Thumbs up ... the 50th birthday for Theatre West Virginia. The southern West Virginia cultural staple will kick off its celebrations in April with a Birthday Bash fundraiser at Black Knight Country Club.

Thumbs up ... to statistics that show violent crime at West Virginia University dropped slightly between 2008 and 2009, while property crimes fell dramatically. The statistics show 73 violent crimes were reported last year, compared with 78 the year before and 79 in 2007.

Thumbs up ... to USDA Rural Development approval of a Community Facilities Grant in the amount of $27,000 for the Raleigh County Public Library for a new bookmobile.
