Beckley Area Derby Dames final home bout Saturday

Don’t miss your last chance to see live roller derby action as the Beckley Area Derby Dames host their final home bout of the season Saturday.

The Beckley Area Derby Dames will face off against the Greenbrier Roller Vixens at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center at 7 p.m.

“Expect to see the best two teams in the area bout it out,” team captain Cupcake Cadaver said. “This is the redemption bout for BADD!”

Not only do the Derby Dames plan on delivering some hard hits at high speeds, they will also be giving back to the community.

A percentage of the proceeds will benefit the Women’s Resource Center, which provides safety, emergency intervention, advocacy, prevention and educational services for victims and witnesses of domestic and/or sexual abuse.

“Roller derby is a new and exciting sport for Beckley,” Bodacious Baxter said. “It is showing what strong women that work hard can do and it’s also supporting a wonderful cause — the Women’s Resource Center.”

One of the derby girls in training or “fresh meat,” Megan Rock, said she loves being a part of a group that provides such great role models for girls. Malice in Rollerland, another member of the fresh meat, agreed that the sport is both empowering for the members of the team, as well as for the community.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the whistle blows at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $12 at the door for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12, and children 5 and under get in free. Cash only at the door, but an ATM is on site.
