A public celebration is scheduled for 5 p.m. today on the campus of Mountain State University at the John W. Eye Conference Center on South Kanawha Street. The party is in honor of the NAIA national runner-up basketball squad representing MSU.
While the hardware the Cougars brought back to West Virginia isn’t what any of us really wanted — especially what the team aspired to — they represented us like champions and they are champions in our book.
In the end, only one other NAIA men’s basketball team in America was better. Being runner-up is a wonderful achievement.
Kudos to coach Bob Bolen, his staff and the athletes involved with the Cougars’ hoops program. You represented us well on the national stage once again.
The community is proud of your accomplishments and looks forward to many more years of exciting MSU basketball.
Congratulations, well done.
