Martha P. Powers

STUARTS DRAFT, Va. — Martha P. Powers, 75, of Stuarts Draft, passed away  Monday, November 26, 2012, at the home of her son, John, in Stuarts Draft, following a short illness.

Born September 24, 1937, at Rainelle, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Ena Belle Jeffries Cade.

Martha had retired from an electronics and telephone manufacturing company, and she loved her cats.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard F. Powers Sr., a sister, Madeline McClure, and two brothers, Raymond Shortridge and Tommy Cade.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Southard (Milton) of Stanardsville, Va.; two sons,  Bernard Powers Jr. (Helen) of Stuarts Draft, and John Powers (Penny) of Stuarts Draft; five brothers, Robert Shortridge of Hico, W.Va., Jack Cade of Rupert, W.Va., Clarence Cade of Meadow Bluff, W.Va., James Cade of Covington, Va., and Richard Cade of Artie, W.Va.; three grandchildren: Tiffany Southard, Shawn and Courtney Powers; two step grandchildren: Tony and Michael Southard; three step great-grandchildren: Michelle, Savannah, and Jonathan Southard, and one step great-great-grandchild: Seth Nelsen.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastor Donald Beam officiating. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday evening, November 30, 2012 at the funeral home.

Patrick ‘Butch’ Preece

SPOKANE, Wash. — Patrick “Butch” Preece, 48, of Spokane, formerly of Verdunville,  passed away on Monday, November 26, 2012.

A special service to celebrate Butch’s life will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2012  beginning at 6 p.m. at the Maryetta United Baptist Church, Verdunville, with Rev. Barney Goins officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Honaker Funeral Home to defray final funeral expenses.
