Eula Madge Blevins

LESLIE — Eula Madge Blevins, 89, of Slate Dump Road, Leslie, died Monday, July 8, 2013.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Rainelle, with the Rev. David Chrisman officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.

Friends may gather with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Irma Goins Bourgoin

OAK HILL — Irma Goins Bourgoin, 89 of Oak Hill, formerly of Beckley, passed to eternal rest at Bowers Hospice House Monday, July 8, 2013.

She bravely battled a rare cancer for 2 years. We lost a beautiful mother and friend but Heaven gained an angel.

Irma was born October 2, 1923, at Backus, W.Va. She was the eldest child of the late Plummer and Ella Goins of Backus.

She was a hard worker and a fantastic cook. She owned and operated, along with her late husband Lou, Ye Olde Fashioned Restaurant in Sophia, W.Va. for many years. Upon retirement they moved to Oak Hill. Irma was a member of Life Bridge Assembly of God Church in Oak Hill.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lucien Albert Bourgoin in 2008; also preceded her were siblings, Lucille DeDeo, Charles Goins and Junior Goins.

Survivors include daughter, Karen Shott of Oak Hill, Kathi and husband, Russell Meadows of Maidens, Va.; grandchildren, Matthew Shott, Laura and Thomas Meadows.

Surviving siblings are Josephine Anderson and Myron of Maine, Norman Goins and wife Joyce of Virginia, Glenville Goins and MB of New Jersey, Alberta Campbell and husband, James of Kentucky, and special sister-in-law, Mary Alice Goins of New Jersey. She has many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember Aunt Irma.

Irma had many close friends in Oak Hill and Beckley. Her family thanks all who made our mom smile over the years!

Services will be held at noon Saturday, July 13, 2013, at the LifeBridge Assembly of God Church with Pastor Shirley Fraker Watson officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Friends may gather with the family Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley and Dr. Scott Keffer and staff at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill and also the staff of Hidden Valley Nursing Homes for their care.

Joe Lee ‘Bondo’ Burnside

Joe Lee Burnside “Bondo” 68, of Dry Creek, died Sunday July 7, 2013, at his home.

He was born August 24, 1944 in West Virginia, a son of the late Carmel and Ada Cantley Burnside.

He was a retired body man and repaired cars on Big Coal River with over 40 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandparents, Sarah and Jack Cantley Williams and Smith and Belvy Burnside; siblings, Norman Burnside, Aurthur Burnside, Judy Burnside Arnold Kuhn, Pat Browning, and Guy Cox.

He was survived by a daughter, Karen Burnside of Glade Hill, Va.; a son, Joey Burnside of Dry Creek; siblings, Carolyn and Earl Clay of Granite Falls, N.C., Jr and Phyllis Burnside of Hickory, N.C., Peggy and John Walker of Citrus Springs, Fla., Carlos Burnside of Beaver; grandchildren, Tyler and Hunter Helton of Glade Hill, Va., several cousins, nieces, and nephews, and a very special person who was closer to him than a brother, Terry Bowman.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with Pastor Benny Turner officiating.

At his request, cremation will follow the service.

Friends may call two hours prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.

PRINCETON — Roy M. Ellison Sr., 67, of 10th Street, Princeton, died Monday, July 8, 2013.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastors Ralph Calfee and Jim Mattox officiating. Burial will follow in the Ellison Family Cemetery at Dunns with military honors given by Wright-Patterson Air Force Honor Guards & Mercer County Veterans Council.

Theodus Edward ‘Bunchie’ Greer

Theodus Edward “Bunchie” Greer, 79, of Beckley, died Sunday, July 7, 2013.

Born Dec. 20, 1933, in Fireco, W.Va., he was the son of the late Thomas Greer and Henrietta Smith.

Mr. Greer worked as a school bus driver, an EMT, and for the cab company. He attended Sky Ministries Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Stone, stepson, James “Leonard” Askew, five uncles, and two aunts.

Those left to cherish his precious memories are his loving wife of 34 years, Atheleen Cook Greer of Beckley; sons, Carlos (Kellie) Greer of Texas; Theodus Greer Jr. of Beckley; Calvin (Diane) Askew and Roosevelt Greer of North Carolina; Ricky (Kathy) Cook of Beckley; and Leon (Juwan) Askew of North Carolina; daughters, Gail Greer and Mychelle (Christopher) Jones of Ohio; Deidre (Darren) Spencer of Beckley; Ernestine (Timothy) Preston of Michigan; Peggy Cook of Ohio; and Elizabeth Neal of Beckley; brothers, Eddie “Hussell” Drafton, Timothy (Toni) Greer, and Kevin (Pynia) Greer, all of Beckley; sister, Sharon (Charles) Carrington of Beckley; 19 grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and family.

Funeral service will be noon, Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Sky Ministries Church, 413 Maplewood Lane, Beckley, with Rev. William L. Fruit officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

LEWISBURG — Carol Sue Hinkle, 63, of Lewisburg, died Monday, Juy 8, 2013.

John Douglas Humphreys

LEWISBURG — John Douglas Humphreys, 66, passed away Monday, July 8, 2013, at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Va.

John was born in Monroe County on April 12, 1947, to the late Adger Cecil and Ethel Ernestine Crozier Humphreys.

He was a graduate of Union High School, went to Barber College in Roanoke, Va., followed by being employed by Hercules Inc. in Covington, Va. for 14 years. He then attended Barber College in Huntington, W.Va. and later became a barber instructor at the Barber College in Charleston, W.Va. for 12 years. For the last 20 years, he was the owner and operator of The Court Barber Shop in Lewisburg, W.Va. John was an avid fan of NASCAR, WVU and Jerry West, a lifelong resident of Greenbrier County and attended Rhema Christian Center.

John was preceded in death by his mother, father and two brothers, Elwood and Rudy Humphreys.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia of Lewisburg, W.Va.; a daughter, Mclanie Bair and son-in-law, Gehrie “Mac” Bair of Bridgewater, Va.; a son, Jonathan Humphreys of Charlottesville, Va.; sister, Barbara Thompson of Ronceverte, W.Va. and three grandsons, Cooper, Rowan and Grady Bair.

A memorial service will be held noon on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at the Rhema Christian Center in Fairlea with the Rev. Stewart Farley officiating. There will be no graveside services. Per his request he will be cremated.

Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of the service on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Daisy Lucille Jackson

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Daisy Lucille Jackson, 91, of  White Sulphur Springs, died on July 6, 2013.

Services will be conducted on Friday, July 12, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. James United Methodist Church on Church Street in White Sulphur Springs with Rev. Greg Scott officiating. The family will receive their friends from 10:30 a.m. until funeral time. Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs.

Friends may also call from 3 to 5 p.m. at Shanklin Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon, July 11, 2013.

Curtis R. Jennings

Curtis Robert Jennings was born on Dec. 10th, 1972. He passed away on July 7th, 2013.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Joann Stoots Jennings; a sister, Arlene Trent and a brother, Isaac Micheal Jennings.

Curtis is survived by his wife, Denise and son, Jacob “Jake” Jennings, both of Beckley; brothers, Dwayne Jennings of Beckley, Carlos Ray Jennings of Orlando, Fla.; sister, Gearldine Ashby of Burr Hill, Va.; nieces, Melaine Trent and Jessica Mae Jennings both of Orlando; nephew, Isaac Floyd Conley and his wife, Tonya of Burr Hill; great niece and nephew, Carlie and Evan Conley of Burr Hill; and a sister-in-law, Duffenna Jennings of Roxboro, N.C.

There will be no formal services.

SUMMERSVILLE — Bentley Joshua Kiser, 37-day-old infant of Timothy Kiser and Jaclyn Hughart of Summersville passed away on Monday, July 8, 2013

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013, in the White Funeral Home at Summersville with Pastor Butch Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville.

Leo Edward May

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” 2nd Timothy 4:7

Leo Edward May, 81 of Shady Spring, passed away Tuesday, July 9th, 2013, after a 4 year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born December 1, 1931, in Pentwater, Mich., he was the son of the late Myron and Dorothy May.

Leo was a retired employee of Consol Roland Mine, a combat wounded Korean War Veteran, past president of the Beckley chapter of the DAV, and was a member of the Daniels Bible Church.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Jim, Bob and Doran.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Willa; sons, David (Diane) of Sevierville, Tenn., John (Janie) of Kodak, Tenn., Jim (Ruth) of Cool Ridge; daughters, Susan (Mike) Winston of Shady Spring and Jeannie (Craig) Woodrum of Ridgeley, W.Va.; Grandchildren, Chris (Bridget) May of Charleston, W.Va., Steven (Amy) Winston of Beckley, Lynnette May of Sevierville, JC (Emilee) May of Burtonville, Md., Aaron (Amanda) May of Sevierville, Rhea and Catherine May of New York, Michelle (Mike) Addair of Dandridge, Tenn., Kris (Jenny) Imler of Charleston, W.Va., Clayton and Stacey Woodrum of Cumberland, Md. Great grandchildren, Emma Nunley, Devin Oglesby, Collin and Dillon May, Natalie and Connor Winston, Bryson Imler and Addison Addair. Also survived by sisters: Pat Spain of East Tawas, Mich. and Polly Budke of Haines, Ark.; special friends: Hutch Duncan, Ronnie Lubich and Tom Farley.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and sons-in-law.

Service to be held at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel at 1 p.m.  on Saturday, July 13, officiated by Pastor Scott Mayberry and Pastor David May. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity.

Charles Jackson ‘Jack’ Pack

STREETER — Charles Jackson “Jack” Pack, age 87, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 4:21 a.m. at his home in Streeter.

Born on February 19, 1926, at Streeter, W.Va., he was the son of the late Pearl B. and Ruby V. Pack.

Jack was a member of the Bluestone View Primitive Baptist Church on Ellison Ridge, W.Va.

He retired as a self-employed timberman after working many years for the Basham Brothers Co. He continued to work in gardening and farming and was an avid hunter. Jack was a World War II veteran having served in the 7th fleet of the United States Navy.

Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Annabelle Wooten Pack; an infant son, Charles Dale Pack; a daughter, Sharon Elaine Pack; two brothers, Curtis Pack and James Pack and a sister, Alice Francise Okes.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Terisa B. Pack of Streeter; sons, Tommy and wife Janet of Daniels; Tony and wife, Connie of Daniels and Herman and wife, Karen of Streeter; 13 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a special cousin, Missy Price and special neighbor, D.J. Pettry.

The family is grateful for the ceaseless loving care extended to him, especially in his last weeks here on earth, by his son and daughter-in-law, Herman and Karen Pack and grandson, Ernest (Timmy) McGraw II. The family would also like to thank Hospice of Southern West Virginia for their support and compassion.

Funeral services will be held at Rhoda Ann Missionary Baptist Church at Streeter, on Friday, July 12, 2013, at 2 p.m. Viewing will be Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Jack’s home in Streeter from 6 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted by Elder Tony Pack and Elder Tommy Pack. Burial will follow in the Pack Family Cemetery on Panther Knob.

Grandsons and D.J. Pettry will serve as pallbearers.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Billy Pettry and Dale Pettry.

Ileen B. Roman

LEWISBURG — Ileen B. Roman, 90, of Lewisburg, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 9, 2013.

She was born on June 10, 1923, at Ronceverte, W.Va.

She was a life long member of Ronceverte Christian Church. Retired from Greenbrier Laundry of Ronceverte with 29 years of dedicated service as well as a lifelong homemaker. She lived her life for the Lord and blessed those around her with her generous heart and kindness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dannie D. Roman on November 26, 1922.

She is survived by a son, Roy Edward Roman (Debbie) of Monroe, Va. and a daughter, Janet Howard (Bud) of Lewisburg; grandchildren, Roy Jr. and Greg Roman of North Carolina, Shanna Roman and Cindy Coley of Monroe, Va., David Howard of Lewisburg, Bruce Howard (Tammy) of North Carolina and Anita Snyder (Bill) of White Sulphur Springs; 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 12th, at the Ronceverte Christian Church with Rev. Jason Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenbrier Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Ronceverte Christian Church.

C. ‘Harry’ Harrison Tomlin

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. — C. “Harry” Harrison Tomlin, 75, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., died Friday, June 28, 2013.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at the Woolwine-Tomlin Cemetery.

Arrangements in South Carolina were by Stuhr’s Northwoods Chapel.

 

Richard Eugene Wood

GLEN JEAN — Richard Eugene Wood, 85, of Glen Jean, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Pine Lodge Care and Rehabilitation Center, Beckley.

Born May 26, 1928, at Thayer, the son of the late Roy Wood and Bessie Staton Wood.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife Juanita Wood in 1993; one daughter and son-in-law Anna Lee Underwood and Tom Underwood; and one great grandson Kalib Dean Wood.

Those left to cherish his memory include seven sons, Eric Hamilton and wife Carla of Michigan, Richard Wood II and wife Carol of North Carolina, Earl Dean Wood and wife Connie of Glen Jean, David Wood and wife Susan of Harvey, Larry Wood and wife Sheila of North Carolina, James Wood and wife Theresa of Maple Folk, and Michael Wood and wife Melony of North Carolina; grandchildren, Tommy, Alfred, and April Underwood, Eric, Tina and Lura Hamilton, Jason Wetzel, Richard and John Wood, Lisa Myers, Dean Wood, David Wood, Sandra Campbell, Mathew Wood, and Brittany Wood; 20 great grandchildren; and Special great grandson Casey Wood.

His remains rest at High Lawn Funeral Chapel, Oak Hill.

Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5250 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley where he will be laid to rest following the service.

There will be no visitation.

Carl “Doc” Gwinn Woolwine, 76, passed away Monday, July 8, 2013.
