Roger Lee Rogers
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Roger Lee Rogers aka “Big Rog” announces his passing on Wednesday, September 19th, 2012.
Born November 17th, 1949, at Claremont, W.Va., he was the son of Nannie Rogers of Redstar and the late Warren Rogers.
In his usual spirit and resilience he fought an amazing, fierce and inspirational battle with an extended illness; Roger is finally at peace in the Lord’s arms. Throughout what was such a difficult journey his uncanny sense of humor prevailed and despite his many health challenges he always thought more about others than himself.
Roger Rogers was retired from Elkem Metals, Alloy Plant, where he provided 36 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War serving two tours. He was a dedicated Father, loving husband and the world’s best Granddaddy.
Roger will be especially missed by his devoted wife, Lucinda Rogers, cherished daughter Natalie Ward, and the new lights of his life, granddaughters, Sydney and Jada Ward.
Roger has gone to join his Father Warren Rogers, brothers John Rogers Sr. and Nathaniel Pierre Rogers and nephew John Alan Rogers Jr. in the almighty land of Happiness. He leaves behind brothers, Owen Rogers, Billy Rogers, and sisters Carolyn Rogers, Phyllis Slay, Tamla Rogers, and a whole host of nieces and nephews.
He will be dearly missed by his many relatives and friends, whom he touched with his kind heart, hard-working values, great sense of humor, and the gift of never meeting a stranger.
A Celebration of Roger’s life will be held at Melton Mortuary, 1200 Harper Road, on Sunday at 1 p.m. Friends may call from noon until the time of service.
Condolences may be sent to the family’s guestbook at www.meltonmortuary.com.
