William Boyko

William Boyko, age 88, of Prosperity, West Virginia, died Sunday, September 5, 2010, at his home, his fortress, which he fought for and protected for 60 years.

Born on August 18, 1922, at East Beckley, WV, he was the son of the late Mike Boyko and Anna Boyko Quesenberry.

Mr. Boyko was a former employee in newspaper printing, and was last employed by Purity Maid Bakery in Beckley, WV. He was of the Baptist faith, and had made his home in Prosperity for the past 60 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy May Boyko, by a daughter, Lucy Cynthia Boyko, by a sister, Annie Campbell, by brothers, Harry, Jack, Rex, Clyde, and Earl.

Surviving are his children: Carrie Halliwell and her husband Roger of Prosperity, WV; William R. Boyko and his wife Freda Ann of Sandbranch, WV; Willis Boyko of Prosperity, WV.

Brothers, Fred Quesenberry and his wife Lucy of Beckley, WV, and Amos Quesenberry and his wife Sherron of Shady Spring, WV.

Sister: Frances Mannino and her husband Frank of Lititz, Pennsylvania.

8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, West Virginia, on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Fred Lovell officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. Friends may call one hour prior to the services. Online condolences may be sent to our guestbook at www.roseandquesenberry.net. Jerri Laine England

OAK HILL — Jerri Laine England, 56, daughter of Norma Jean England and the late Bryson England, went to be with the Lord September 4, 2010. Her desire was to join her son, Billy.

She was preceded in death by her two sons, Phillip William England and William Russell England; and grandmother, Veda “Mommy” Doles.

Besides her mother, she is survived by five sisters and five brothers: Joy Acree and husband, Ron, of Chester, VA, Cynthia Smith of Parkton, NC, Teresa Stevens of Asheboro of NC, Melinda McCloud and husband, Frankie, of Bowling Green, KY, Candie England of Fayetteville, WV; Bryson England, Jr., of Mineral Wells, WV, Kevin England of Milan, MI, Robbie England of Fayetteville, WV, Mark England and wife, Pamela, of Oak Hill, WV, and Eric England of Russell Springs, KY; and three dear friends, Phyllis Holly, Emmy Proskin, and Johnnie “Dan” Mann.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Rev. Mack Canterbury officiating. Burial will follow at the Odd Fellow Cemetery, Oak Hill.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

June Griffith

OCEANA — June Griffith, 84, of Oceana, passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.

Services will be Wednesday at Palm Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Matheny, with the Rev. Tommy Knotts officiating. Per June’s request there will be no visitation and she also requested there be no flowers.

Nancy Evelyn Burgess Hendrickson

OAK HILL — Nancy Evelyn Burgess Hendrickson of Decatur, Ga., formerly of Oak Hill, passed away Aug. 31, 2010.

Joanne Landy

Joanne Landy, formerly of Stickney, WV, died Sunday, September 5, 2010, at Sherry’s Private Home Care in Daniels, WV, following a long illness.

She was born in Rivesville, WV, a daughter of the late Walter and Emma Smith.

Joanne grew up in Ameagle, WV, and attended Clear Fork High School. She lived in WV most of her life and enjoyed working with many charity organizations and helping children. Mrs. Landy was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Ladies Auxiliary and VFW. She was a former secretary and treasurer of the Marsh Fork Pee Wee and Midget Football League, and a member of the Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe “Moe” Landy Jr., and a son, Fredrick; a granddaughter, Shawna, and her brother, Charles R. Smith.

She is survived by two sons, Paul Landy of Daniels, WV, and John Landy of Sutton; stepson, Larry Massey of Bridgeport, and a daughter, Mary Ann Jenkins of Sutton; three grandchildren, Joseph, Jodi and Tammy, and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon, September 9, 2010, at 1 o’clock in the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, WV, with Pastor David Minturn. Interment will be in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, WV.

Visitation will be 2 hours before the service at the funeral home.

Elder Kenna E. Lilly

Elder Kenna E. Lilly, age 98, of Beckley, West Virginia, departed this life and entered his heavenly home on Sunday, September 5, 2010, at the Heartland of Beckley Nursing Home following a long illness.

Born on February 7, 1912, at Ellison, West Virginia, Elder Lilly was the son of the late Elder Eli Lilly and Cora J. Clark Lilly.

Elder Lilly was a faithful servant in the Primitive Baptist Ministry for more than 50 years, having been the pastor and a member of the Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church in Beaver, and had served as a Moderator of the Indian Creek Association for many years. He was licensed to preach in 1950 and was ordained in 1952 to the full work of the ministry, and was well received in all states and churches he had spoken to. Elder Lilly traveled extensively preaching the word of Jesus Christ. He believed a calling from God was the greatest gift ever given to man. His ministry had traveled him into 7 states. He was a former real estate salesman with 16 years of service for the Lilly Land Company, and last served as office manager. He was from a family of 10 siblings.

Elder Lilly was preceded in death by his loving wife of 73 years, Stella Cox Lilly, by brothers, Ralph Lilly and Carlos Lilly, by sisters, Lena Cox, Gladys Cox, Malinda Lane, and Lola Thompson.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Arnyst Lilly and his wife Nancy of Beckley, West Virginia;

Brothers, Josiah Lilly of Cool Ridge, West Virginia, and Kelso Lilly and his wife Thelma of Beckley, West Virginia. A sister, Judith Lane of Cool Ridge, West Virginia;

4 grandchildren: Arnyst Lilly II and his wife Michelle of Glade Springs, Daniels, WV; Aaron Lilly of Beckley, WV; Sabrina Ballard of Mount Hope, WV; Michelle Whitmer and her husband Ralph of Midland, Virginia;

7 great-grandchildren, Anthony Ballard and his wife Noel of South Charleston; Abbie Ballard of Tennessee; Olivia Ballard of Sandbranch Road; Jessie Whitmer of Midland, Virginia; Jared Lilly of Daniels, WV; Kendall Lilly of Daniels, WV; Trevor Lilly of Beckley, WV. He is also survived by one great-great-grandson, Mason Ballard of South Charleston, WV.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, West Virginia, on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at 3 p.m. with Elder Jerry McGrady officiating. Burial will follow at the Cox Cemetery at Jumping Branch, WV. Friends may call one hour prior to the services on Wednesday. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Ronnie Eugene Pack Sr.

MOUNT HOPE — Ronnie Eugene Pack, Sr., age 63, of Mt. Hope passed away Sunday, September 5, 2010, following a sudden illness.

Born June 13, 1947, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Fredrick Pack and Mary (Gray) Pack.

Mr. Pack was an avid outdoorsman and mostly enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family. He was a retired union carpenter and was employed as a contractor consultant for the Raleigh County Board of Education and was also past President of International Carpenters Local Union # 1911. He was very loyal to his work and most of all his family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Fred Pack.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Gloria Nelson Pack, at home; son Ronnie Pack and wife Michele of Prosperity; daughter Angela Metrick and husband Rex of Beckley; grandchildren Riley Pack, Lainey Pack, Chris Metrick, and Brittney Metrick; brothers Greg Pack of Maple Fork, Bruce Pack of Beckley, James Pack of Beckley; sisters Kathy Perdue of Coal City, Pat Meadows of Maple Fork, Barbara Vance of Maple Fork, and Dorena Pack of Beckley; and a host of other family and friends.

Graveside services and interment for Mr. Pack will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity with Pastor Mike Gunnoe officiating.

Friends may gather with the family from noon until service time on Wednesday at the cemetery.

ALDERSON — Harry Lewis Presock Jr., 80, of Alderson, formerly of Latrobe, Pa., went to be with the Lord Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a long illness.

Delilah Gay ‘Lyle’ Reed

OCEANA — Delilah Gay “Lyle” Reed, 91, departed this life Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, following a long illness.

A celebration of Mrs. Reed’s life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Sept. 7, at the funeral home.

Glenn Lloyd Todd

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Glenn Lloyd Todd, 76, entered into rest on Sunday, September 5, 2010, with his wife and children at his side.

Mr. Todd, born on July 18, 1934, in Orgas, West Virginia, was the third son of Lonnie Curtis Todd and Nellie (Simmons) Todd. He was a 1953 graduate of Trap Hill High School. Mr. Todd served his country with great pride and honor in the United States Army, serving during the time of the Korean Conflict. After retiring from the Army, Mr. Todd spent his time in Michigan, employed as a tool and dye technician. In 2004, he attended his high school reunion, where he was reunited with his high school sweetheart, Barbara Athey. They married on September 11, 2004. Mr. Todd is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Bobby Todd; first wife, Joan League; and second wife, Helen Russell.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Barbara Athey Todd, Warner Robins; sons, Greg and Brian Todd, Lester, WV; granddaughter, Briannah Todd, Lester; brothers, Larry Todd (Brenda), Beckley, WV, and Harry Todd (Ellen), Shady Spring, WV; stepchildren, Fredrick Thomas, Warner Robins; Pamela Brazell (David), Norcross; seven stepgrandchildren; and three great-stepgrandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Parkway Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
