Jayce Christopher Li’Yem Reid Smith

Jayce Christopher Li’Yem Reid Smith, seven-day-old infant, born March 20, 2014, to March 27, 2014, passed away at CAMC Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Charleston, WV.

Jayce leaves to cherish his memories are parents Ci’Erra Smith, mother, and Joseph Reid, father, of Beckley, WV. Grandparents, Kesha Holliday, Keith Smith, Crystal Hinzman and Dwayne Meadows.

Great-grandparents are David Hinzman, Rebecca Hinzman, Willia Barnhart and Clarence Manns, Graci Kidd, and Arnold Kidd. Honorable mention ReShay L. H. Smith, aunt; Melinie Hinzman, aunt; and David Hinzman, Jr., uncle. A host of family and friends.

Graveside rites will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Park with Pastor Walter Clay and Pastor Walter M. Leach officiating.

John Perry Thornquest

PAX — John Perry Thornquest, age 80, of, Pax, W.Va., passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.

Born on December 18, 1933, at Mabscott, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert Thornquest and Ruth Capitola Thornquest.

Mr. Thornquest was retired from the U.S. Army with 20 years of service, having served in Korea and Germany. He was a former coal miner at the Eccles Coal Mines and the Heartland of Beckley Nursing Home. 

Mr. Thornquest was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and Randy Thornquest, by a brother, Emory, by a sister Peggy DeHart, and by one great-grandchild, Aaron Mobley.

Surviving are his children, Rusty (Marie) Thornquest of Maple Fork, Ricky (Lou Ann) Thornquest, Ronald (Cindy) Thornquest, Roger Thornquest, Rodney McGraw, and Darla Mobley, all of Pax. Brothers, Donald (Karol) Thornquest of Sophia, and Paul (Linda) Thornquest of Beckley; sisters, Sara (Jack) Williams of Beckley, Judith Thornquest of Melbourne, Fla., and Sherry Shockney of Shady Spring; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive.

At his request, there will be no visitation or funeral services.
