Josiah Lee Nathaniel Beane, 2, son of J.D. and Amanda Mustell Beane of Sissonville, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013.
Services to celebrate the life of Josiah will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Long and Fisher Funeral Home in Sissonville with Pastor Todd King officiating. Interment will follow at Sissonville Memorial Gardens, Sissonville. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Floyd ‘Wayne’ Bennett
MADAMS CREEK — Floyd (Wayne) Bennett, 73, of Madams Creek, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at his home following a long illness.
Born January 22, 1940, at Summers County, he was a son of the late Augustus B. and Ivous A. Meadows Bennett.
Wayne was a truck driver having retired from Lane Trucking and a lifelong resident of Summers County. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed attending church while his health permitted. Wayne was an avid outdoorsman; he loved hunting, fishing and boating.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lee Bennett, and one nephew, Roger Lee Bennett.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 55 years, Yonnie Lee Meadows Bennett at home; two daughters, Sue Ballard and husband Mike of Pipestem and Kim Downard and husband Jeremy of Madams Creek; four grandchildren, Adam Ballard and wife Nicole of Lerona, Kevin Ballard of Pipestem and Colleen and Gwen Downard of Madams Creek; one stepgranddaughter, Sara Downard of Princeton; four great-grandchildren, Christian, Kailey, Karsyn and Addalee Ballard; one brother, Jackie B. Bennett and wife Martha of Madams Creek; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be 12 noon Saturday, November 23, 2013, with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral parlors.
Pallbearers will be Mason Jones, Norman Farley Jr., Ralph Hartwell, Ray Keaton, Eddie Wills and Steve Mounts.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Wills, Billy Joe Young and James Adkins.

MCCONNELL — Marvin Ray Conner, 82, of McConnell, passed away Nov. 19, 2013.
Both his visitation and funeral are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23, at the McConnell Tabernacle in McConnell, with the Rev. Orville Syner and Pastor Keith McClung officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., with funeral services immediately following at 1 p.m. Interment with military rites will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Pecks Mill.

Gladys M. Erskine Garner
RONCEVERTE — Gladys M. Erskine Garner, 88, of Ronceverte, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.
Born Oct. 13, 1925, at Caldwell, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Arthur Clyde Jackson Sr. and Iris Elizabeth Surgeon Jackson.
Gladys attended Ronceverte Baptist Church, was a member of the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center Senior Friends and was a member of Post No. 4940 Women’s Auxiliary of the VFW. She was a retired room attendant with over 30 years of service with The Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gene Patrick; three sisters, Lelia Woods, Jackie Ayers and Christina Jackson; and five brothers, James, Arthur Jr., Bill, Charles and John Wallace Jackson.
She is survived by her husband, Roy Garner; children, Mae Beavers of Fairlea, Jerry Patrick of Caldwell, John Erskine of Lewisburg, Arthur Erskine and wife, Karen, of Ronceverte, Mitch Patrick and wife, Janice, of Akron, Ohio, and Mary Dunleavy and husband, Tom, of Roanoke, Va. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Karen Patrick of Canton, Ohio; a stepson, Bill Garner of Ronceverte; 15 grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg, with the Rev. Andy Howdock officiating, along with the Choir from the First Baptist Church of White Sulphur Springs. Burial will follow in the Salem Presbyterian Church Cemetery at Organ Cave.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at the funeral home in Lewisburg.

Wayne Steve Jones, 82, of Beckley, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, November 20, 2013.
Born July 3, 1931, in Adkins, Va., he was the son of the late James Gilbert and Mattie Lee Armstrong Jones. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Kitty Joann Jones; brothers, James “Bunk” Jones, Lewis Jones; sisters, Mary Blevins and Patricia Jones.
Wayne was a retired coal miner having retired from Narco. He was a Baptist and a member of the UMWA. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving on the U.S.S. Howard D. Crow.
Survivors include his stepdaughter, Carol Meadows and husband Kevin of Beckley, grandchildren, Justin Flint of Beckley, Stephanie Boggs and husband Michael of Union, WV; great-grandchildren, Kayla Flint of Beckley, Michael David Boggs and Tori Joann Boggs of Union, WV; sisters, Charlene Sizemore of Beckley, Shirley Belcher of Welch, WV; brothers, Robert Jones and wife Brenda of Oak Hill, WV, and Donald Jones and wife Sue of Sarasota, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Pastor Kim Kirby officiating. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.

Peggy Ann Vickers McCallister
ALDERSON — Peggy Ann Vickers McCallister, 70, of Alderson, W.Va., passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at her home in Alderson, following a short illness.
Born July 8, 1943, in Summersville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Reva Kathryn Bell Vickers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Glenn “TC” McCallister, and a sister, Patricia Izora Vickers Boggess.
Mrs. McCallister grew up in Weston, W.Va., and attended Weston High School. She worked as a sectional supervisor at the Pence Springs Manufacturing Company, Pence Springs, W.Va., and the Kellwood Company, Maxwelton, W.Va., for many years. She was also a former employee of Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, W.Va., and was a former cook and bartender at several local taverns over the years. Mrs. McCallister was of the Presbyterian faith and she loved to cook.
Survivors include a son, Richard Lee Martin Jr. of Alderson; a daughter, Deborah Lee Martin and her husband, Ken Kincaid, of Mooresville, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Cara Martin Evans and her husband, Roger, of Oak Hill, W.Va., and Holly McCallister of Charleston, W.Va.; two brothers, Jim Vickers of Weston, W.Va., and Michael Vickers of Washington, D.C.; a granddaughter, Erica McMillion of White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.; one great-grandson, Caleb McMillion of White Sulphur Springs; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In honor of Mrs. McCallister’s wishes, following cremation, memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, with the Rev. David ‘Junior’ McKinney
David “Junior” McKinney, age 78, of Stephenson, W.Va., went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley. Those of us left behind who are saved can rejoice in the fact that we will meet him again one day in Heaven.
Born on October 5, 1935, at Basin, W.Va., he was the son of the late David Mitchell McKinney and Martha Maxine Lusk McKinney. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Louise McKinney, Pauline Stewart, Ollie Poe; by father-in-law Rev. Dewey H. Acord, and brothers-in-law, Neeley Stewart, Charles Stewart, Jesse Poe, Henry Dills and Billy R. Smith.
David is survived by his wife of 36 years, Wanda Acord McKinney; a daughter Marla Lewis of Stephenson; three sons, Allen McKinney and his wife Vickie of Tobaccoville, N.C., Benny McKinney and his wife Patti of Maben, W.Va., and Anthony McKinney of Princewick, W.Va.; a friend whom he loved like a son, James “Mike” Reed of Stephenson. Seven sisters, Meldie Whitt and her husband Berman, Mabel Wilson and her husband Glen, Cora Stewart, Dorothy Adkins and her husband George, Nina Clay and her husband Dallas, Charlotte McKinney and her husband Danny and Evelyn “Sally” Hill and her husband K.D.; three brothers, James W. McKinney and his wife Kitty, Elbert R. McKinney and J. Wesley McKinney; five granddaughters, Michelle Moorefield and her husband Dusty, Heather Linville, Tiffany Lynch and her husband Scott, Breonna McKinney and Sheri McKinney; seven grandsons, Shawn Linville, Thomas A. McKinney, Christopher McKinney, Ronnie Dean Ransom, Leonard “Ray” McKinney, Benny “Mitchel” McKinney and Alexander “Alex” McKinney; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
David was of the Baptist faith and firmly believed in Jesus Christ. He enjoyed fox and raccoon hunting and raising and trading dogs and horses. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA, last working for the Slab Fork Coal Company. David loved his family and friends and loved spending time with them, who in turn loved and respected him.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Sunday, November 24, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Ardeth Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at the Acord Cemetery at Acord Mountain.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time on Sunday.

RAINELLE — Evelyn Staley Ocheltree, 83, of Rainelle, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013, in the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center at Fairlea.
Born November 21, 1929, in Richmond, Va., she was the daughter of the late Willard and Glady Gent Staley.
Evelyn worked for the Western Greenbrier National Bank and Paul Boggs Auto. She was a lifelong member of the Rainelle United Methodist Church. Evelyn loved to bake cookies and rolls. She was willing to help various civic groups in any way she could and loved to go out to eat with her friends.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband Tom Ocheltree; her brother James Staley and her twin Ernestine Hoblitzell.
Survivors include her loving daughter Nancy Salter and husband Bill of Rainelle; her loving grandson Kenny Salter and wife Meghan of Huntington, all whom she was proud of and loved so much; her sister Virginia “Kitty” Lind (Raymond) Jackson of Richwood; her sister-in-law and best friend Mae Staley of Rainelle; two nephews Joe Ocheltree (Janice) of Fredericksburg, Va., and Tom Gilmer of Lebanon, Va., and five nieces Karen Veronneau (Gary) of Rainelle, Lois Hoblitzell (Ellis Vest) of Beckley, Darla Williams of Richwood, Pam Scott (Mike) of Kinston, North Carolina, and Marcie Gilmer of Bluefield, Virginia.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, November 23, in the Rainelle United Methodist Church with Pastor Sam Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.

Genna Rayne Peaytt, 19-day-old infant daughter of David and Jennifer Peaytt of Horse Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
She was preceded in death by a grandmother, Sandra Hill, great-grandmothers, Melba Meadows and Loraine Quarles, great-grandfathers, Charles Quarles, Oatie Meadows and Ernest Peaytt.
She is survived by parents, David and Jennifer Peaytt; a brother, Hunter David Peaytt at home; grandmother, Anita (John) Price, grandfather, James (Brownie) Meadows and Ernie Peaytt; great-grandmother, Martha Webb; a number of aunts and uncles as well as cousins.
For the short time she was with us she filled our hearts with a world of laughter and love; she fought a hard battle, now it is time for her to breathe and rest easy.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Nov. 24, 2013, in the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with Pastor Rodney Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas.

Taken from the world far too soon from an unexpected illness was devoted wife, mother, sister and friend, Kathy Carolene Royster.
On November 18, 2013, Kathy stepped away from this life at the age of 56. She leaves behind a devoted husband, Bob Royster of Lanark, W.Va., and a loving daughter, Christina Royster of San Diego, Calif.
Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Wintford Shrewsberry of Ghent, W.Va.
She leaves behind her mother, Molly Shrewsberry of Ghent, W.Va.; brother, Harold Shrewsberry and wife, Kwang, of Fairfax, Va.; sister, Trilla Wills of Ghent; brother, Warren Shrewsberry and wife, Shirley, (deceased) of Ghent; brother, Randy Shrewsberry and wife Vicki of Josephine, W.Va.; and sister, Stacy Holt and husband Gary of Flat Top, W.Va.
Kathy also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and other family members. She will be missed by family, many friends, acquaintances and members of the community that she served through Wills-Royster Bookkeeping for well over 20 years.
We will not say goodbye to you, dear Kathy, but until we meet again. We will remember your kindness and generosity and will hold you forever in our hearts.

Phillip B. Shrewsbury
MATOAKA — Phillip B. Shrewsbury, 72, of Matoaka, formerly of Covel, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, from an extended illness.
Born on June 29, 1941, at Micajah Ridge in Wyoming County, he was the son of the late Dwight Alden Shrewsbury and Lola White Shrewsbury.
Phillip was a member of the Rock Church in King, N.C., and the Wesleyan Church in Mullens, W.Va. He was a disabled coal miner and member of UMWA, last working at Kitchekan Fuel Corporation. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved hunting, fishing and camping at Smith Mountain Lake.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn Alden Shrewsbury, and one daughter-in-law, Joan Shrewsbury, whom he loved as a daughter.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 54 years, Shirley Vickers Shrewsbury; two sons, Ricky Lee Shrewsbury and wife Gayle of Moneta, Va., and Scotty Shrewsbury and wife Rhesa of Princeton; one daughter, Tina Jewell Fox and husband Ronald of Princeton; one sister, Freida Lusk and husband Roger “Mouse” of Princeton; seven grandchildren, Miranda Jewell Vanderhans and husband Chris of Shady Spring, W.Va., Brittany Jewell Miller and husband Josh of Shady Spring, Michael Shrewsbury and wife Dayna of El Paso, Texas, Johnny Shrewsbury of El Paso, Marcus Fox of Charleston, W.Va., Nicholas and Savannah Shrewsbury of Princeton; two great-grandsons, Joshua and Jeremiah Vanderhans of Shady Spring; son-in-law, Donnie Jewell; “adopted son,” Calvin Smith; and very special friends, Sammy Shrewsbury and Rick and Sue Jenkins. Phillip had a large extended family whom he loved and many, many friends who will really miss him.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013, at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. Roger Lusk officiating. Interment will follow at Glenn Alden Shrewsbury Cemetery, Route 1, Matoaka.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Shrewsbury, Wayne Shrewsbury, Hopie Shrewsbury, Ace Shrewsbury, Milton Ford, Sydney White and Randy White.
