BUTLER, Pa. —
Cameron Balough smacked two doubles and scored three times, including the game-winning run, to lead the West Virginia Miners past the Butler BlueSox Monday.
The win gave the Miners a split of the two-game series and snaps Butler’s four-game win streak.
Leading 1-0, West Virginia pushed the lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning when Balough scored his second run of the game on a Nick Paxton groundout and a RBI double by Josh Galvan.
The Blue Sox responded with three runs in their half of the fourth on a RBI double by Matt Peters and two unearned runs that scored on a fielding error.
The Miners scored the go-ahead run in the eighth when Balough scored on a double play. Ryan Perez and Vince Bartolone combined to hold Butler scoreless the rest of the way to secure the Miners’ victory.
The Miners go into the all-star break with a two-game lead over the Chillicothe Paints.
Pitcher Jaesung Hwang, left fielder Kaeo Aliviado and infielder Pat Kregeloh stayed in Butler, where they will play in the Prospect League All-Star game Wednesday.
The rest of the team returned home but will leave for Chillicothe, where they will be joined by the all-stars Thursday morning for the start of a two-game series with the Paints.
