Louella Margaret Bennett

Louella Margaret Bennett, age 54, of Cool Ridge, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012, at her home.

Born on December 8, 1957, in Pluto, W.Va., she was the daughter of Ruby Bennett of Beaver, and the late John David Bennett.

Louella was a homemaker, and had made her home at Cool Ridge, having been reared at the Old Eccles Road area.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Melvin Bennett.

Surviving other than her mother include her daughter, Danita Simmons and her husband Daniel of Cool Ridge; three brothers, Gary Bennett of Daniels, Raydean Bennett and his wife Linda of Beaver, Ernie Bennett of Beaver; a sister Loretta Bennett of Beckley; seven grandchildren, Jared, Brittany, Matthew, Makayla, Danielle, Gabrielle, and Allyssa. Louella’s companion Calvin Hatfield of Cool Ridge.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 1 p.m., with Rev. Orville Setliff officiating. Burial will follow at the Bennett Family Cemetery at Bennett Mountain.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Frances Aretha Carson

Mrs. Frances Aretha Carson, 82, of Beckley, died Monday, November 19, 2012.

Born March 17,1930 in Glen Rogers, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Franklin Adelino D’Oliveria and Cleo D’Oliveria Johnson.

Mrs. Carson was a member of Welcome Baptist Church, Beckley and was a Nursing Assistant at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital for 32 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Carson Sr., son, William H. Carson Jr., brothers, Cubit Frank D’Oliveria and Adelino D’Oliveria.

Those left to cherish her precious memories are her children, Gary R. (Nancy) Carson of Beckley; Rev. Bruce R. (Nina) Carson of Minden; Phillip Carson of Beckley; Steven A. (Carla) Carson of Harper; Derek R. Carson of Beckley, Anita D. (George) Morton of Beckley; Mary F. Allen of Gahanna, Ohio; Linda Y. (Walter) Robinson of Carriacou, Grenada; and Stephanie R. Carson of Gahanna, Ohio; 28 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 3 great- great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Welcome Baptist Church, 206 8th Street, Beckley, with Rev. David Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Larry Cook Jr.

Larry Cook Jr., age 51, of Coal City, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Arrangements are pending completion at Rose and Quesenberry, 1901 S. Kanawha Street, Beckley.

Sandra Renee Forren Foley

Sandra Renee Forren Foley, 46, went to be with the Lord, Monday, November 19, 2012.

Born February 8, 1966, in Hinton, she was the daughter of Rod and Judy Gwinn Forren of Meadow Bridge.

She was a 1984 graduate Meadow Bridge High School and a 1992 graduate of Marshall University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts and Master’s Degrees in Elementary Education. Sandra served more than a decade as a classroom school teacher and held other positions supporting student and staff development and technological advancement in the Greenbrier County School System. Through her strong passion and dedication to education, Sandra touched the lives of many students and fellow teachers. She was blessed with a warm heart and was talented in many areas, with an outstanding sense of style and an eye for organizing and decorating. Sandra enjoyed sunsets and dreamed of living at the beach. She was a beautiful lady both inside and out and will remain an inspiration to all who knew her.

Sandra was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Roscoe and Mabel Gwinn and her paternal grandparents Otto and Faye Forren.

In addition to her parents, those left to cherish her memory are her husband Greg Foley of Rainelle; her daughter Taylor Nicole Tomblin; her son Timothy Colton Tomblin; and their father Tim Tomblin, all of Logan; her sister Barbara Trail Sanford and husband Rex of Meadow Bridge; her brother Alan Forren and wife Sonya of Shady Spring; two stepsons Cole Gilkeson and Kain Foley; four nieces Brianne Trail, Lindsey Sanford, Jenna and Jadyn Forren; one nephew Jacob Mills; her beloved dog Rocco; and her dear friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, November 23, at Smathers Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mike Whisman officiating. Burial will follow in the Wickline Cemetery at Meadow Bridge.

Friends may call one hour before the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Kain Foley, Cole Gilkeson, Ray Foley, Rex Sanford, Jacob Mills and Dean Winger.

Billie Jean Gillum

Billie Jean Gillum, age 78, of Cabell Heights, went to be with the Lord, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, on Wednesday, November 21, 2012.

Born on April 16, 1934, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late George Reinhart and Ruth Mayse Reinhart.

Mrs. Gillum was a retired cook, having served as a cook at Black Knight Country Club, National Mine Academy, Bank of Raleigh, and the Raleigh Headstart Program.

Mrs. Gillum was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County.

She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Eugene Gillum.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her husband of 64 years, George Edward Gillum, a daughter, Barbara Blankenship and her husband Tom of Ball Ground, Ga.; sons, Tom Gillum and his wife Bette of Pittsburgh, Pa., Harry Gillum and his wife Brenda of Clarksburg, W.Va., Michael Gillum and his wife, Christina of Fayetteville; 12 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren are also among  her survivors.

Funeral services will be conducted  at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at Stanaford Acres on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 11 a.m., with Bishop Robert Doolittle as the speaker. Burial will follow at the Davis Cemetery at Mount Tabor, W.Va.

Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Men of the church will serve as pallbearers.

Sharon Ann Hall

Sharon Ann Hall, 61, of Beckley, passed away Monday, November 19, 2012, at Bowers Hospice House.

Born November 5, 1951 in Elyria, Ohio, she was the daughter of Margaret Tomechko of Uniontown, Pa. and the late Fred Schreckengost. Also preceding her in death were her step-father, John Tomechko and her grandparents, Fred and Lois Schreckengost and Mary and Samuel Mehallic.

Sharon was a social worker and attended the United Methodist Temple. She also enjoyed scrapbooking and most importantly spending time with her grandsons.

Besides her mother, Sharon is survived by her husband Larry Hall; three sons, Chris Hall, his wife Jamie and their two sons Payton and Andrew of Beckley; Brent Hall and his fiancé Bethany Knowles of Charleston and Adam Hall of Beckley; brother, John Tomechko and wife Jennifer and niece, Olivia Tomechko of Drayden, Md.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Randy Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Bobby Lee Meadows

Bobby Lee Meadows, 71, of Slab Fork, went to his eternal rest on November 20, 2012,  following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born August 14, 1941, he was the son of the late Carl and Reba Sizemore Meadows.

Bobby lived most of his life in Slab Fork. He was a coal miner for 32 years and was a member of the UMWA. Bobby loved being outdoors especially camping on the Greenbrier.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years Geraldine Meadows of Slab Fork; his son, Roy Lee Meadows and his wife Sherri of Beckley; his daughter Tammy Keaton and husband Roger of Hotchkiss. His grandchildren Heather Hensley Keaton, Kristen Meadows Day and her husband Charles, Tavie Haga and her husband Ryan, his great-grandchildren “Paw Paw’s girl” Ally Nicole Day, Courtney and Tyler Haga and Zachery Dale Keaton. His best friend and younger brother Carlos Privett, and his wife Malinda, his three sisters Darella Neal, and Mae Gillenwater and her husband Tommy, and Cormel Perdue and her husband, Oscar, and a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2012, in the Lilly-Crews Cemetery, Nimitz.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. on Friday at the Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Sophia.

SUMMERSVILLE — Tommy Elliot Moses Sr., 58, of Summersville, died Tuesday, November 20, 2012.

In keeping with his wishes the body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2012, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church at Summersville.

Richard M. Talbott

TALCOTT — Richard M. Talbott, 69, of Talcott, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at the Phillips Care Home, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born October 3, 1943 at Newport News, Va., he was a son of the late Caleb P. and Marion Perdue Talbott.

After graduating in 1961 from Talcott High School he served in the US Army, was a Vietnam Veteran, and also served in the Army National Guard. He was a former co-owner and operator of Skater’s Haven in Hinton, a former member of the Greenbrier Valley Rural Fire Department at Talcott, a member of the Hinton Masonic Lodge #62 AF and AM, a member of the Alderson Eastern Star #119 and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church at Talcott.

Richard was a retired engineering technician in bridge and road construction after completing 37 years of service with the WV Department of Transportation and was most recently employed by Greenhorn & O’Mara Consulting Firm as an engineering technician.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors; woodworking, baking, and spending time with his family and friends.

Preceded in death by two infant siblings and one brother, Thomas W. Talbott.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 45 years, Sandra Kay Talbott at home; two daughters, Michelle Wall and husband J.W. of Talcott and Cyndi Ward and husband Scott of Barger Springs; one sister, Sharon Lilly and husband Larry of Talcott; four grandchildren, Kimberly Cales, Cassidy, Skyler, and Alex Ward; three great-grandchildren, Rachel, Lilli and Levi Cales; a sister-in-law, Patricia Talbott and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2012, at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, with Pastors Sam Groves and Bob Talbott officiating. Burial will follow in the Talcott Cemetery.

Alta Frances McKinney Thompson, 92,   formerly of Russell Street and Flat Top Lake, died Wednesday, Nov. 21st, 2012, at the Village of Greystone.

Otis Franklin Vipperman

VASS BRANCH — Otis Franklin Vipperman, age 72 of Vass Branch,  went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 18, , at his home following a long illness.

Born on January 17, 1940, at Maxwell Hill, he was the son of the late Maude Scott Vipperman and the late Bennonie T. Vipperman.

Mr. Vipperman was an auto body shop manager for Grady Whitlock Ford in Beckley for many years.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, and two grandsons, Thomas “Eddie” Biggs and Ronnie Chapman.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 55 years,   Evelyn Robinson Vipperman, his children; Roberta Clark and her husband James of Mt. Hope, Sandra Vipperman of Richmond, Va., Otis Dewayne Vipperman and his wife Diane of Oceana, Theresa Biggs and her husband Thomas of Alderson, Allen Vipperman of Maryland, Timothy Vipperman and his wife Ellen of Rupert; a sister, Merna Vipperman of Crana, Va.; nine grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Friday, November 23, 2012 at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jonathan Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time on Friday.

Pallbearers will be James Duguid, Herbert Claypool, Thomas Vass, Eric Robinson, Jerry Tyree Jr. and Mike Walker.
