Earl S. ‘Poo’ Miller
Earl S. “Poo” Miller, 84, of Beckley, went to see the Lord the 23rd day of September 2012, from a terminal illness.
Earl Miller was born July 8, 1928 in Ronceverte, W. Va., to Clarence and Estelle Miller. He had a total of 8 siblings, 3 sisters and 5 brothers.
Mr. Miller was a dedicated member of St. Matthew AME Church of Beckley. He married the late Janice L. Miller on October 6, 1956.
They had three lovely children and they enjoyed 53 wonderful years together. Earl was drafted into the military in 1951 where he served in the Korean Conflict. After a severe injury he received an honorable discharged and awarded the Purple Heart. To provide an exceptional life for his family he held numerous careers. Mr. Miller was a postman and janitor in Washington, D.C.; a police officer in Sutton, W.Va., and a carpenter. Being a master of carpentry, he went on to become a entrepreneur and owned his own construction business. Mr. Miller not only saw this as his career, but a hobby.
Mr. Miller is survived by children, Melissa Wesley and fiancé Terry Stephens of Beckley, and Brian Miller and Elizabeth Hardy of Beckley; daughter-in-law, Tina Miller of Charleston; 12 grandchildren, Michelle Wesley of High Point, NC, Nikko, Ryo and Taina Wesley of Beckley, Japri, Makayla and Tyler Miller of Beckley, Teruko and Janice Miller of Beckley, Nathan Smith of Beckley, Jessica Grayton of Beckley, and David Fortune of Charleston, WV; 18 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; one brother, Benny and Rose Miller of Maryland; two sisters, Connie Young and Lorraine Leftwich both of Ronceverte, and very dear sister-in-law, Hazel Miller of Ronceverte.
All family was special and very close to his heart but he had a special place for Gary Santana, Norma Cook, Bobbie Barker and best friend, Virgil Bradshaw
Mr. Earl Miller is preceded by his wife, Janice Miller; son, Earl Miller Jr.; brothers, Lewis Miller, Leroy Miller, Charles Miller and a sister, Rose Ann Miller.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Heart of God Ministries, on Saturday, September 29, 2012, with Rev. Debra Smoot and Bishop Fred T. Simms officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Friends may gather with the family Saturday from 12 to 1 p.m. at the church.
