Mary Ileen Kidd Cutlip

HILLSBORO — Mary Ileen Kidd Cutlip, 87, of Hillsboro died March 21, 2014.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, at VanReenen Funeral Home, Marlinton. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.



Prudence Elwinger Fox

Born in Rochester, MN, March 2, 1935, the heart, soul, and captain of the family went to be with her heavenly love — the Lord God, on Friday, March 21, 2014, at Autumn Way, Inc. Assisted Living, in Rupert, WV.

Continuously, she gifted to all she knew her enduring spiritual light, her genuine and generous love, and ever glowing smile. She adored church music, crochet, painting, flowers, birds and her friends in WV and across the country.

Prudence was preceded in death by her parents Louise Mayo and George Trenholm, a sister Mayo Kooiman, and a brother George Elwinger.

Prudence is survived by her husband Jack Eugene Fox, her son Joseph Clinton Fox and wife Yvette Fox, and grandson Jackson Matthew Fox and great-grandson Julian Matthew Fox and granddaughter Chelsea Lynn Fox; daughter Cynthia Louise Barney and husband Stephen A Barney, grandson Joseph Tyler Contarino, grandson William Contarino; daughter Rita Mayo Fox and her friend Don Swearingen, grandson Daniel Patrick Flynn and granddaughter Rhiannon Mayo Hayes and husband Bill Hayes; daughter Judith Marie Cole and her husband David Cole, grandson Dylan Conor Cole and granddaughter Amelia Mary Louise Cole.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 27, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Lewisburg with Father Josh Saxe. Entombment will follow at Greenbrier Memorial Gardens at Lewisburg.

McCraw Funeral Home in Lewisburg is in charge of arrangements.



Mildred Louise Simpkins Kirk

RICH CREEK, Va. — Mildred Louise Simpkins Kirk, 79, of Rich Creek Va., passed away March 22, 2014.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, at the First United Methodist Church of Rich Creek with Pastor Doug Hyndrich officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek, Va. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 24, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown.

In lieu of flowers you may make donations in her memory to the memorial fund at the First UMC of Rich Creek, VA 24147, or the charity of your choice.

Joseph Meadows

Joseph Meadows, 77, of Shady Spring, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014.

Arrangements are pending completion at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel, 729 Flat Top Road, Shady Spring.



Leo Porreca

Leo Porreca age 76, of Beckley passed away Friday, March 21st, 2014, after a short illness.

Born July 19th, 1937, in Charleroi, PA, he was the son of Rosina and Anthony Porreca.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly, and a brother, Anthony.

Leo valued his family and God above all else. He was always happy and loved to tell jokes and stories to make people laugh. Leo was always a pleasure to be around and he leaves a legacy of laughter and love. He will be missed by many.

Leo served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves. He graduated from Charleroi High School in 1955. He worked in sales for Lee-Norse Company and Phillips Machine for 50 years.

He was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Church where he was an usher. Leo was an active member of the Knights of Columbus holding the 3rd Degree.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 53 years, Darlene; son, Mark Porreca and wife, Wendy, of Bowling Green, KY; brother, Donald and wife, Sherryn, of Grandview; sister, Gena Squarcia and her husband, Paul, of Plymouth, MA; brother-in-law, Jack Stephenson and wife, Cheryl, of Pittsburgh; he also leaves behind his grandchildren: Shawn Sims and companion, Ashley, of Beckley, Jennifer Rose Porreca and companion, Matt Burke, of Chicago, Michelle and Katherine Porreca of Chicago, Krystle Crese of Beckley. Leo’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the loves of his life and he was happiest when he was around them. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to thank the Phillips family of employees for their love and concern, especially Tom Cushman and others way too numerous to mention. Their calls and acts of kindness meant so much to Leo.

The family received friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 23rd, at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. There was a scripture service at 8:30 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, March 24th, at 11 a.m. at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Monsignor Samuel Sacus and Fr. Pen will be the celebrants, assisted by Rev. Mr. William Donald Wise and Rev. Mr. John F. Ziolkowski. The Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Sebastian Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Mark Porreca, Shawn Sims, Scott Stephenson, Don Porreca, Tom Cushman, Jack Stephenson, Lew Savisky, John E. Voloski and Joe Voloski.

James ‘Jim’ Willis Roush Jr.

STONY BOTTOM — James “Jim” Willis Roush Jr., 69, of Stony Bottom died March 22, 2014.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be at 1 p.m. March 29 at Alexander Memorial with graveside services to follow. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Gary Pickens and the Rev. Gary Price. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 28, at Alexander Memorial Presbyterian Church in Stony Bottom.

Roberta Carol Walker of Beckley, formerly of Odd, died Saturday, March 22, 2014.
