Pattie Lee Williams Brooks
Pattie Lee Williams Brooks, age 81, of Beckley, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2010, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley after a battle with cancer.
Born November 8, 1928, at Long Branch, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Virgie Walton Williams. Mrs. Brooks was a homemaker, member of the Long Branch Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Brooks, and by two brothers, Frank Williams, Jr., and Cyrus Williams.
Surviving are: Her daughter, Karen Willey and her husband Dana of Harwinton, Conn.; Three Grandchildren: Victoria Willey Richnavsky of Guilford, Conn., Daniel and Jameson Willey, both of Harwinton, Conn.; One Niece: Peggy Brown and her husband Craig of Beckley; One Nephew: Richard Williams and his wife Sallye of Apopka, Fla. Numerous cousins are also surviving.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2009, at the Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Mt. Hope. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Daniel and Jameson Willey, Robert Richnavsky, Steward Myers, Craig Brown and Brian Williams.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bowers Hospice House at Beckley, A.S.P.C.A or to your local animal shelter.

RICHWOOD — Lee S. Chambers, 93, of Richwood, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at Summersville Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, in Simons-Coleman Funeral Home, Richwood, with Pastor Larry Russell officiating. Interments will be in Baber Cemetery, Richwood. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 8, in the funeral home.

RICH CREEK, Va. — Lillian Delores Claytor, 84, of Rich Creek, Va., passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at the Country View Assisted Living, Peterstown.

Pamela Lynn Sanders Galapon
Pamela Lynn Sanders Galapon, age 54, of Glade Springs, Daniels, West Virginia, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2010, at her home following a sudden illness.
Born on September 21, 1955, in Mullens, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Eva Abshire Sanders of Daniels, W.Va., and the late Glenn Sanders.
Mrs. Galapon was a registered nurse, having previously worked with her husband, the late Dr. Perry Galapon, at the Shady Spring Medical Center. She was a graduate of Glen Rogers High School, and West Virginia Tech in 1974.
Mrs. Galapon was a member of the Maxwell Hill Baptist Church for many years. She had made her home at Glade Springs for the past 10 years.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Perry Galapon.
Surviving are her sons: Dr. Philip Galapon and his wife Maggie of Huntington, and Patrick Galapon of Glade Springs; one brother, Greg Sanders of Kopperston; a sister, Lori Accord and her husband Clifford of Kopperston.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at the Maxwell Hill Baptist Church, 301 Teel Road, Beckley, with Pastor Ken Killen officiating. Entombment will follow at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the church.

Gail Hill
On Thursday, February 4th, 2010, our wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Gail Hill of Hall Street, Beckley, died at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, following a short illness. She was 62 years of age.
Born Linda Gail Heaton on April 20, 1947, in Charleston, Missouri, Gail, as she was affectionately known all her life, was the 1st of four children born to the late Vernon Leon and Alexandrina Critchon Heaton.
Gail spent her childhood in Cleveland, Ohio, where she graduated from West Tech High School. The “boy next door,” Walter Arnold Hill, was her childhood sweetheart. Gail and Arnold have celebrated 43 years of marriage. A resident of Beckley since 1970, she has resided on Hall Street the past 30 years. Gail was of the Christian faith. Gail’s life was focused on home and family. She has cherished the time she has spent with her eight grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, John and Glenna Hill.
In addition to her beloved Arnold, Gail is the precious Mom of Lisa Minor of Beckley, Jamie Hill and his wife Stephanie of Fairdale, Kim Bolt and her husband Steve of Daniels, and Robbie Hill and his wife Bambi of Beckley; the doting Ma Ma of Johnna Minor, Brittani Bolt, Caila Hill, Mary Kate Bolt, Matthew Hill, Allie Bolt, Leah Hill and Bryant Hill; the sweet sister of Leon Heaton and his wife, Michelle, of Valley City, Ohio, Anne Heaton of Sacramento, Calif., and David Heaton and his wife Lynn of Crab Orchard; the fond sister-in-law of Katy Hill of Tickfaw, Louisiana, and Tracie Walls and her husband DJ of Magnolia, Texas; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 10th, at 1 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. E.G. “Buz” Keller officiating. Burial will follow in the Calfee Cemetery at Mt. Tabor. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening at the mortuary from 6 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
And so to our wife, mother, grandmother and our friend, “We love you still. Though you are gone, YOU live in what we do.”

Joe Honaker
On Friday, February 5th, 2010, our cherished Joe Honaker of Fulton Avenue, Beckley, passed away at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness. He was 53 years of age.
Born Kermit Joseph Honaker on March 12, 1956, Joe, as he was affectionately known all his life, was the second of two sons born to Kermit and Mary Shumate Honaker of Mabscott.
Joe spent his childhood in Mabscott. He was of the Church of Christ faith. Joe was a disabled coal miner, having last worked at Maple Meadow. He had 18 years in the mining industry. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing and working with wood.
In addition to his beloved parents, those left to cherish his memory are his children, Mary Jo Stone and her husband, Jesse, of Clear Creek, Kermit Joseph Honaker II of Mabscott and Wesley Dean Honaker of Beckley; he was the fond brother of David Michael Honaker of Tucson, Arizona; his dear companion, Deborah (Debbie) Collins, and her son, Justin; the proud grandfather of Logan Neal and Breeaunna Pearl.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will follow in the Honaker Cemetery #2 beside the Arnett Assembly of God Church at Arnett.

Robert Samuel McGuire
JESSE — Robert Samuel McGuire, 84, of Jesse, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 6, 2010, in Raleigh General Hospital.
He was born April 29, 1925, in Starratt, W.Va., a son of the late Walter and Lizzie Barnette McGuire.
He was a United States Army Veteran, a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was also preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
He attended the Turkey Ridge Baptist Church and Rhema Ministries. He enjoyed hunting, riding his four-wheeler and giving out religious tracts.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 and a half years, Ruth Francis McGuire; daughter Gloria Cline and husband Epp of Oceana, W.Va.; two sons, Jack McGuire and wife Patricia of Glen Fork, W.Va., and Bobby McGuire and wife Virginia of Montcalm, W.Va.; nine grandchildren, Angela Hagendorn and husband Brian, Carolyn Wilson and Bobby McGuire all of Missouri, Stephen Vaught and wife Jai of Elkhart, Indiana, Phillip Vaught and wife April of Rich Creek, Va., Sandra Morgan and husband James “Chuck” of McGraws, W.Va., Christina McGuire of Beckley, W.Va., Brandy Stafford and husband Daniel of Oceana, W.Va., and Hunter McGuire of Montcalm, W.Va.; ten great-grandchildren, Travis, Brittney and Brandon Hagendorn, Taylor, Lani and Emma Wilson, Caitlyn Morgan, Madison and Aaliyah Vaught and Hannah Vaught due to be born in April 2010; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2010, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, with the Rev. Johnny Jones and Rev. Ernest Francis officiating. He will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, W.Va.
Friends may gather with the family from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Racheal D. Meadows
On February 5, 2010, at 1:35 p.m. at Raleigh General Hospital, quite suddenly, our precious Racheal D. Bailey Meadows, age 31, left this world only to enter into her heavenly home with her Lord and Savior. She was met by loved ones who have preceded her in death, mother Beverly Manning Bailey, paternal grandfather Eugene Bailey and maternal stepgrandmother Kathryn Phillips. Racheal has fought a good fight for the past 10 months after receiving a bone marrow stem cell transplant at Ruby Memorial Hospital in May 2009.
Born February 7, 1978, in Beckley, W.Va., she was the daughter of Ricky Bailey and the late Beverly Manning Bailey. She has been cared for over the past months by her bonus-mom Vonda Phillips Bailey of Red Star, W.Va. She was the daughter-in-law of Jerry and Patty Meadows of Glen Morgan.
Racheal was a former employee of Texas Steakhouse prior to her illness. She was a graduate of Mount Hope High School and Valley College of Technology. She was a member of Packs Branch Baptist Church and was supported by her pastor, Sam Vance, and her church family.
Besides her parents she is survived by her loving and supportive husband of almost 12 years, Robert “Bobby” Meadows, her precious children Kaitlyn, age 11, and her twins, Bailey and Jacob, age 3, all at home. She is also survived by her brother, Jeremy Bailey of Harvey, and a special niece, Brenna Bailey of Oak Hill, and is survived by paternal grandmother Ileatta Bailey of Packs Branch, maternal grandparents Bob and Pearl Manning of Scarbro, her paternal great-grandmother Edith Workman of Dorothy, and her maternal stepgrandfather Lloyd Phillips of Red Star. She will be missed by aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters-in-law, church family, co-workers and special friends.
Arrangements are being handled by Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope, with the visitation being held at Packs Branch Baptist Church on Monday, February 8, from 6 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be Tuesday, February 9, at 2 p.m. also at the church with Pastor Sam Vance officiating. Her cousins will serve as pallbearers. Graveside rites will be held at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens following the funeral.

Mrs. Emma Jean Steele, 75, of Alvon died Saturday morning, Feb. 6, 2010, in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center at Fairlea after an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Steele will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, in the Alvon United Methodist Church. The family will receive their friends 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

Emma Marczinko Swatzyna
On Saturday, February 6th, 2010, our beloved, Emma Marczinko Swatzyna, formerly of Ball Street, Beckley, died in Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a short illness. She was 78 years of age.
Born Mary Emma Marczinko on May 11, 1931, at Tams, Emma, as she was affectionately known all her life, was one of five children born to the late Joe and Helen Zemenscik Marczinko. Her sister, Janie, and brother, Frank, preceded her in death.
Emma was employed by Beckley Hospital as a unit secretary and as a secretary for the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
On July 15, 1950, Emma married Rudy Swatzyna. They were the proud parents of a daughter, Ruth Nerenberg and her husband, Michael, of Pueblo, Colo., Rudy of Lindside, Randy of Roanoke, and Rex and his wife Lisa of Charleston, S.C. Rudy Swatzyna died on October 7, 2001. Left to cherish their memory are eight grandchildren, Julia Nerenberg Gonzalez, Seth Nerenberg, Rudolph (Buck) Swatzyna, Andrew Swatzyna, Luke Swatzyna, Laura Swatzyna, Kelsey Swatzyna, and Victor Swatzyna. Emma is the dear sister of Helen Swatzyna and Irene Bracken; the fond sister-in-law and dear friend of Jean Swatzyna; her brothers-in-law, Ronald, Roman, and Raymond Swatzyna, also survive.
The Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated today (Monday) at 11 a.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Mr. Donald Wise as celebrant. The Rite of Committal will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Sunset Memorial Park, where Emma will be laid to rest beside her beloved Rudy.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.

Margie White
This past Saturday, February 6th, 2010, our beloved Margie White passed away at the Raleigh General Hospital. She was in her 84th year.
Born Margie Mae Martin on May 31, 1925, at Raleigh, she was the 2nd of six children born to the late Dewey Basil and Fannie Ethel Farmer Martin. Her sister, Wilda Allen, and brothers, Albert William and Dewey Basil Martin Jr., preceded her in death.
Margie spent her childhood at Raleigh. She was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. A longtime resident of Mankin Avenue, she was a member of the Beckley Regular Baptist Church. She has resided at the Villages of Greystone in Beaver for the past three years. Margie was a retired officer of the Bank of Raleigh (City National Bank). In her earlier years, she was an avid bowler.
Margie was married to Richard Dolph White, who preceded her in death on December 2, 1998. To this union was born their son Rick, who survives her along with his wife Charlotte of Roanoke, Virginia; she is the dear sister of Fay Fain of Sprague and Janice Williams of Johnson City, Tennessee. She is also survived by special friends Ed and Eliene Kessinger.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Margie will then be laid to rest beside her beloved Richard at the Highlawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill. The family will receive friends today (Monday) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary and one hour prior to the services on Tuesday.
And so at the end of the day we remember Margie White, who was sweet in spirit, a blessed mother, sister and friend to many people.
