolone and Aliviado both scored — they were the first runs in the game since Slippery Rock tied it with a two-run sixth.

The Miners took a 1-0 lead in the first when Aliviado reached on an error and scored on Kregeloh’s double.

The lead went to 2-0 in the fifth when Evan Potter scored on a two-out single by Aliviado.

In the bottom of the sixth, Aaron Lindgren drove in Cooper Mickelson with a triple for the Sliders’ first run. They tied the game later in the inning after Lindgren scored when Connor McCallum hit into a double play.

Brandon Koch picked up the win for West Virginia (22-12). He worked 4 2-3 innings of shutout relief, striking out seven and walking none while allowing just two hits.

The Miners will start a two-game series today at Chillicothe (20-14). West Virginia leads the Paints by two games in the Prospect League East Division.
