Edward Canterbury

Edward Canterbury, 77, of Dexter Avenue, Beckley, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014.

Arrangements are pending completion at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, 1901 S. Kanawha St., Beckley.

Harold Junior Cave

Mr. Harold Junior Cave, 84, of Beckley died Sunday, March 2, 2014, after a long illness.

Born May 17, 1929, in Beckley, WV, he was the son of the late Roy and Janie Cox Cave. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Cave served in the Marines and retired from Richmond Cleaners after many years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers, sisters, and other relatives.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, at Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel, 748 So. Fayette St., Beckley, with Rev. Thomas Steelman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.

Darrell Dawson

Darrell Dawson of Mabscott died tragically on Sunday, Feb. 23rd, 2014, of injuries received in an automobile accident in Bristol, TN. He was 81 years of age. His loving wife, Connie, was seriously injured.

The youngest of two children, Dennis Darrell Dawson was born on January 3rd, 1933, at Mabscott. He was the son of the late Sam and Eva Bailey Dawson. Darrell was the fond brother of Janice Hylton of Beckley, who survives him.

A lifelong resident of the Mabscott community, Darrell, as he was affectionately known, worked in the bakery industry for 33 years. He was branch manager for Betsy Ross Bakeries and retired as the operations manager for Flowers Baking Company. Darrell was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He attended the Oak Grove Christian Church.

Darrell and Connie were blessed with two children, a son, Brad Dawson and his wife, Leah, of Flatwoods, KY, and Mary Jane May and her husband, John, of Kodak, TN; Darrell was the dear grandfather of J.C. May (Emilee), and Aaron May (Amanda), Lauren Conley and Nicholas Dawson; the proud great-grandfather of three great-grandchildren, Devan Oglesby, Collin and Dillon May.

Committal services will be Sunday, March 9th, at 4 p.m. in the Oak Grove Christian Church Cemetery. Pastor Kelly Gowan will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Melton Mortuary, 1200 Harper Road, Beckley. Those wishing to attend the committal services are asked to be at the mortuary by 3:30 p.m.
