Harold L. Bragg

HINTON — Harold L. Bragg, 81, of 215 7th Ave., Hinton, died at 10:02 p.m. Saturday evening, February 9, 2013, in Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, following a long illness. He was a resident of Pinelodge Nursing Home the last two years.

Born January 5, 1932, at Hix, he was the son of the late John S. and Dixie Clementine Jones Bragg.

Harold worked as a farmer and timberman and was an employee of the West Virginia State Park system and the Department of Highways. He was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church at Hix and attended Ramp Holiness Church at Ramp and First Christian Church in Hinton as long as his health permitted. Harold enjoyed gardening, fishing, knife collecting, hunting and attending shooting matches. He was a lifelong resident of Summers County. He never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Clay Bragg; one son, Thomas Albert Bragg; granddaughter, Margaret Bragg; two twin great-grandsons, Eldridge Ray Bragg II and Brentley Gauge Bragg. Brothers, Ermon, Calvin, Carlos and James Bragg. Sisters, Eliza, Victoria, Nellie, Nannie Ann and Virginia.

Survivors include two sons, Harold L. Bragg Jr. and wife Dagmar of Athens, TN, and Eldridge Ray Bragg and wife Eva of Lockbridge; one daughter, Velda McKinney and husband Roger of Crab Orchard; one brother, Howard Bragg; nine grandsons, Timothy Walt Bragg, Harold L. Bragg III, Roger Dale Fleshman, John Clay Bragg, Kenneth H. Fleshman, Eldridge Ray Bragg Jr., Joshua T. Bragg, Jeremy Lee Bragg and Kenneth Wesley Garrett; two granddaughters, Trina Carlene Carr and Sarah Jean Bragg; six great-grandchildren, Paul J. Tate III, Jade Elton Tate, Frank Lee Bragg, Seth Elton Tate, Brianna June Bragg and Paula Jean Carr.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, in Hinton, with Minister Gary Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Upland Cemetery near Hinton.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.

Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Ronald Lee Brown Sr.

HINTON — Ronald Lee Brown Sr., 59, of Hinton, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2013.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, with Pastor Bobby Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the Clayton Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until time of services Wednesday at the funeral parlors.

Garnet Rose Coffman

PLEASANT HILLS — Garnet Rose Coffman, 81, of Pleasant Hills, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 9, 2013. She was a loving, devoted and selfless wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Born in Crab Orchard, Garnet was the daughter of the late Luther Ellis and Minnie Snuffer Tolbert.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Lucy Loving and Ola Calhoun, and brothers, Lloyd, Lewis and Richard Tolbert.

Garnet was a faithful lifetime member of the Oak Grove Christian Church. She worked along her husband’s side in Coffman Plants from 1971-1996. She loved assisting the customers.

Garnet is survived by her husband of 55 years, William Patrick Coffman; her only child, a daughter Kathy Thompson and husband Tom of Beckley; grandchildren, Missy Via and husband Daniel, Krystle Grimes and husband Duane and T.J. Thompson, all of Beckley, and great-grandchildren, Dylan Via, Kayleigh Grimes and Emma Via due to arrive in June also of Beckley.

She is also survived by two brothers, Bill Tolbert and his wife Dicy of Millwood, and John Earl Tolbert and wife Lorine of Lewisburg; special niece, Jane Painter, and nephew Cecil Loving and a host of more nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly; special cousins whom she thought of as sisters, Janet Lyons and Marion Tolbert.

We the family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers and friends who were so faithful, Marita, Bobbi and Becky.

A celebration of Garnet’s life will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at Oak Grove Christian Church, with Kelly Gowen and Ken Hawes officiating. Friends may call on the family Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Calfee Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Christian Church Cemetery immediately following the funeral.

Pallbearers will be T.J. Thompson, Daniel Via, Duane Grimes, Cecil Loving, Leslie Tolbert, Doug Tolbert, Frank Holt and Dave Calhoun.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Oak Grove Christian Church, 261 Oak Grove Road, Beckley, WV 25801.

OCEANA — Tina Marie Blankenship Toler Fox, 45, of Oceana, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2013.

Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Raymond Cook Cemetery, Lynco. Friends may gather with the family from 10 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.

SUMMERSVILLE — Velmer Lewis “Joe” Hughes Sr., 69, of Summersville died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013.

Ronald Miller

Ronald Miller, 64, of Drews Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 10, 2013, at the Cornerstone Hospital, Huntington, W.Va.

He was born September 15, 1948, a son of Byrd Miller and the late Opal Vealey Miller.

He was a graduate of Marsh Fork High School in 1967. He was a retired coal miner and member of the UMWA. He was a Christian and member of the Delbert Freewill Baptist Church, Naoma.

He enjoyed attending car shows and collecting antique cars.

In addition to his mother Opal, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Strawder Miller, and a stepdaughter, Vicky Rhodes.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Miller; his father, Byrd Miller of Drews Creek; children, Paul Miller and wife, Michelle and Jason Miller, all of Beckley, Kevin Rhodes and wife Peggy of Medina, OH, Clifton Rhodes of Brunswick, OH, Diane Webb and husband Robert of Cranberry, WV, Victor Rhodes and wife Christine of Cleveland, OH; Lisa and husband Rob, Stephanie and husband Joe, Kim and husband Mark, and Renee; a brother, Wayne Miller and wife Carolyn of Dry Creek, WV; a sister, Byrdena Sheperd and husband Matthew of Clemons, NC; uncle Clinton and aunt Janet Vealey, uncle David Keith Vealey and aunt Patricia Vealey, uncle Denny Howell and aunt Erna; very special friends, Virginia Bonds and Larry Brown, Jackie Miller, Joey Wills; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, in the Delbert Freewill Baptist Church, Naoma, with Pastor Benny Turner and the Revs. Danny Gilfilen and David Cook officiating. Singer will be Ann Shelton. Burial will follow in the Vealey Cemetery, Naoma.

Friends may call two hours prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

CORINNE — Helen Carolyn Redden Pack, 75, of Corinne, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013.

John Raymond Plummer

SUMMERSVILLE — John Raymond Plummer, 55, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2013.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the New Beginnings Worship Center at Summersville, with Pastor Joey Sheppard officiating. Burial with military honors will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery at Dunbar. Friends may call one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

Gregory Kent Rose

Gregory Kent “Gregg” Rose, age 59, of Daniels, WV, passed away at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley following a short illness.

Born on June 11, 1953, he was the son of Howard Rose of Beaver and the late Dolly Zimmerman Rose.

Mr. Rose was a master control operator for WSWP TV. He had made his home at Daniels for the past 27 years. Mr. Rose enjoyed watching sports and living life. He was a U.S. Army Veteran.

Survivors include his wife Connie Benfield Rose; a son, Christopher Rose and his girlfriend Savannah Lively of Shady Spring.

A stepson, Richard Brogan of Cool Ridge, two brothers, Jeff Rose of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Tracy Rose and his wife Angela of North Carolina.

Grandchildren, Elija Lively, and Bentley Rose. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted to Celebrate The Life Of Gregory Kent Rose on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at 6 p.m. at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel with Rev. Burl Richard Smith

HILLTOP — Burl Richard Smith, 65, of Hilltop, went home to the Lord Monday, February 11, 2013, at Plateau Medical Center, after a brave fight with lung cancer.

Born April 20, 1947, at Hilltop, son of the late Bubbie Erskin Smith and Jessie Ethel (Grant) Smith.

Burl served his country during the Viet Nam War. When he came home he held a lot of different jobs but his last job of 19 years was at Plateau Medical Center, where he worked in the Maintenance Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bubbie and Jessie Smith, his sister Lee Smith, his first wife Donna Alice Smith in 2001, and his daughter Ann Smith in 2010.

He is survived by his second wife Brenda Sue Smith of Hilltop; his daughter Suzette Smith Wingrove and her husband Howard Wingrove of Mt. Hope; his two stepdaughters Debra Wade of Arkansas and Crystal Tomlin of Arkansas, and his three grandchildren Richard Wingrove of Mt. Hope, Sarah Wingrove of Mt. Hope, and Matthew Harvey of Nitro. He also leaves behind many friends and loved ones. A few of his closest friends whom he considered family were Betty Arcudia, Fred Cody, and Tommy Calvert.

His remains rest at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1435 E. Main Street, Oak Hill, where the funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, with Rev. Eric Smith officiating, and where the family will receive friends from 12 noon until time of the service. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park with military rites conducted by Oak Hill V.F.W. Post 3110.

He will rest in Heaven with his loved ones and God. He was a good man who will truly be missed.

OAK HILL — Richard Dwayne Stevens, 53, of Oak Hill, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013.

Mary Lee Thomas

1926-2013

Mary Lee Thomas, 86, of Coal City, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, with family by her side.

Miss Thomas was born April 15, 1926, in Winding Gulf, W.Va., to the late Floyd Leonard (Slim) Thomas Sr. and Elsie Lee Ailstock Thomas.

Miss Thomas was a graduate of Collins High School class of 1944 in Epperly Hill, W.Va. She continued her education at West Virginia Business College in Bluefield, W.Va. After graduation, she worked for the Navy Department for two years in Washington, D.C., before returning to West Virginia to work 21 years as Postmaster for the Winding Gulf Post Office in Winding Gulf, W.Va. Miss Thomas completed her government career serving nine years as Postmaster at the Beaver Post Office in Beaver, W.Va.

Mary Lee enjoyed her retirement years by traveling with family, playing cards and games with family, cooking for family, and tutoring nieces and nephews. She loved and treasured her family. She was a loving sister, aunt, and cherished friend.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Floyd L. Thomas Jr.  and wife Margie, Jerry V. Thomas and wife Betty; sisters, Ruth Moreland and husband Lewis, Helen Ritter and husband Roy.

Those left to cherish her memory include brothers: Johnny R. Thomas and wife Wanda, Jack C. Thomas and wife Rosemary, both of Coal City, W.Va.; Bobby C. (Wheel) Thomas and wife Barbara of Oak Hill, W.Va.; Jimmy P. Thomas and wife Connie of Oakhurst, California; sister Betty Thomas of Coal City and 21 nieces and nephews, their spouses, and many grandnieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 14, 2013, from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the funeral service beginning at 1 p.m., with Pastor David Rumberg officiating. Burial will follow at Highlawn Memorial Cemetery in Oak Hill, W.Va.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley WV 25801.

Jacquetta Stover Toney

PETERSTOWN — Jacquetta Stover Toney, age 83, of Peterstown, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013, at Heritage Hall, Blacksburg, Va.

Born November 21, 1929, at Dorothy, Raleigh County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Rulie and Leva Rickman Stover.

Jacquetta attended the IPCC at Lindside, W.Va.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Leslie Hundley; a brother, Leon Stover; one sister, Burma Wills; a grandson, Leslie A. Hundley Jr.; and twin brother and sister, Bobby and Betty Stover.

Survivors include her loving husband, Lacy Hale Toney; one son, Samuel “Skip” Hundley of Lindside; three daughters, Shela Hundley of Rock Camp, Stormy Harvey and Lucy Comer, both of Peterstown; two brothers, Rulie Stover Jr. and wife Karen of South Carolina and Okie Pettrey and wife Thelma of Colcord; two sisters, Doretta Berkesch of Parma, OH, and Sandra Jackson and husband Lloyd of Peterstown; a brother-in-law, Richard Wills of Beckley; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown.
