Henry Garland Adams
OAK HILL — Henry Garland Adams, 93, of Oak Hill, formerly of Homestead, Fla., died Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Hidden Valley Center, Oak Hill.
Garland was born April 11, 1920, in Crumpler, Va. to the late William Victor and Essie Day Adams.
In addition to his parents, Garland is preceded in death by his sister, Lottie and brothers, Warren, Doug and Buford and his beloved wife, Fern Grogan Adams.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Mary Purvines of Chesterfield, Mo. and Susan Bouldin of Alderson and by his sister, Jean Holtzapfel of Beckley.
Garland was a 1936 graduate of Mark Twain High School where he served as senior class president, captain of the football team and valedictorian. He left Glenville State Teachers College during World War II to join the United States Navy serving as Chief Petty Officer.
He spent many years in Homestead, Fla. as a contractor and builder of fine homes in the Miami, Dade County area.
The family wishes especially to thank Susan Woodson, his primary caregiver for many years, and the wonderful staff and physicians affiliated with Hidden Valley Center in Oak Hill who gave him such wonderful care. The staff truly became his loving family in his last year.
The family will be holding a private service to celebrate Garland’s life.

NETTIE — Stefanie Denise Amick, 46, of Nettie, passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, following a short illness.

Stephen Glen Bailey
PETERSTOWN — Stephen Glen Bailey, 23, of Peterstown, formerly of Glen Fork, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Born June 7, 1990, in Beckley, he was the son of Stephen Grant Bailey and Lisa Cozort Bailey of Peterstown.
Glen was of the Pentecostal faith. He enjoyed sports, music, playing guitar, video games, hunting, fishing, being outdoors and riding dirt bikes. He also enjoyed skiing and snowboarding.
Glen was a 2008 graduate of Harman High School and was a recipient of the Promise Scholarship.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tennis and Margie Powers Bailey; and his uncles, Shawn Cozort and Gary Beatle Sutherland.
He is survived by his parents, Steve and Lisa Bailey of Peterstown; sister, Sara Bailey of Kopperston; grandparents, Henry and Andrea Cozort of Greenville, W.Va.; great-grandmother, Willie Mae Layne of Gruetli-Laager, Tenn.; niece, Mya Grace Shillingburg; nephew, Bryson Shillingburg; special aunt, Tina Morgan and her husband, Mike of Oceana.
Glen is also survived by several other aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
A celebration of Glen’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 7, 2013, at the Glen Fork Church of God with the Rev. Darrell Stapleton and Rev. Cecil Thompson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until the time of the service.
