Nina Virginia Blair
Nina Virginia Blair, 95, of Crab Orchard, went to her eternal home on Friday, October 25, 2013, just one month shy of her 96th birthday.
Born November 25, 1917, in Danbury, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Wesley and Jennie Gray Rhodes.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, William Hollis Rhodes, Posey E. Rhodes; sister, Josie Rhodes Stevens; special sister-in-law, Ellen Lackey Rhodes; and stepson, Bruce “Buddy” Taylor.
Nina graduated from Lawsonville High School in 1937 and moved to Crab Orchard in the late 1930s. She owned and operated Nina’s Market in Crab Orchard for many years. Nina was a member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church and attended the Fellowship Sunday school class as her health permitted. She was also an active member of Circle #1.
Survivors include her son, Donald Blair of Crab Orchard; grandchildren, Mrs. Christopher (Sandra) Graham of Beckley, Mrs. Dale (Joanna) Fitzpatrick, II, of Crab Orchard, Ralph Bailey of Long Branch, WV, Gregory Taylor of Daniels, WV; great-grandchildren, Dakota Blankenship, Sidney Graham, Destiny Blankenship, Alden Fitzpatrick, II, Alex Fitzpatrick, Tyler Bailey, Hannah Bailey; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2013, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Sisson and Pastor Jennie Leake Hemrick officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to service on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Chris Graham, Dale Fitzpatrick, Pete Graham, Butch Harper, Greg Taylor and Barry Stevens.
Special appreciation and gratitude to her special caregivers and friends, Betty Poe, Helen Kiblinger, Grace Wilson and Becky Harmon.

MONETA, Va. — Marie Wood Link, 87, of Moneta, Va., formerly of Rich Creek, Va., passed away Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013.

Gloria Louise ‘Mutt’ Canterbury Prichard
KOPPERSTON — Gloria Louise “Mutt” Canterbury Prichard, 80, of Kopperston, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 26, 2013.
She was born November 16, 1932, in Oceana, WV, the daughter of the late Jennie Cook and Sola Canterbury.
She was a member of the Oceana Freewill Baptist Church for 55 years where she loved to sing in the choir. Prior to retirement she was a part-time cook for the Wyoming County Board of Education. She was a 1955 graduate of Oceana High School. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Earl Prichard; sons Earl, Jr., and wife Ruta Prichard of Bolt, and Jeffrey and wife Kathy of Kopperston Road; stepdaughter Brenda Hutchinson and husband Jerry of Crany; grandchildren Caleb Prichard and wife Melissa of Bolt, Brent Prichard and wife Kristy of Mullens, Kaylee and Emily Prichard of Kopperston Road, David Bailey of Crany, Brian Hutchinson and wife Emily of Bolt; great-grandchildren Karsey, Natalee, and Mylee Prichard, Tyler Bailey, and Heidi and Bowen Hutchinson; a sister Rema Jones of Chillicothe, OH; a special sister-in-law Louise Womack of Beckley; special niece Rosemary Elswick of Oceana; a special friend Ethelene Neal of Oceana; a special sister-in-law Maggie Blankenship of Oceana; and several nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving family and friends.
A special thank you to caregivers, Geraldine McKinney, Connie Brown and Hospice workers Darlene Bennett and Cassie Street.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at the Oceana Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Jackie Grimmett officiating. She will be laid to rest in the mausoleum at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV.
Friends may gather with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, October 28, 2013, at the church.

Brothers-in-law will serve as pallbearers.

Goldie Shrewsbury, age 96, went home to be with the Lord Friday, October 25, 2013.
Born and raised in Spanishburg, she was one of 11 children of the late Harrison and Paradine Green, later a resident of Rhodell for 50 years and Beckley for 27 years.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Paul and her son Paul Tyrone.
She is greatly missed by her three daughters: Peggy Hollins of Beckley, Beverley Adams and husband Carrol of New Bern, NC, Veronica Lennon and husband Brad of Melbourne, FL; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Special thanks to her caretaker assistants, Mary Ann Allen, Ronnie Allen, Aaron Pugh, Irene Hensley, and Patsy Reed, for their loving care.
