UNION — Buddy John Beans, 23 of Union, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the Groves Funeral Home Chapel in Union, with the Rev. Bob Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at the Ballard Cemetery near Union.

Friends may call at the Groves Funeral Home in Union from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday.

June E. Weaver Thomason Furrow

June E. Weaver Thomason Furrow, age 89, of Shady Spring, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 4, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital, following an extended illness.

Born March 9, 1923, in Pineville, W.Va., to the late William Andrew Weaver and Vida Hash Weaver.

Mrs. Furrow was a longtime employee with the Raleigh County Board of Education as a school cook. She also enjoyed gardening her flowers and cooking and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Thomason in 1963 and Estel Furrow in 2006; daughter, Andrea Sue Brakefield in 2007; sisters, Esta, Verla, Mamie, and Jorene; brothers, Delbert, Basil, Bob, Jim, and infant brother.

Those surviving include her children, Carla Keffer and husband Kenny of Shady Spring, Frances Ramsey and husband Tex of Oak Hill, and Linda Fox and husband Ernie of Calvin, W.Va.; step sons, David Furrow and wife Jean of Brooksville, Fla. and Charles Furrow and wife June of Henrico, Va.; grandchildren, Connie Rowe, Joy Honaker, Ken Keffer, Anthony Ramsey, Shawn Ramsey, Butch Fox, Jonathon Brakefield, Robert Brakefield, Christy Jones, Julie Mitchell, Dan Furrow, Ron Furrow, Mark Furrow, Michelle Furrow, and Monica Morris; 26 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Services for Mrs. Furrow will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the Rose and Quesenberry Shady Spring Chapel, with Pastor Phillip Farrington and Charles Furrow officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

Grandsons will serve as her pallbearers.

The visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Shady Spring Chapel.

J. C. Lambert

 MT. HOPE — J.C. Lambert, 78, of Mt. Hope, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 4, 2013. He was born April 12, 1934, in Roderfield, McDowell County, W.Va.

He was a military veteran and worked in the coal fields. J.C. was a member of Packs Branch Baptist Church. He loved being outdoors, loved dogs in general and beagles in particular. He was competitive, loved winning, especially at pitching horseshoes. He loved attending Church (after his 1982 Salvation) and will be dearly missed by his family, friends and Pastor from the “Amen” corner of the church. Jay loved the Lord, was active in soul-winning by passing out many Bible tracks, while traveling in Raleigh County and places beyond.

J.C. is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Iva Lambert; brothers, Paul Lambert of Colorado, twin brother, W.B. of Florida; sisters, Nina Ross of Ohio, Evelyn Perry and Garnet Shaw of Iaeger, W.Va., Phyllis Laflamme of Massachusetts; great-grandchild, Brent Anthony Magliano of Florida.

Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife Dolly Lambert of Mt. Hope; daughter, Sharon Magliano of Florida; sons, Michael Lambert of Colorado and Jeffrey Lambert of Maryland; sisters, Molly Dawson of Beckley, Charolett Murphy of Beckley, Maxine Bowles of Iager, and brother, Ray Lambert of Beckley; grandsons, Brandon and Brett Magliano of Florida; granddaughter, Amanda Conner of Florida; great-grandsons, Ethan Conner and Jackson Magliano of Florida.

Services will be held at 2 p.m.  Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Sam Vance officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Rosa JuAnn Campbell McKinney

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Rosa JuAnn Campbell McKinney, age 64, of Tuscaloosa, lost her long battle to cancer (multiple myeloma) on Sunday, March 3, 2013.

She was born January 12, 1949, at Boissevain, Tazewell County, Va. She was the daughter of the late Bernard Ralph Campbell and Lorene “Betty” Davidson Campbell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerald E. McKinney, son of the late Enoch and Helen McKinney; her sister-in-law, Juanita Nocida; and a niece, Donna Jo Campbell.

Rosa is survived by her companion, Matt Harrison Mitchell Jr.; her siblings, Bernard R. Campbell Jr. (Nancy) of Virginia Beach, Va., Hopkins Campbell (Kathy) of Beckley, Dorothy Roach (David) of Roanoke, Va., Betty Jo Miller (Tony) of Rock Hill, S.C., Randall Campbell (Cathy) of Corinne, Robert Campbell (Tina) of Corinne, and Della Campbell of Beckley; and numerous nieces and nephews. Other special people in her life are Josh Mitchell and his children, Jessie Brooke and Josh Jr., and Shelley Dolan.

Rosa was a 1966 graduate of Mullens High School and attended classes at Beckley College. She had a long and diverse career in business administration. She worked with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation in West Virginia. She was then employed as vice president of administration and assistant to the president of Fairchild International in Beckley. After that she received her real estate broker’s license and insurance broker’s license and sold real estate until she moved to Alabama. She owned and operated three retail clothing stores in Alabama. She was part owner of Tuscaloosa Physical Therapy Center, Inc., and part owner of Tom’s Cabinets and Woodworks. She taught medical transcription for 18 years and owned and operated Professional Office Services in Tuscaloosa for 25 years.

Family and friends are invited to attend burial rites at Resthaven Memorial Park in Princeton, W.Va. on Friday, March 8, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Roselawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing.

Pallbearers will be Rosa’s brothers, nephews, and Josh Mitchell.

Melvina Stanley Evans

OAK HILL — Melvina Stanley Evans, 95, of Oak Hill, died on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.

Born August 30, 1917, at Kayford Mountain, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James and Fairlena Holsten Stanley.

Mrs. Evans attended the Crossroads Apostolic Holiness Church, Bradley. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John William “Bill” Evans, and son-in-law, Denver Turner and as the last surviving sibling her brother, Herf Stanley and a sister, Priscilla Grant also preceded her.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Turner of Beckley; six grandchildren, John E. Turner, Tina M. Dyba, Denver W. Turner Jr., James L.Turner, Mary Arlan, and Michael L. Turner and seven great grandchildren.

Services will be Friday, March 8, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum No. 3 in Prosperity, with Pastor Ken Owens officiating. Burial will follow.

Mattie ‘Edna’ Pannell

Mattie “Edna” Pannell, 81, of Beckley, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital, following a long illness.

Emma Pedri              

AMIGO — Emma Pedri, 83, of Amigo, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 4, 2013. She was living at the Wyoming County Nursing Home, New Richmond, where she had been a resident for five years. Her loving brother, Adolph Pedri was with her at the time of her passing and visited her daily.

Emma was born on April 13, 1929, in Wyco, W.Va. In addition to her parents Emma was met at Heaven’s gate by her sister, Rena, brother-in-law, Cleo Wilcox, and sister-in-law, Peggy Pedri. Heaven’s gain is our loss. She will be greatly missed.

Ms. Pedri is survived by her brother, Adolph Pedri of Corinne; one niece, Gina Martine and her husband, Al of Daniels; two nephews, Mike and Donna Pedri of Cool Ridge; and Mark and Tammy Pedri of Barkers Ridge. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews.

Emma was a store clerk for Amigo’s Smokeless Coal Company and was a lifelong member of the St. John Catholic Church. She actively took part in doing God’s work. She was a wonderful and sweet woman. She spent her life taking care of others. At the nursing home she was always helping others. Emma always smiled and encouraged everyone she met. Her time was spent playing bingo, doing art work, and attending as many social events as she could. Also, she was loved by everyone she met.

A celebration of Emma’s life will be at noon, Friday, March 8, 2013, at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel with Father Jack Reich officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.

Clinton R. Pitzer

LONG BOTTOM, Ohio — Clinton R. Pitzer, 78, of Bashan Road, Long Bottom, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at the Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio, following a brief illness.

He was born on August 18, 1934, in Beckley, W.Va. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957to 1959. He retired after 32 years of service from Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood, W.Va., in 1995. He spent his retirement sawing on his mill and cutting firewood and spending time with his very special family and friends. 

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ester Louise Pitzer; three daughters and son-in-laws; Tammy (Ron) Timmons, Ashville, Ohio, Cindy (Jim) Chadwell, Long Bottom, Robyn (Jeff) Hawk, Long Bottom; a son, Clinton “Rocky” Pitzer Jr, and friend Rod White of Parkersburg, Ohio; seven grandchildren; Matt Timmons, Bryan (Patsy) Chadwell, Roger (Virginia) Chadwell, Jenifer (Andy) Whewell, Rebecca Chadwell, Kaitlyn Hawk, and Brad Hawk; five great grandchildren, Brooke Chadwell, Jordan Chadwell, Jenna Chadwell, Austin Chadwell, and William Whewell; a sister, Dicy (Billy) Tolbert of Millwood, W.Va., two nieces, Diane “Lynn” (Rand) Jackson, and Regina “Jody” (Greg) Holbert and two great nephews, Darren Jackson and Terry Holbert two great nieces; Cari Jackson and Annie Holbert and his dogs, Fred and Missy. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Etta Pitzer, and a sister, Flora Pitzer. 

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, at the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy, Ohio, with Pastor Wayne Dunlap officiating. Burial will follow in the Meigs Memory Gardens. Military Honors will be presented at the cemetery

Felicia Sturgill

On Sunday, March 3rd, 2013, our most loved, Felicia Louise Sturgill, passed from this life at her home in Flat Top. She was only 13 years of age.

Born on Feb. 4th, 2000, in Beckley, Felicia attended Pikeview Middle School.

She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Christina Sturgill of Beckley, her father, Edward J. Roberts of Beaver; her stepfather, James H. Lilly of Beckley; her grandmother, Anna Sturgill of Flat Top, her grandfather, Terry Meadows of Flat Top; her great grandmother, Ilene Miller of Flat Top and her aunt, Jessica Parson of Camp Creek; her brothers and sisters include, Jacob and Isaac Brown and Persephone Lilly, all of Beckley; a large extended family also survives in the surrounding area.    

On Friday, March 8th, at 1 p.m. there will be a “Service of Remembrance” at the Melton Mortuary Chapel, 1200 Harper Road, Beckley. Pastor Richard Chester will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the service hour. Felicia will be laid to rest in the Garden of the Angels at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity.

CRAIGSVILLE — Carmella Virginia Tharpe, 81, of Craigsville, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013.

Lorena Mae ‘Logan’ Wallace

Lorena Mae “Logan” Wallace, 92, of Odd, passed away March 1st, 2013.

She was born August 5, 1920, at Odd, the daughter of the late Grant and Claudia Logan.

Mrs. Wallace was a very beloved and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had always been a hard worker and loved people. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was known to her grandchildren as “Granny” and “G.G” to her great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry C. Wallace of 48 years; four brothers, Ernest Logan, Calvin Logan, Eldridge Logan, and Lloyd Logan; four sisters, Grace Vines, Lenora Walker, Ruth White, and Nora Jane Fink.

Those left to cherish her memory include her five children, Shirley Snuffer and husband, Ronald “Junk” Snuffer of Beckley, Norma Thompson and husband, Tommy of Mineral, Va., Linda Davis of Woodbridge, Va., Johnny Wallace of Odd, and Anthony “Tony” Wallace and wife, Doreen of Manassas, Va.; five grandchildren, Keith Thompson, Kenny Thompson, Regina May, Greg Davis, and Anthony Davis; seven great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Deloris Logan and Geraldine Logan; several nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Rev. Daniel Legg and Rev. Donnie Fink officiating. Following the services Mrs. Wallace will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Pallbearers will be Keith Thompson, Kenny Thompson, Greg Davis, Anthony Davis, Charles May, and Jeremy May.

Jarred Steven  Wellman

Jarred Steven Wellman, 22, of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 4, 2013.

Born February 16, 1991, he is the son of Steve and Amanda Wellman.

Jarred was an Eagle Scout and was a member of BSA Troop 103. Jarred loved being around people and spending time with his family. He was interested in vintage sports cars, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Woodrow Wilson graduating class of 2009. Jarred was employed as the assistant manager of Mountain Marketing in Eccles, for the last three years, and was a member of the Church of God Family Worship Center in Beckley, where he was active in the Launch Ministries.

Jarred is preceded in death by his infant brothers, Jordan Ross Wellman and Jacob Pearce Wellman.

Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, Steve and Amanda Wellman of Beckley; brothers, J.C. Wellman of Beckley and Joshua Wellman of Beckley; grandmother, Ellen Wellman of Charleston; grandparents, James and Frankie Walls of Beckley; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services for Jarred will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the Church of God Family Worship Center,  with Pastor Michael Patterson and Pastor Stacy Dingess officiating.  Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Hurst, Alex Hurst, Joshua Wellman, Taylor Hurst, J.C. Wellman and Dale Lezu.
