Jimmy Adkins

KEYROCK — Jimmy Adkins, 73, of Keyrock, passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2012.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Privett Family Cemetery, Keyrock.

MATOAKA — Jimmy Bennett, 76, of Matoaka, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012.

Dennis Wayne ‘DC’ Cella

Dennis Wayne “DC” Cella, 53, of Sophia passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2012.

Born August 4, 1959, at Akron, Ohio, to the late Donald and Helen Franklin Cella.

“DC” loved watching NASCAR and FOOTBALL and loved animals. He was a graduate of Independence High School, and was of the Christian Faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister that passed away at birth, Donna Marie Cella.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Kim Cella Davis and husband, K.C., of Winfield, WV; two grandchildren, Kaiden and Cruz Davis of Winfield, WV; two brothers, Donald Joe Cella and wife, Rene, of Sophia and Michael George Cella of Beckley; two aunts, Frances Harbert of Cross Lanes, WV, and Mary Lou Franklin Carr of Akron, OH; a niece, Wendy Atterson of Beckley; nephew, Gary Ray Cella of Sophia; caretaker and good friend, Steven Hull; and several cousins, extended family and a host of friends.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2012, at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Sophia, with Rev. Kenny Lambert officiating. Following the services “DC” will be laid to rest at the McKinney Cemetery, Tams Mtn., WV. Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers.

Friends may gather with the family from 12 p.m. until time of the service Monday at the funeral home.

Martha June Collier

SOUTH CHARLESTON — Martha June Collier, 78, a resident of South Charleston for over 50 years, died Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at home after a long illness.

She was a graduate of Pax High School where she was valedictorian and a graduate of WV State College. Martha was a 30-year member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and was a member of the Pax Church of God, Pax, WV. She was a retired Kanawha County School teacher with 30 years of service having served 28 years at Tyler Elementary School. Martha enjoyed her grandchildren, traveling and helping others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Marie Billups; brother, Keith Phillips.

Surviving, son, Steven N. Collier of South Charleston; daughter, Debra J. Bertus of Parkersburg, WV; sisters, Faye Tyree of Prosperity, WV, Linda Robertson of Stone Mt., GA; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston, with Pastor Barbara Dunbar officiating. Entombment will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the mortuary.

Freda Marie Garten

MORGANTOWN — Freda Marie Garten,  91, of Morgantown, formerly of Alderson, WV, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Mapleshire Rehab. Center, Morgantown, WV.

She was born September 3, 1921, in Stimback, Fayette County, WV, the daughter of the late Harry M. “Hal” and Lizzie White Goodwin.

Freda was a correctional officer for the Federal Bureau of Prisons for Women, in Alderson, WV, where she retired after 16 years of service.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Elmer “Scootie” Garten, and her four siblings.

She is survived by her daughter Anita D. Garten of Morgantown, WV. Freda will be sadly missed by her daughter and her many nephews and nieces and friends.

Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2012, at Wallace Memorial Mausoleum Chapel at Clintonville, with her nephew Rev. Buck Goodwin officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum.

Joseph Kent Keeney

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Joseph Kent Keeney, 28, of Tallahassee, Florida, formerly of Summersville, WV, passed away suddenly on November 21, 2012.

He was the son of Vicki Keeney and fiance Stuart Korte of Tallahassee, Fla., and Mike and BJ Keeney of Corliss.

Joseph was a 2002 graduate of Nicholas County High School and was an accomplished athlete. He attended Glenville State College where he majored in business and participated in football.

Although he spent time in Florida, his home was in West Virginia. He was an avid Mountaineer fan. He was a member of Minnie Belle Baptist Church in Corliss and worked construction.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Kent and Nancy Morgan of Alderson.

Others left to cherish his memory are brothers, Austin and Kyle Keeney of Corliss, grandparents, Billy and Freda Keeney of Corliss, Aunts and Uncles, Becky (Steve) Keadle of Alderson, Steve (Annie) Keeney, Dan Keeney, Tim (Terri) Keeney, Jennifer (Jim) Drennen all of Corliss, and many cousins and friends whom he loved dearly.

Friends and family may call Sunday, November 25, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Minnie Belle Baptist Church, Corliss, and one hour before the service at the church on Monday.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 26, 2012, 11 a.m. at the Minnie Belle Baptist Church, Corliss, with speaker Rebecca Keadle, his aunt, officiating. Burial will follow in the Shawver Cemetery at Corliss. Family will serve as pallbearers.

LOGAN — Melissa Lester, 47, of Logan, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012.

Margaret Ann Richards

Margaret Ann Richards, 67, of Glen White went home to be with the Lord on November 22, 2012, following a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Born December 12, 1944, in Hotchkiss, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Etter Tedder Acord.

Margaret was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County. She was employed as a nursing assistant for 30 years at the VA medical center in Beckley where she retired. Margaret loved being outdoors, and ginsenging. Margaret was a born again Christian, and was a member of the Glen White Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her youngest son Brian Adrian Richards.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 49 years Jack “Johnny” Richards, her son Eric Lee Richards of Jacksonville, Florida, her granddaughter Samantha Richards, and her great-grandson Brian Russell Hood. Five Brothers and Four sisters including Janit Hylton, Anna Rae Gluszko, and Fredrick Acord who were her caregivers for the last eight months of her life, whom she loved very much. A special friend Faye Fraley of Hotchkiss, and a host of nieces and nephews and dearly loved  friends.

A service celebrating Margaret’s life will be held Monday, November 26, 2012, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Parent officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Beckley. Pallbearers will be Michael Acord, Roman Gluszko, Donny Wiley, Jimmy Fraley, George Wiley, and Joe Stone.

Friends may gather with the family from noon until service time Monday at the funeral home.

Shirley Ann Robertson

PETERSTOWN — Shirley Ann Robertson, age 76, of Peterstown, WV, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2012, at Princeton Community Hospital, Princeton, WV.

Born April 29, 1936, at Peterstown, WV, she was the daughter of the late Emmett William and Elsie R. Chisenhall Wilson.

Shirley was a member of the Seneca Trail Church of Christ. She had retired from the Monroe County Board of Education as a Cook mainly at Peterstown Elementary School.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Kenneth R. “Bucky” Robertson and one son, Raymond “Randy” Robertson.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ann Booth and husband Chris of Peterstown, WV, one sister, Eloise Baumgardner of Vinton, VA, three grandchildren, Adam Mann of Peterstown, WV, Kayla Mann Brown and husband Anthony of Princeton, WV, and Andrea Robertson.

Graveside Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2012, at the McDonald-Wilson Cemetery, Green Valley Road, Peterstown, WV, with Minister Henry Conley officiating. Those wishing to attend the services are asked to meet at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown, WV, by 10:30 a.m.

DELBARTON — Billy R. Runyon, 72, of Delbarton passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2012.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Laurel Creek Freewill Baptist Church on Laurel Creek in Mingo County, with Pastor James Baisden officiating. Bradley David Shumate

Bradley David Shumate, 34, of Beckley, previously of Myrtle Beach, passed away unexpectedly Friday, November 23, 2012.

Born August 17, 1978, he was the son of Debbie L. Shumate of Beckley and Greg Shumate and his wife Pam of Branchland, WV.

Preceding Brad in death were his grandparents, Lloyd and Margaret Cochran and grandmother, Billie Jean Shumate.

Brad enjoyed watching WVU sports, caring for animals, walking around town and on the beach and had a love for gardening. Brad was an organ donor. He gave his eyes so that someone could see, his heart so that someone would have a better quality of life and his kidneys so that someone could come off dialysis as his final gift in life.

Besides his parents, Brad is survived by his companion Nicole Jarrett and her daughter Clarissa of Beckley; brothers, Chad Shumate and Dustin Shumate and his companion Sarah of Beckley; grandfather, Felix Shumate and Judy of Charleston; aunts, Peggy Daniels of Myrtle Beach, Karla Long and her husband Scott of Beckley and Susan Hargett and her companion Clint of Richmond, VA; uncle, Mark Shumate of Orlando, FL; niece and nephew, Ava and Ian Shumate whom he loved dearly; stepbrother, James Cantrell; stepsisters, Emily and Jennifer Cantrell; and numerous cousins and loving friends.

A celebration of life will be 1 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2012, at Calfee Funeral Home with Todd Harless officiating. Friends may visit with the family from noon until time of service.

Luther Siler III

Luther Siler III, 64, husband of Diana Siler, passed away Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 16, 1948, in Welch, WV, Luther was the son of the late Luther Siler, Jr., and Dorothy Cook Siler.

He was a graduate of West Virginia Institute of Technology in Montgomery, WV, where he was a founding member of Rho Epsilon Beta Fraternity, a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired in 1987 as a director for the Island Creek Coal Company. Luther was a loving husband, father and grandfather and he dedicated his life to his family.

Along with his wife Diana, he is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Christopher) Tapia of Lexington, Katherine (Patrick) Rupinen of Frankfort, and his grandchildren, Andrew, Allison and Alexander Tapia of Lexington and Patrick and Molly Rupinen of Frankfort.

Services will be Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Kerr Brothers-Harrodsburg Road by Deacon Mike Rupinen. Burial will follow in the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 Tuesday at the funeral home.
