Bertha Lucille Fox
QUINWOOD — Bertha Lucille Fox, 91, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Heartland of Rainelle.
She was born July 9, 1921, at Greenwood Mountain, in Summers County, and moved to Quinwood when she was three months old. Lucille was the daughter of the late John Weaver and Goldie Faye Boone Pomeroy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H. Albert Fox Sr. who passed away in June of 1985; two sons, Howard A. Fox Jr. in November of 2011, and her youngest son, Charles Eugene Fox in April of 2006.
She was the last charter member of the First Baptist Church of Quinwood, having begun attending church as a small child in the Chapel car, established by Rev. and Mrs. Newton. She lived her entire life in Quinwood and always had special memories to relate about her life there.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Perdue of Tampa, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Peggy Fox of Quinwood; five grandchildren, Tracy Giovo of Tampa, Fla., Jim Fox of Quinwood, Steven Fox and wife, Jessica of Quinwood, Heather Dameron of North Carolina and Amber Stevens of Virginia, and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at The First Baptist Church of Quinwood, with Pastor Chad Rodes officiating. Burial will follow in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening, Jan. 24, 2013, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Doris Elaine Garten
HINTON — Doris Elaine Garten, 85, Hinton, died Friday, January 18, 2013, at CAMC Memorial Division in Charleston, following a short illness.
Born August 9, 1927, in Bluefield, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Violet Morris Bradley.
Ms. Garten was a 1944 graduate of Beaver High School in Bluefield and a graduate of Concord College in Athens. She was a retired school teacher for the Summers County Board of Education having taught for 34 years. She was also the high school girls’ basketball coach at Hinton High School for 30 years.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hinton. After retirement, she and her late husband, Bill spent many wonderful years golfing almost daily at Willowwood Country Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Garten. Also preceded by a brother, Lawrence “Burr Head” Bradley.
Survivors include a son, William L. Garten Jr. & wife Luci of Nashville, TN. One daughter, Sally Garten Willey & husband Steve of Hinton. One granddaughter, Lacy Garten. A nephew, Larry Bradley of Hinton and a niece, Kay Dudley of Bluefield, VA.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 27, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church in Hinton, with Rev. Barbara Romfo officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Garten Scholarship Fund, C/O City National Bank, Hinton, WV.
