Russell Clair Bennett
LAKE PARK, Fla. — Russell Clair Bennett, 95, of Lake Park, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, West Palm Beach, Fla., following a long illness.
Born November 18, 1918, in Jumping Branch, W.Va., he was the son of the late Elbert P. and Eunice Mooney Bennett. Mr. Bennett was a United States Army Veteran having served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theater and worked as an automobile repair mechanic.
Preceded in death by three brothers, Curtis, Carl and Charles Bennett, and one sister, Mary Cantrell.
Survived by his granddaughter with whom he made his home, Sherri Richmond of Lake Park, Fla.; grandson, Roy Richmond of Elkton, Md.; three sisters, Esther Fitzsimmons of Centerville, Ohio, Edna Bennett of Covington, Va., and Betty Agee of Bartlett, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 12 noon on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral parlors.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Edward Quinn Canterbury
Edward Quinn Canterbury, 77, of Beckley passed away Friday, March 7, 2014, with his family by his side at the Beckley VA Medical Center following a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Mr. Canterbury was born December 30, 1936, to Walter Camden Canterbury and Minnie Lee Quinn Canterbury. Mr. Canterbury grew up on Johnstown Road in Beckley along with his two sisters Lou Ann Canterbury Driscoll and Rosemary Canterbury Craft. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps, in which he served 4 years and many years in the reserves.
Mr. Canterbury married Jerry Lee Harrah in 1958 and became the father of two children, his daughter, Jane Canterbury Pereira of Beckley, and son, Edward Mark Canterbury of Cincinnati, OH.
Mr. Canterbury was a self-employed contractor and business owner in Beckley his entire life. He was the first to bring the Nissan, Toyota and Subaru dealerships to Beckley in the ’60s. Mr. Canterbury owned and developed many businesses and properties throughout the Beckley and Raleigh County areas. He attended the Calloway Heights Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family who considered him a “workaholic” and an avid fan of West Virginia University Sports. Mr. Canterbury will be remembered by all for his hard work and generosity to those in need.
Mr. Canterbury is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jerry Lee Harrah Canterbury, his daughter, Jane Canterbury Pereira, and son, Edward Mark Canterbury. Grandsons, Ryan Robert Pereira and wife Valerie of Beckley, Camden Edward Canterbury of Cincinnati, OH. Granddaughters, Jessica Rees Dorsey and husband Ben of Beckley and Madison Brook Fleming of Cincinnati, OH. A sister, Rosemary Canterbury Craft of Virginia, brother-in-law, Jim Driscoll of Virginia, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Minnie Canterbury, 2 infant brothers, a sister Lou Ann Canterbury Driscoll and a nephew Charles Craft.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bill Parker officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Beckley. Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, nephews and friend of the family.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Operation Underdog c/o Sharon Masula, P.O. Box 10, Cool Ridge, WV 25825, or Raleigh County Humane Society at 325 Gray Flats Road, Beckley, WV 25801, for the care and needs of the many homeless animals in Raleigh County.
