Frances I. Bright

MULLENS — Frances Iowa Bright, 88, of Mullens passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Highland Avenue Baptist Church, Mullens. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Delmont Farmer

Delmont Farmer, aged 83, of Crab Orchard, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at Golden Harvest Nursing facility in Welch following an extended illness.

Born the 30th day of July 1930 in Crab Orchard, WV, a son to the late Jasper and Mauldie Farmer.

Mr. Farmer held a career as a professional chef and owned his own restaurant in New Castle, Delaware. He was also an avid fisherman.

Along with his parents, those who precede him in death include his wife, Debra Farmer; and daughter, Sharon James.

Survivors include a son, Delmont Farmer, Jr., of New Castle, Delaware; daughter, Yvonne Collins of New Richmond; sisters, Della Mae Farmer, residing in Hinton, and Glorene Gross; brothers, Randolph, Clarence, and Junior Farmer; special granddaughter and care giver, Amanda Durkee; and along with 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

In keeping with Delmont’s final wishes, he was cremated.

Memorial Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley with Rev. Dave Collins officiating.

Evening of visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until time of service at the funeral chapel.

Henry David Mullens

NETTIE — Henry David Mullens, 62, of Nettie died Friday, Sept. 27, 2013.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the White Funeral Home at Summersville with the Revs. Tim Scott and Leotis Ward officiating. Interment will follow in the Ward Road Cemetery at Nettie. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Carolyn Sue Roach

SUMMERSVILLE — Carolyn Sue Roach, 66, of Summersville passed away Friday, September 27, 2013, in the Summersville Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

She was the daughter of Millie Rider Sparks of Summersville and the late John Paul Sparks and was born at Enon December 21, 1946.

She was a graduate of Nicholas County High School and a dedicated employee of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources for 37 years, having retired in 2004. Sue was a loving, devoted wife and mother. She was a faithful Christian having attended Central Baptist and Enon Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her mother: Husband of 35 years, Charles; Son Dr. Ron Sparks of West Hollywood, California; 2 Brothers Reggie Sparks and wife Helen of Gilboa and Gene Sparks and wife Jane of Summersville; Nieces: Sherri Francisco and husband Brian, Janelle Cornell and husband Dustin all of Summersville, Teresa Burdette and husband Ted of Muddlety, Jennifer Shelton and husband Mike Hinson of Locust, North Carolina.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville with Rev. William Johnson and Rev. Kenny Hayes officiating. Entombment will follow in the WV Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Calvin.

Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 12 noon until service time on Tuesday.

Helen Minerva McCormick Smith

KINCAID — Helen Minerva McCormick Smith, age 100, of Kincaid, WV, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV.

Born March 17, 1913, at Poplar Gap, Putnam County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Charles Berry and Mary Talithia Meddings McCormick.

Helen was a homemaker and a longtime resident of Kincaid, WV.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Alton Smith on June 13, 1983, by a son, Roy Junior Smith of Kincaid, WV, by five daughters, Betty Jane Smith Lively of Strongville, OH, Mary Lou Smith Myers of Kincaid, WV, Goldie Marie Smith Stapus of Phoenix, AZ, Helen Ruth Smith Sizemore of Glen Morgan, WV, Virginia Ellen Smith Hodges of Cleveland, OH. Also preceding her in death were four brothers, Lyle Forrest McCormick, William Sylvester McCormick, James Bernard McCormick and Charles Clifford McCormick, by three sisters, Mary Ann McCormick, Willie Mae McCormick Smith and Ruth Frances McCormick. Helen was the last surviving member of her brothers and sisters.

Surviving are her children, Six sons, Charles Edward Smith of Kincaid, WV, Darrell Allen Smith of Cleveland, OH, George Robert Smith of Elyria, OH, Ray Alvin Smith of Glen Jean, WV, Billy Lee Smith of Red Star, WV, John Leslie Smith of Kincaid, WV, two daughters, Beulah Pearl Smith Schnake of Pontiac, MI, and Reba Jean Smith Sayers of Hill Top, WV. Also surviving are 37 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, 6 stepgreat-grandchildren and one self-appointed grandson, David Miller of Prudence, WV.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at the Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, WV, with Pastor Brandon Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Kincaid Cemetery at Kincaid, WV.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2013.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Kenneth L. Thompson

ARLINGTON, Va. — Mr. Kenneth L. Thompson, of Arlington, Va., formerly of McDowell County, passed away Sept. 25, 2013.

Paul Trump

On Saturday, Sept. 28th, 2013, after a long and fruitful life, Paul Trump, the community of Bolt’s oldest living resident, passed away at the age of 101 years, eight months and 14 days.

Born on a Sunday, January 14th, 1912, on the farm where he has lived for the past century, Grover Paul Trump was the son of Grover Cleve and Hallie Calloway Trump. One of nine children, he is the last survivor of his immediate family.

Paul worked in mining and construction. He loved farming. Although the infirmities of old age were beginning to set in, Paul’s illness was sudden. He was very sharp and enjoyed being at his home surrounded by family.

His first marriage was to Martha Clay, who would die in childbirth with their first child. Paul would then marry Ernie Jesse Allen. To this union were born six children. After 49 years of marriage, Ernie died on August 5th, 1987. Their son, Prentis Paul Trump, has passed away as well as a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Diane Payne Trump.

Paul leaves to cherish his memory his surviving children, Ronnie Bruce Trump and his wife, Hilda, of Spotsylvania, VA, Elbert “Jack” Trump and his wife, Lori, of Bolt, William “Bill” Trump of Bolt, Danny Wayne Trump and his wife, Ennice, of Bolt, Regina Ann Trump Milam and her husband Darrell of Prince George, Va., and Paul’s wife, Phyllis Griffith Trump of Fairdale.

Paul was the dear “Papa” to Robin Trump Daniel, Mark Trump, Jeff Trump, Kenny Trump, Dwight Eugene “Lucky” Trump, Jackson Levi Trump, Cassie Lilly, Grant Lilly, Lisa Trump Jacobs, Teresa Trump, Tracy Trump, Danny Paul Trump, David Trump, Wesley Trump, Nancy Wyatt, and Doug Milam; he was “Old Papa and Big Papa” to 26 great-grandchildren.

On Tuesday, Oct. 1st, at 1 p.m., there will be a “Service of Remembrance” at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Dewey Lowe will be officiating. Paul will then be taken back to Bolt and laid to rest in the Trump Family Cemetery. And now, “Oh Glad Reunion.”

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the service hour. Paul’s Grandsons will carry him to his rest.
