Almost since the day we learned of his surprising purchase of America’s Resort a little more than a year ago, Jim Justice has been promising an event to remember during the opening of The Casino Club at The Greenbrier.

He reaffirmed that commitment Monday when he announced an “initial” list of celebrities scheduled to be in White Sulphur Springs next Friday. It is a star-studded line-up from Hollywood, Broadway and the sports world.

Jennifer Garner, Ben Affleck, Raquel Welch, Jane Seymour, Jessica Simpson, Elliott Gould, Brooke Shields, Debbie Reynolds, Phyllis George, Ann Magnuson, Christine Ebersole and Carleton Varney. And don’t forget Tom Watson, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Shaquille O’Neal and Michael Buffer.

That’s just the first wave; we are sure there will be more to come for a red carpet evening that will also include an hour-long concert performed by Lionel Richie.

Justice promised it, we’re certain it will long be remembered as one of greatest moments in the history of the storied resort.

But the glitter and glitz from July 2 will still likely be shining when the PGA Tour comes to town a few weeks later for the inaugural edition of The Greenbrier Classic. It’s not just about a nationally televised FedEx Cup golf tournament either. Concerts on back-to-back evenings at a newly constructed amphitheater on the State Fairgrounds in Fairlea will feature Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts and Reba.

White Sulphur Springs and The Greenbrier have certainly never seen this kind of hustle and bustle.

Justice promised it. He’s spending tens of millions of his personal wealth not only to rejuvenate America’s Resort, but also to provide a substantial shot in the arm to the regional economy.

It seems like not a day goes by without news being generated from within the historic halls behind the now new white pillars.

Justice promised it and it is all about the stars. No, not the kind who walk the red carpet and bring the paparazzi, although they are a part of it.

It’s all about the gold standard of travel, the elite fifth star, the one that signifies the best of the best; one that The Greenbrier held for many years and let slip away several years ago.

Justice promised it and he seems bent on bringing it back, as quickly as possible.

The effort being made deserves all of our support.
