David Wesley Bowles

ROCK HILL, S.C. — David Wesley Bowles, 59, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at the Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1175 Albright Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

RUPERT — Forrest Ray Childs, 84, of Rupert, died Sept. 24, 2013.

Harold Lloyd Cole

ANSTED — Harold Lloyd Cole, 93, of Ansted, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, in Beckley, W.Va., following a long illness.

Harold was born March 8, 1920, in Jodie, W.Va.; he was the son of the late Frank Summers Cole and Leota Ann Skaggs Cole.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Kathleen Bibb, Hazel McGraw, Lizzie McHenry, Mary Lou Hall, Mabel Sims Wilson, Nellie Eades, Frankie Cole and Sherman Cole.

He worked at Gauley Mountain Coal Co. and was retired from Cannelton Coal Co. He was a member of the UMWA and a member of Beacon Baptist Church at Ansted.

Harold is survived by a daughter, Wilma Fox and Allen of Lansing; two sons, Harold Franklin Cole and Freda of Verona, Ky., and Tilman E. Cole and Linda of Ansted; a sister, Inez Eades of Ansted; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Ansted, with Pastor Clarence Grigsby and Pastor Doug Eades officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of the service Saturday at the funeral home in Ansted.

Adam Blackburn Cooper

HERNSHAW — Adam Blackburn Cooper, premature infant son of Vick Reed Cooper and Matthew Cooper of Hernshaw, W.Va., returned to his Creator in Heaven on Wednesday, October 2, 2013.

Besides his parents, he is survived by grandparents, David and Ellen Reed of Madams Creek, W.Va., Reggie and Brenda Cooper of Cooperstown, W.Va., and Candy and Roger Miles of Kenna, W.Va. He is also survived by great-grandfathers, Cyril Eskew and Hillard Cooper, and two uncles, Michael Reed and R.J. Miles.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Peggy Sue Nutter Fox

ANSTED — Peggy Sue Nutter Fox, 78, of Ansted, died on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at her home.

Born July 28, 1935, at Ansted, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Emory and Beatrice Pauley Nutter.

Peggy was a homemaker.

Her husband, Ashley Fox, a son, Gary Fox, and a sister, Evelyn Stull, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Ruth Steele of Oak Hill, Jimmy Fox of Ansted, Judy Stafford of Ansted, Vickie McMullen of Ames Heights and Steven Fox of Ansted; one sister, Sherry Parrish of Oak Hill; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Fox’s body was donated to the WVU Human Gift Registry in Morgantown. There will be no visitation or service.

Claudia Mae Green

Mrs. Claudia Mae Green, 86, of Fireco, W.Va., died Oct. 3, 2013, after a long illness.

Mrs. Green was born May 30, 1927, in Fairfield, Ala.; she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Dorothy Dorsey.

She was a member of Mount Joy Baptist Church at Fireco. She was a loving, devoted wife and homemaker to her husband.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore R. Green Sr.; a son, Ronald L. Green; a brother, Edward Dorsey; two grandchildren, Charles T. Dixon and Jamie Green; and a son-in-law, Roger E. King.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: two daughters, Betty Rutledge (Bernard) of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Rosetta Green (Andre) of Madison, N.C.; six sons, Thomas Green (Jay) of Brooklyn, N.Y., Theodore R. Green JR. (Billie) of Beckley, James Green (Dionne) of Beckley, Charles Green (ALinda) of Beckley, Donald Green of Fireco, Danny Green (Debbie) of Harper Heights; a daughter-in-law, Karen Green of Jonben, W.Va.; two grandchildren she raised, Coretta and Nikita King of Beckley.

Services will be 12 noon Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Heart of God Ministries, 1703 South Kanawha St., Beckley, with Bishop Fred T. Simms and Elder William Catus officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, W.Va.

Friends may gather with the family from 11 a.m. until time of the services.

 Billy Koontz, 62, of Beckley, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013.

Opal Mae Morgan

ITMANN — Opal Mae Morgan, 75, of Itmann, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at her residence.

Born January 10, 1938, at Simon, she was the daughter of the late Jason and Velvie Maynor Kennedy.

Opal was a homemaker and a loving mother. She loved to sing, go to church, be with her family, and she thought there was nothing her grandkids could do wrong.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Odell Morgan; a son, Rodney Eugene Morgan; two grandsons, Vernal Eugene Hall and Jason Allen Hall; one great-granddaughter, Angel Dawn Mullens; and two brothers, Humphrey Kennedy and Berthal (Mousie) Kennedy.

Those left to cherish her memory include three sons, Larry Morgan and his wife, Joyce, of New Richmond, A.J. Morgan and his wife, Tammy, of Turkey Creek and Vernal Eugene Hall and his wife, Sandy, of Bud; two daughters, LaQuetta Akers and her husband, Melvin, of Itmann and Marcella Carr of Itmann; four brothers, Albert Kennedy and his wife, Bernice, of Simon, Virgil Kennedy and his wife, Rita, of Simon, Greg Kennedy and his wife, Juanita, of Skin Fork, and Preston Kennedy and his companion, Angie, of Skin Fork; three sisters, Debra Hurley and her husband, James, of Rockview, Katherine Walls of Clear Fork and Gloria Hanshaw and her husband, John, of Skin Fork; seven grandsons, Jamie, Shawn, C.J., Joshua, R.J., Brandon and Tanner; six granddaughters, Samantha, Kayla, Chelsea, Amber, Christie and Tiffany; seven great-grandchildren; and three foster grandchildren that she loved like her own.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013, at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Lee Fisher and Brother Irvin Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the Jackson Curve Cemetery, New Richmond, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, son, and grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

HANSFORD — Ms. Ernestine Norman, 68, of Hansford, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013.

Elsie Bernice Reynolds Pack

Elsie Bernice Reynolds Pack, 94, of Beckley, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2013.

Elsie was born March 9, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Reynolds and Maggie Laura Arrington Reynolds.

She was an avid bowler, loved playing cards, and enjoyed traveling. She was a member of the Moose Lodge. She loved spending time with her family. She took great joy in her career, which included several years of service at the old Beckley hospital and 40 years of combined service with Dr. Harold Harvey and, upon his retirement, with his son, Dr. Harold Harvey II.

She was a member of the Zion Primitive Baptist Church.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, James Arnold Pack, whom she married October 2, 1936, her son, Gerald Arnold Pack, three sisters, Minna Belle Kellman, Mildred Grey and Alma Edmonds, and brother, Oscar Reynolds.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Ralph Pack and his wife, Elaine, of Beckley, Glen Pack and his wife, Drema, of Beckley, Janet Louise Demarco and companion Delano Lipscomb, of Williamsport, Maryland, and Margaret Ellen McClaugherty and her husband Howard, of Ellicott City, Md.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, October 13, 2013, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, with Rev. Cleve Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may gather with the family 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013, at the funeral home.

Family members will be serving as pallbearers.
