Richard Amel ‘Dick’ Clark

Richard Amel (Dick) Clark, 74, of Lehigh Acres, Florida and Jumping Branch celebrated life from January 24, 1939 through February 16, 2013.

Dick was born and raised in Miami, graduated from North Miami Senior High School and retired to Jumping Branch. Dick was one of four children born to the late Amel and Louise Clark.

He was the beloved husband of Lois Clark, celebrating 19 years of marriage.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Brooks Clark and Merle Blocker.

He is survived by his younger brother Robert Clark. He will forever be remembered in the hearts of his children, Deborah Guignet, Don Clark, Todd Clark and Diane Jay. He was proud to be “Papa” to his many grandchildren, and was deeply touched when his precious daughters became grandmothers.

He served in the U.S. Air Force Fire and Rescue from 1960-1964. He retired from the Miami-Dade County Fire Department after 33 years of dedicated service. He was deeply gratified when his sons Don and Todd Clark and son-in-law, James Jay also entered Fire Service. It seemed natural that during his career he earned the nickname “Hook”, a credit to his fishing skills and humorous narratives.

Dick was an active member of Stanton Memorial North Shore Baptist Church in Miami while raising his family. Recently Dick and Lois were worshippers at the Nimitz Missionary Baptist Church at Nimitz.

Dick was an ardent outdoorsman, who relished daring and adventure as a young man with the same passion he felt in retirement hand feeding his deer in West Virginia. Growing up in Miami he was drawn to the ocean where he spent many hours free diving and fishing. He learned the value of a good friend, a faithful dog, as well as the deep and abiding love of family. His love of creating and engineering swamp buggies, trekking through the Florida Everglades and hunting each season was highlighted with an annual camping trip, a special time of family renewal and revitalization. A lifetime supporter of the NRA, he fondly reminisced about events from his many outdoors trips over the miles and through the years. He had a special knack for simplifying the most daunting tasks and encouraging mutual creativity.

He touched the lives of those he met, but his enduring friendships were dearest to his heart. His passion for song, guitar, and self-taught piano playing enriched the time spent with his family. Dick felt immeasurable pleasure with his children’s love of the Lord and the warmth they created in their own homes. Dick will be remembered first and foremost by everyone for his trademark charm and sense of humor. This special touch unfailingly upheld and encouraged his children through the days till he departed for a reunion with His Lord and family.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Clark Family Cemetery on Ellison Ridge Road, Jumping Branch, with Pastor Don Hannah officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery.
