Thumbs up ... to Rainelle for continuing a 20-plus-year tradition of welcoming veterans making their annual Run For The Wall in Washington during Memorial Day weekend.



Thumbs up ... to a crew with the History Channel show “Modern Marvels” which has been in Morgantown to film a segment on the biometrics testing lab. The lab’s mission is to reduce the threat of criminal and terrorist activity by testing new technologies that confirm a person’s identity.



Thumbs up ... to Cody McVey, an Alderson native who signed with the Kingsmen, an award-winning southern gospel group. The 18-year-old McVey is no stranger to touring with a well-known gospel group. He was the featured soloist with the Monument Quartet on its Faith and Family Tour in 2007.



Thumbs up ... to Raleigh General Hospital and the RGH medical staff, which presented checks for $1,000 each to The Salvation Army and the American Red Cross to assist in flood relief efforts in Wyoming County.



Thumbs up ... to Everett Lilly of Clear Creek, presented with the Vandalia Award, West Virginia’s highest folklife honor.

Thumbs up ... to the 33rd annual Region 4 Rally of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International. Airstream owners can enjoy local tours of historic Lewisburg, the Cold War-era Bunker at The Greenbrier, the Federal Fish Hatchery in White Sulphur Springs, Monongahela National Forest and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory at Green Bank, Cass Scenic Railroad or whitewater rafting.



Thumbs up ... to Rotarians Scott and Cindi Fazio of Central Printing and Rotary president Pam Ford for presenting Hospice of Southern West Virginia with a check for $10,000 in memory of Robert “Bob” McClure. McClure joined Beckley Rotary Club in 1967 and was the 74th president of the organization in 1992-93. His Rotary accomplishments included being named Rotarian of the Year (1993-94) and a Paul Harris Fellow, preparing the club bulletin “The Tatler” for more than 25 years and co-chairing the Rotary Charity Golf Tournament for eight years.



Thumbs up ... to White Sulphur Elementary school fifth-graders for their citizenship project. The students purchased 25 American flags with the help of sponsors Alderman’s Pharmacy, Norma Feury Tax Service and Myron Vaughan, Vaughan’s Yesteryear’s Exxon, city workers, Mayor Debbie Fogus, G.W. Lewis and the parents.
