Carlos Allen

On Wednesday, March 5th, 2014, Carlos Allen of Glen Daniel passed away at the Bowers Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. He was 79 years of age.

Born July 26th, 1934, he was the son of the late Jim and Leola Cook Allen. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Geneva Bailey and Geraldine Belcher; son, Michael Allen; and an infant daughter, Sandra Kay Allen.

Carlos was a member of the Local 7692 and worked 35 years in the coal industry in prep plants and operating heavy equipment. He was one of the organizers of the Trap Hill Fire Department and was a former fire chief.

Carlos loved life and enjoyed working with his equipment and helping others. He was a giver to all mankind.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Libby Cook Allen; Three daughters, Debbie (Terry) Lester of Brenton, Mary Jo (Bobby Hamilton of Beckley, Michelle (Kevin) Holstein of Pine Branch; Son, Ronnie Allen of Beckley; A sister, Marie (Ralph) Woodby; Fifteen grandchildren, Shannon Haynes, Terri Morgan, Matt Lester, Travis Allen, Jamie Allen, Jessica Allen, Nicky Massey, Zachary Hedgecock, Joseph Hamilton, April Mitchem, Ronnie Allen, Amanda Massey, Joseph Allen, Treston Holstein, and Heaven Holstein; twelve great-grandchildren and one due in April; a very special great-niece, Ella Cook of East Bank; and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be Sunday, March 9th, at 1 p.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Pastors Ardeth Bailey and Dewey Lowe will be officiating. Carlos will be laid to rest in the Allen Cemetery at Bolt. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the mortuary and one hour prior to the services on Sunday. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Southern West Virginia and the staff of the Bowers Hospice House, Larry and Lucille Wright, and Tom Collins for their help, care and concerns.

Ana Szilaghi-Bazilescu

EDMOND — Ana Szilaghi-Bazilescu of Edmond, WV, went to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on March 4, 2014, at 4:50 p.m., in Las Vegas, NV, after a short and unexpected illness.

She is survived by her son Horia Bazilescu, Romania, and her daughters Monica Lemons of Edmond, WV, and Ortansa Musat of Henderson, NV, 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Faith Community Church, Beckley, WV.

Lucille Mae Manley Blake

FAYETTEVILLE — Lucille Mae Manley Blake, 85, of Fayetteville, WV, went to be with Jesus and our Daddy the love of her life, on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV.

Born October 9, 1928, at Brownsville, IN, she was the daughter of the late William Emil and Stella Mae Baughn Manley.

Mrs. Blake was a member of the Gatewood Brethren Church. She was a homemaker.

The family would like to extend their thanks to 1st Floor and ICU at Plateau Medical Center and Dr. Ryan Newell for the care they provided our mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Shelbern Lee Blake; son, Robert Lonnie Blake; daughter-in-law, Emogene Blake; brothers, Paul (infant), Earl (infant), Thomas Glen, Francis “Lee,” Walter, Harlow, Ray, William Eugene and Calvin Manley; great-grandson, Jack Walker Redin; and great-great-granddaughter, Florence Irvine.

She is survived by a loving family which include four sons, Emmel Blake of Ray City, GA, Thomas “Tommy” Blake and wife, Tammy, of Saint Marys, Edward “Eddie” Blake and wife, Ella, of Fayetteville and Delbert Blake and wife, Anne, of Indialantic, FL; four daughters, Deloris Mitchem and husband, Ellis, of Fairdale, Judy Helm of Hopewell, VA, Rose Renkovish and husband, Bill, of Oak Hill and Melinda Blake of Hopewell, VA; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Blake; and one sister, Virginia Miller of Grafton, WV.

She is also survived by 25 grandchildren, host of great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Monday, March 10, 2014, at 12 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Robert Pauley, Pastor Scott Lester, Pastor Tom Blake, and Pastor Delbert Walker officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, on Sunday, March 9, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

William Albert ‘Bill’ Bollenbach

CLAYTON — William Albert “Bill” Bollenbach, 81, of Clayton, formerly of Kemblesville, Pa., passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Monday, March 10, at the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church, Alderson, with the Rev. Dr. Bill Bryan and the Rev. Mark Stauffer officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 10, at the church.

David I. Bower

TROUTVILLE, Va. — David I. Bower, 81, of Troutville, Virginia, died Thursday, March 6, 2014.

He was the son of the late Orren T. and Sallie M. Bower and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lester (Pete) Bower and Orville Bower; and a nephew, Donnie Bower.

Mr. Bower was an active member of Southview United Methodist Church since 1960 and the Crusaders Sunday School Class as well as the U.M.M. He was a Past Master of the Melrose Masonic Lodge No. 139, Catawba Masonic Lodge No. 342, and Webber High Masonic Lodge No. 282. He was a Past District Deputy Grand Master for the 22nd Masonic District and an Honorary member of Pleasants Masonic Lodge No. 63, Past High Priest of Murray Royal Arch Chapter No. 22, and Past Commander of Bayard Commandery No. 15. He was a member of the Roanoke Valley Scottish Rite Bodies, a 33rd IGH, and a member of Kazim Shrine Temple. He was a retired transportation engineer with VDOT after 36 years of service. Mr. Bower was an avid woodworker who gave away his original pieces as gifts to family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alda M. Foster Bower; daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and J.C. Williams; daughter, Jeanetta Fisher; four grandchildren, Susan Via (David) Campbell, Sheila Fisher (Chad) Hughes, David Russell (Leanne) Fisher and Angela Williams (David) Henderlite; five great-granddaughters, Morganne Campbell, Maura and Avery Hughes, Emily and Ryleigh Fisher; five great-grandsons, William Campbell, Brayden Hughes, Russell Fisher, Martin and Matthew Henderlite; two brothers and four sisters-in-law, Cecil and Sue Bower, Darrell and Lena Bower, Mattie Bower, and Phyllis Bower Denlinger; one sister and brother-in-law, Elma Jane and John Sowers; and several nieces, nephews, family friends and neighbors. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Gentle Shepherd Hospice, especially Joanna Asselin (RN), for their care and support.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 10, 2014, at Southview United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. Masonic Rites will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Oakey’s North Chapel. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey’s North Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the Church.

Edward Canterbury, 77, of Dexter Avenue, Beckley, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014.

Harold Junior Cave

Mr. Harold Junior Cave, 84, of Beckley died Sunday, March 2, 2014, after a long illness.

Born May 17, 1929, in Beckley, WV, he was the son of the late Roy and Janie Cox Cave. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Cave served in the Marines and retired from Richmond Cleaners after many years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers, sisters, and other relatives.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, at Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel, 748 So. Fayette St., Beckley, with Rev. Thomas Steelman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Darrell Dawson

Darrell Dawson of Mabscott died tragically on Sunday, Feb. 23rd, 2014, of injuries received in an automobile accident in Bristol, TN. He was 81 years of age. His loving wife, Connie, was seriously injured.

The youngest of two children, Dennis Darrell Dawson was born on January 3rd, 1933, at Mabscott. He was the son of the late Sam and Eva Bailey Dawson. Darrell was the fond brother of Janice Hylton of Beckley, who survives him.

A lifelong resident of the Mabscott community, Darrell, as he was affectionately known, worked in the bakery industry for 33 years. He was branch manager for Betsy Ross Bakeries and retired as the operations manager for Flowers Baking Company. Darrell was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He attended the Oak Grove Christian Church.

Darrell and Connie were blessed with two children, a son, Brad Dawson and his wife, Leah, of Flatwoods, KY, and Mary Jane May and her husband, John, of Kodak, TN; Darrell was the dear grandfather of J.C. May (Emilee), and Aaron May (Amanda), Lauren Conley and Nicholas Dawson; the proud great-grandfather of three great-grandchildren, Devan Oglesby, Collin and Dillon May.

Committal services will be Sunday, March 9th, at 4 p.m. in the Oak Grove Christian Church Cemetery. Pastor Kelly Gowan will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Melton Mortuary, 1200 Harper Road, Beckley. Those wishing to attend the committal services are asked to be at the mortuary by 3:30 p.m.

Randall Earl Foster, of Beckley, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014.

Ila Belle Hamons

Ila Belle Hamons, 85, of Beckley, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley following a sudden illness.

She was born on the 25th day of February in 1929 at Greeneville, WV. She was a daughter to the late Solomon Sullivan Fisher and Nellie Broyles Fisher.

Ms. Hamons was a homemaker and had a passion for reading, gardening, and sewing. She also enjoyed cooking and was known to make the best hot rolls. She was also a member of Stanaford Road Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Sidney Hamons, Sr.; and a brother, Mark Fisher.

Those left behind to carry on her legacy include her children, Flora Moye and husband Danny Ray of Lost Creek, WV, Jr. Hamons and wife Patricia of Beckley, Gloria Worley and husband Roger of Mathias, WV, Karen Benton and husband Jeff of Beckley, and Bruce Wayne Hamons of Beckley; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren also survive her.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lyell Zickafoose officiating and Paul Campbell with musical selections. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

Friends of the family will serve as pallbearers.

A visitation will be held at Blue Ridge Funeral Home on Saturday from the hours of 5 to 7 p.m.
