HARDEEVILLE, S.C. — Paul L. Aliff, age 51, of Hardeeville, formerly of Beckley, passed away on September 28, 2013 of an apparent heart attack.
He was born on December 16, 1961, in Fort Jackson, S.C.
Mr. Aliff is survived by his parents, former Raleigh County Commissioner John Aliff and Wanda Aliff of Beckley, a sister, Liane Aliff of Charlotte, N.C., a nephew Derrick Farruggia and many cousins, aunts, and uncles.
A memorial service will be held at the Calloway Heights Baptist Church in Beckley, on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Bill Parker officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church one hour prior to the services on Thursday.

William E. ‘Billy’ Angell Sr.
MADISON HEIGHTS, Va. — William E. “Billy” Angell Sr., 57, of Madison Heights, Va., formerly of Hinton, died Sunday, October 6, 2013, at 6 a.m. at his home, following a long illness.
Born April 4, 1956, at Hinton he was a son of Betty Jane Arrington Angell of Hinton and the late Bernard B. Angell Sr.
Billy was a 1974 graduate of Hinton High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Hinton and a disabled construction worker.
Besides his mother, Billy is survived by his wife, Tanya Ray Angell at home; three sons, William E. “B.J.” Angell Jr. and wife Staci of Lawrenceville, Ga., Jakob Hunter Angell and Montana Dakota Ray, both at home; one daughter, Shannon Nicole Angell Reynolds and husband Marshall of Amherst, Va.; two grandchildren; one brother, Bernard “B.B.” Angell Jr. and wife Sandra of Hinton and one sister, Beverly J. “Janie” Miller and husband David of Hinton. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013, at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Minister Gary Adkins officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenbrier Burial Park Mausoleum. Friends may call at the funeral parlors 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

She was born July 2, 1938, to the late Frank and Goldie Brown Bench.

Betty Cline, 84, formerly of Man, W.Va., passed away Saturday, October 5 at Rockdale Healthcare Center in Conyers, Ga.
Born July, 27, 1929, in Baileysville, W.Va., she was the daughter of Lee and Rosalie Short.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert Cline and her siblings, Mildred, Raymond and Howard Short.
Betty was an English and Literature teacher in Logan County Schools working at Man Jr. High and Logan Central Jr. High until she retired in 1991. Shortly after retiring, she moved to Snellville, Ga. and became a teacher with Dekalb County Schools. She retired yet again, but continued to substitute teach up until age 80. Betty loved teaching and being with students. She could also be found backstage at The Aracoma Story for several years helping out with anything that needed to be done. Her loving and supportive presence will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Jenni Caruso of Conyers, Ga.; her son, Danny Cline of Charleston, W.Va. and granddaughters, Fiona Caruso and Caitlin Cline.

MINOTOLA, N.J. — Ruby L. (Hood-Waddell) Cobb, 68, of Minotola, a native of Raleigh County, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Inspira Healthcare.
She was born Raleigh County, W.Va. and resided in the Bridgeton area, returned to W.Va. before moving to Minotola four years ago. Mrs. Cobb was a homemaker and loved to decorate her home. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her pet Schnauzer, Sparkle.
She is survived by her son Raymond “Mike” Hood (Kathy) of Vineland, N.J.; daughter, Sherri Paleschic (Chris) of Bridgeton; stepson, Ron Cobb Jr. of Utah; mother, Mary Rose Turner of West Virginia; sister, Betty Burgess of West Virginia; grandchildren, Michael Anthony Hood and David Cossaboon III, and her nursing aide, Sandra Montanez.

Charlotte Lee McQuain Finigan
RINGOES, N.J. — Charlotte Lee McQuain Finigan, 72, of Ringoes, formerly of Rainelle, passed away peacefully Monday, October 7, 2013, at her home following a short illness.
Born June 24, 1940, at Kessler, she was the daughter of the late Charles Roscoe Sr., and Virginia Halsey McQuain.
Charlotte worked as a secretary for RCA and for Selective Insurance Company. She was a member of the First Baptist Church at Rainelle and a member of the Eastern Star. Charlotte was a very hard worker and devoted to her family as a loving sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She brought humor and love to everything that she did.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Nathaniel (Nate) Finigan; five brothers Guy, Earl, Kenny, Pat and Mike McQuain; four sisters Ethel Sittilo, Thelma Black, Shirley McQuain and Halie Cordial and one step-brother Paul Hall.
Survivors include her loving daughter Charlene Seidenschwarz and husband Doug of Flemington, New Jersey; one brother Roscoe McQuain Jr. and wife Penny of Lilly Park, Rainelle; two sisters Betty Dillon and husband Bob of Rosedale, Md. and Gail Hanshew and husband Gary of Green Sulphur; one step-brother George Hall and wife Juanita of Rainelle; two step-sisters Nancy Kennedy and husband John of Philadelphia, Pa. and Frances White and husband Bob of New York; two grandsons Dominick and Charles Seidenschwarz of Flemington, N.J. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Eugene “Skip” Freeman, 69, of Beckley, died Wednesday, October 2, 2013.
Born February 24, 1944, in West Wickham, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Amanda Onion Freeman.
A U.S. Army veteran, Custodian/Maintenance worker at Raleigh County Board of Education, he was a devoted Deacon and member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Lanark, W.Va.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Yvonne Brown and Anita Reed.
Left to cherish precious memories are his loving wife of 39 years, Gloria Carey Freeman; daughters, Kennita Thomas, Consuela Phillips, and Keisha (Damon) Hamby, all of Beckley; brother, Lawrence (Thelma) Freeman of Wilson, N.C.; sister-in-law, Mary Cousins of Lanark; special cousins, Timothy Craighead of Beckley and Rudy Gray of Upper Marlboro, Md.; eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family, and friends.

Jack Richard Givens Sr.
MADAMS CREEK — Jack Richard Givens Sr., 87 of Madams Creek, Hinton, died Monday, October 7, 2013, at Main Street Care, Hinton, following a short illness.
Born February 12, 1926, in Charleston, W.Va., he was the son of the late George and Emma Martin Givens.
Jack was a retired coal miner and member of the United Mine Workers. He was a veteran of the Navy and also the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hinton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Rowsey Givens in 2011. Also by a son, Jack R. Givens Jr. and a sister, Betty Maynard.
Survivors include a daughter, Beatrice Givens and husband Alexander Anderson of Spanaway, Wash.; one brother, George Givens of Jumping Branch; four grandchildren, Amber Parks, Mindy Morales, Jack Givens III and Jamie Doyle and two great grandchildren also survive.

Dalford Gail Harman
PRINCETON — Dalford Gail Harman, 79, of the Old Oakvale, Princeton, departed this life early Monday morning, October 7, 2013, at Princeton Community Hospital.
Born December 28, 1933, at Herndon, he was the son of the late Isaiah W. Harman and Lessie Dell Basham Harman.
Dalford was a graduate of Herndon High School. He had a long career with Appalachian Power with more than 41 years of service, retiring as a Station Supervisor. While his health permitted, he attended Johnston Chapel Baptist Church on the Oakvale Road in Princeton. He was a charter member of the Princeton Rescue Squad. Dalford was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Claude Harman.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Nina Mills Harman, along with three children and their spouses; David and Yvonne Harman of Winston Salem, N.C., Donna Gayle and Ronald Horning of Boarding, Ohio, Gregory and Alysa Harman of Princeton; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and two siblings, Oma Lou and Harry Bailey of Green Cove Springs, Fla. and Lela and Jim McCormick of Princeton.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013, from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with his son, Pastor David Harman officiating with Pastor Jim Simmons assisting. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.

Kyle Jeffrey Huffman Jr., age 31, of Beckley, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013, at Mt. Carmel West Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Born March 28, 1982, in Beckley, he was the son of Teresa A. Weidensall of Bradley and Kyle J. Sr. and Susan L. Huffman of Wayside, W.Va., formerly of Beckley.
He attended school in Beckley and graduated from Fayetteville High School in 2000. He also attended Marshall University and Mountain State University.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Kyle J. Huffman and Joan Allen Huffman of Beckley and his maternal grandparents Carol Weidensall Burdiss, Margaret L. Dawson, Vernie G. Dawson and Goldie M. Lively, all of Beckley.
“Lil Jeff”, “Huff” was an individual who loved his family and loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. He greatly enjoyed NASCAR racing and loved the Marshall Thundering Herd. Football was his favorite pastime; there was no stat for any player he did not know. He was always there to lend a hand; he enjoyed helping others with anything that was needed. All you had to do was ask and he was there.
In his journey in finding his place in life he touched many with his kindness. Jeff was employed with the Kroger Company.
Survivors include the “love of his life” Paula Conkel Salyer of Grove City, Ohio, his parents Teresa A. Weidensall and Tom McNish and Kyle J. Sr. and Susan L. Huffman; siblings, Aimee Coots and her husband, CW, of Wayside, James Huffman and his wife, Crystal, stationed with the U.S. Navy in Gulf Port, Miss., Emilee Von Elling and her husband John, stationed with the US Air Force at Minot Air Force Base, N.D., Jennifer Davis of Hickory, N.C.; Rebecca Rockey and her husband Darrin of Hickory, N.C.; Shannon Conley and her husband Bryan of Fayetteville, W.Va.; nieces and nephews, Kyleigh, Lily and Michael Coots, Keegan, Hannah and Kaytlyn Huffman, Joshua Von Elling, Victoria and Beau Davis, Silas and Sawyer Rockey, Christopher and Caleb Conley and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

DANESE — Lou Gorden Lewis, 72, of Danese, passed away Saturday night, Oct. 5, 2013, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Healthcare of Beckley, following a long illness.
Born April 21, 1941, at Kathryn, (Hemlock), W.Va., he was the son of the late Lemuel and Golda Richardson Lewis. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lou Lewis; second wife, Edna Fitzwater Lewis; a step daughter, Linda Reichard; six brothers, Leo, Fred, Jimmie, Grady, Mason and Dennis Lewis and three infant sons.
Lou was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA and was of the Baptist faith. He loved to go hunting and really enjoyed being outdoors.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Bowman (David) of Florida; a stepson, Charles Lewis of Florida; a sister, Melinda Lewis Migner (Herschel) of Danese; three grandsons of Florida; two great-granddaughters of Florida; a sister-in-law, Doris Ann Lewis of Virginia; special niece, Goldie Lewis Shrewsbury of Beckley; and several nieces and nephews and other extended family.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at the P.A. Shuck Cemetery in Landisburg, with the Rev. Sherman McCombs officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening, Oct. 9, 2013, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle.

SUMMERSVILLE — Mary Elizabeth Paxton, 88, of Summersville, died Sunday, October 6, 2013, in the Summersville Extended Care Center.
She was the daughter of the late Roy and Stella Johnson Smith and was born at Swandale, December 3, 1924.
She was a homemaker and former employee of Wal-Mart and Bright of America in Summersville. Mary was a faithful Christian and member of the Summersville Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her husband Denzel H. Paxton, daughter Patricia Gale Dorsey and brothers James, Bob and Jerry Smith.
Surviving are a son, Gary Paxton of Summersville; two daughters, Carolyn Hope Litton of Gassaway and Lois Groves of Canvas; three sisters, Shirley Smith of Louisiana, Lin Reavis of South Carolina and Kay Mann of Charleston; eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville with Pastor Dana Gatewood officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery at Glade Creek.

Anna Opal Richards
Anna Opal Richards, 90, of Beckley, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2013, at her residence.
Born February 22, 1923, at Island Creek, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Zachariah Taylor and Emma Jane Smith Blankenship. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Mason L. Richards and a grandson, Johnny Isbell. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Anna had a strong devotion to her family and loved the time she was able to spend with them. During World War II she was a Rosie the Riveter making tail fins for bombs for General Machinery Ordinance Corporation at the Naval Ordinance Plant in South Charleston, W.Va. After the war she became a homemaker but worked for a while as a hostess at the Beckley Glass House.
Survivors include her sons, Curt Richards and Troy Richards and his wife Connie, both of Beckley; nephew whom she raised as a son, Paul Isbell and wife Ginny of Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, Patrick and wife Beth Richards of Crab Orchard, Michelle Cochran and husband Brad and Marshall Richards of Beckley and James Isbell; great-grandchildren, Daniel and Allison Richards, Ellen Cochran, Alexandra and Taylor Richards and a special caregiver, Dixie Thompson.
A funeral liturgy will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013, at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, 614 S. Oakwood Ave., Beckley with Monsignor Samuel Sacus officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley.
