LORAIN, OHIO —
The West Virginia Miners exploded for 11 runs including four runs in the third and fourth innings to roll past Lorain County Thursday night 11-3.
The Miner took full advantage of Ironmen starter Alex Dillon. Dillon gave up six walks in just three innings and combined with the poor defense behind him that yielded four errors, West Virginia touched him up for nine runs to put the game out of reach early.
Pat Kregeloh led the Miners at the plate with two hits including a two-run home run, while Kevin Johnstone surrendered just one run over six and two-thirds innings of work to get the win.
The win moves the Miners lead back to five games over second place Butler in the Eastern Division of the Prospect League standings.
West Virginia squares off again tonight with the Ironmen at 7:05 p.m. before returning home for a key two-game series with second place Butler on Saturday and Sunday.
