Paul Stephen ‘Steve’ August

Paul Stephen “Steve” August, 63, of Stickney, met his Lord and Savior, Jesus, face to face on Saturday, November 9, 2013.

Born March 1st, 1950, at Stickney, he was the son of the late Rev. William and Irene August.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Greta Pettry Quarles and Gloria Ann August, a brother, Jerry Dean August, sister-in-law, Judy August, brothers-in-law, Charlie Pettry, Ronnie Quarles and Rex Stover. A child which he never met till the day of his passing.

He was a 1969 graduate of Nashville Auto Diesel College. He was a retired coal miner and a proud and loyal member of the UMWA. Steve also was a proud member of the Masonic Boone Lodge #162 in Whitesville, WV, and a member of Scottish Rite and Shriners.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 40 years, Terry Stover August, his children, “his heart,” Andrea August Cook and husband, Mark, of Naoma, Chasity August Gilfilen and husband, Steve, of Rock Creek, and Steve August II and wife, Kristen, of Rock Creek, his grandchildren “the apples of his eye” Joshua and Joseph Cook, Nathaniel Gilfilen and Madeline and Bailey August, his sister, Sandy August Hamilton and husband, Enoch, of Millwood, WV, his brothers, David August and wife, Charlotte, of Stickney, John August and wife, Bonny, of New Castle, PA; Gary August of Charleston, WV, and Ray August and wife, Barbara, of Brunswick, OH, his mother-in-law Sina Stover, and his brother-in-law, Steve Stover, of Stickney, WV; many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved, A very dear aunt Martha Pauley of Nellis, WV. He had a host of friends, too many to count, whom he cherished very much, special friends Weldon, Grover, C.C. and Danny that went the last mile with him.

Steve loved his family beyond measure, and was consumed by the love of Christ. He was known by many and loved by all. The Lord called, “come home my weary child, and he answered, “Here am I.”

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, November 14, 2013, at 2 o’clock in the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whiteville, WV, with the Rev. David Cook and the Rev. Danny Gilfilen. Interment will be in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, WV.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.



Margaret V. Burwell

NARROWS, Va. — Margaret V. Burwell, 92, of Narrows, Va., passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013. 

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, with Pastor Terry Easter officiating. Burial will follow in the Peterstown Cemetery, Giles County. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service Wednesday.

Mary Elizabeth Miller

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Miller, 93, of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Harlem Heights, died Friday, November 8, 2013.

Born October 5, 1920, in Longacre, WV, she was the daughter of the late Otis and Mary Agnes Bryant Nelson.

Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church Harlem Heights, Harlem Heights, WV.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest James Miller, on May 16, 1996, brothers, Charles Otis Nelson on December 24, 1991, and Joseph Sampson Nelson on December 23, 1993.

Left to cherish precious memories are her daughter: Sandra Lee Bledsoe and son-in-law John Edward Bledsoe of Charlotte, NC; grandson, Kevin Edward Miler of Charlotte, NC; sister-in-law, Willie B. Nelson of Harlem Heights, WV; 4 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, 3 stepgrandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at the First Baptist Church of Harlem Heights, Broadway Ave., Harlem Heights, with Rev. Freddie Davenport officiating. Burial will follow at Meadow Haven Memorial Park, Ingram Branch.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

Nancy Wooten Rowsey

SUFFOLK, Va. — Nancy Wooten Rowsey, 95, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2013.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at Honaker Funeral Home in Logan. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, burial to immediately follow. Officiating services will be the Rev. Eddie Layne, the Rev. Bob Wooten and Darrel Mahon Jr.

George Wesley White

FAIRPLAIN — George Wesley White, 77, of Fairplain, died Nov. 10, 2013.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Long and Fisher Funeral Chapel in Sissonville with the Rev. Matt Baldwin officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville, where military graveside rites will be conducted. POOL — Genevieve Harrah Williams, 84, of Pool, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2013.

Richard N. Wills

Richard N. Wills, 82, of Beckley went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife Burma on Saturday, November 9, 2013, in Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.

Born November 13, 1930, in Naoma, he was the son of the late Ernest and Minnie McGinnis Wills.

Richard was a retired equipment operator, last working for Colony Bay Coal Company, in Wharton. He loved fishing, hunting, and being outdoors. He dearly loved being with his family. He was a very devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years Burma Wills, whom he missed dearly since her passing. His son, Barry Wills, stepson Marty Stover, and a granddaughter Jackie Wills. Three Brothers: James Wills, Clyde Wills, and Paul Wills.

Those left to cherish his memory include 2 sons Andy Wills of Beckley, Bruce Wills of Beckley, and a stepson Shawn West of Ohio, and his daughter Brenda Gibson of Grandview. His granddaughter Kyra Wills and a host of nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

In keeping with Richard’s wishes he will be cremated, and there will be no services.
