George Joseph Fama, 92, of Stanaford Acres died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013.

The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at St. Francis de Sales Church. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Mr. Fama will be entombed in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Billy Francis Koontz

Billy Francis Koontz, age 62, of Beckley, WV, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, as a result of being struck by an automobile.

Born on October 10, 1950, at Cranberry, WV, he was the son of the late Rev. Robert F. Koontz and Hazel Scalf Koontz.

Mr. Koontz was last employed at Save-a-Lot Food Store in Beckley, and was a former employee of Dr. Pepper Bottling Company and Beckley Newspapers Inc.

Mr. Koontz  was a member of the Heart of God Ministries in Beckley, and in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Daniel Willis, by paternal grandparents, Robert Francis and Violet Koontz, and maternal grandparents, James and Martha Scalf.

Surviving are his wife, Rosie Louise Richmond Koontz; Four children: Elizabeth Jane Danley and her husband James,  Brandy Lynn Smith and her husband Jason, and Christopher Franklin Koontz, all of North Carolina, Jeffrey Ernest Koontz of Virginia. A brother, Robert Edward Koontz and his wife Kimberly of Elkview, WV, two sisters, Mary Koontz Jennings and her husband Ronald of Midway, WV, and Betty Koontz Bobbitt and her husband Stephen of Barboursville, WV. Four grandchildren, Summer Keaton and Rebecca Keaton, Jamie Danley, and Justin Koontz.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley at 10 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2013, with Bishop Fred T. Simms officiating. Burial will follow at the Alexander Richmond Cemetery at Freezeland Mountain. Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home. Philip Aaron Mann

CHARLESTON — Philip Aaron Mann, 34, of Charleston, formerly of Hilldale, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, October 8, 2013, following a long illness.

Born December 15, 1978, at Hinton, he was the son of Philip E. and Mary Ruth Palmer Mann of Hilldale. A 1996 graduate of Summers County High School, he attended Concord College, United States Air Force Veteran, member of Freedom Baptist Church at Powley’s Creek. Philip was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.

Besides his parents he is survived by one daughter, Molly Madison Mann of Hinton, and a stepson, Logan Richmond of Hinton.

In keeping with his wishes, a private viewing was held at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors and his body was cremated.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Peggy Evans Roush, 91, of Orlando, formerly of Beckley, passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2013.

Graveside rites and burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. There will be no visitation.

Edward Wayne  Runyon

Edward Wayne Runyon, 43, of Eunice, WV, died Thursday, October 10, 2013, at his home.

He was born a son of the late Billie Faye “Brookie” Holstein and Edward C. Runyon Jr.

He is survived by his sister, Peggy Holmes and husband, Rick, of St. Albans, WV, and a brother, Billy Paul Runyon of Eunice; nieces, Casey Mayes and husband, Brett, of St. Albans, WV, and Tanya Homes of St. Albans, WV; great-niece, Harper Elizabeth Mayes.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon, October 14, 2013, at one o’clock in the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, WV, with Pastor Charles Dickens officiating. Interment is in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, WV.

Visitation will be 2 hours before the service.

Armstrong Funeral Home is serving the family.

FAYETTEVILLE — Mrs. Gale R. Staunton, 58, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013.

Connie Taylor, 55, of Clear Creek, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013.

Arrangements are pending completion at Rose and Quesenberry, 1901 S. Kanawha St., Beckley.

Janet K. Weaver

MULLENS — Janet Kay Weaver, 75, of Mullens went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 10, 2013, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness.

Born October 18, 1937, at Maben, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Leona (Morgan) Tony.

Janet was a homemaker, a member of the Mullens Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher, she had been a volunteer at the Itmann Food Bank for many years, was a member of the Mullens Dogwood Festival Committee where she oversaw the art and photo contest, and was a former volunteer for the American Cancer Society.

In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Tony.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Eldsworth Weaver; two daughters, Pamela LaPorte Weaver and Susan Weaver both of Mullens; two sons, Gary Weaver of Pineville and Tim Weaver of Mullens; four grandchildren, Lee Weaver, Bryon Hatfield, Christopher Weaver, and Aerial Bledsoe; five great-grandchildren, Devin Hatfield, Jayce Weaver, Tiarra Hollensworth, Vaden Lyons, and Camille Bledsoe; two sisters, Gloria Worley of Mullens and Faye Combs of Otsego; and four brothers, Larry Tony, Jimmy Tony, and Danny Tony all of Mullens and David Tony of Crab Orchard.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2013, at Mullens Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Lewis Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Christina Anita Williams

Christina Anita Williams, 52, of Beckley, was called home October 9, 2013, after fighting the good fight.

Born April 27, 1961, in Beckley, WV, she was the daughter of Anna Lovett and Freddy Williams.

Preceding Chris in death were her father, Freddy Williams; her maternal grandparents, Mary L. and Walter Hughes, and her paternal grandparents, Elizabeth and William O. Williams.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Dallas Hughes of Beckley; her loving mother, Anna Lovett of Lansing, Michigan; four sisters, Stephanie Hurley of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Patricia Lovett of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Mary Williams of Lansing, Michigan, and Bernadine Lovett of Lansing, Michigan; one brother, Freddy Williams, Jr., of Charlotte, North Carolina; 11 nieces and nephews – Anthony, Thomas, Nathaniel, Amber, Nevarre, Joshua, Kayanna, Marquis, Pierson, Paris, and Price; innumerable other relatives and special friends.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, 12 O’clock noon, at Central Street Baptist Church, Brook and G. Streets, Beckley, with Rev. Brian Copney officiating.
