Patricia Ann Blake

HINES — Patricia Ann Blake, 63, of Hines, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, for her eternal reunion in paradise.

She was born on May 17, 1949. Pat worked at the G.C. Murphy store, Rudy’s Pizza and at Hardees. She enjoyed gardening and working with flowers. Pat always looked forward to spring and helping Jessie sell Avon.

Greeting Pat in heaven was her grandson Matthew Barrett.

Survivors include her companion Russell Garland Adkins of Charmco; three daughters Frances Barrett of Endcott, NY, Jessica Rookstool and husband Greg of Springdale and Gracie Cottrell of Rupert; five grandchildren David Gill of New York, Nicholas Rookstool of Springdale, Ronald Jr. and James Barrett, and Marsha Lanza all of New York; one sister Kathy Highlander and husband Mitchell of Lewisburg; two brothers Larry Hammonds and Gary Haighter; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Smathers Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dana Gatewood officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.

Friends may call today from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Thomas E. ‘T-Bone’ Bohn

OAK HILL — Thomas E. “T-Bone” Bohn, 73, of Oak Hill, formerly of Chicago, Ill., passed away Monday, March 25, 2013, one day before his 74th birthday at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.

Born March 26 1939, in Chicago, he was the son of the late Emil and Anna Lally Bohn.

Tom was a retired welder who enjoyed gardening, tinkering in the garage and getting the most use out of what he had. He was a unique individual who always left a lasting impression with whomever he met.

Mr. Bohn was cremated. A remembrance gathering will be held for family and friends on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. at 105 Thurmond Drive, Oak Hill.

Collett Cook

DURHAM, N.C.  —  Collett Cook, 99, of Durham, formerly of the Welch-Pineville Road, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2013, in the Calfee Funeral Service Chapel in Pineville, with the Rev. Evan Arkell officiating. Burial will follow at the Cook Family Cemetery on the Welch-Pineville Road.

Friends may visit with the family from 1 p.m. until the service.

Etta Lue Cook

Etta Lue Cook, 61 of Naoma, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at the CAMC Memorial Division Hospital, following a short illness.

She was born April 16, 1951, she was the daughter of the late James Alfred Clay and Emma Marie Lee Clay.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, William Clay, Gary Clay and Dale Clay and a nephew, Mark Lee Harris.

Those left to cherish her memories include her husband of 43 years, Forest Cook Jr. of Naoma; a son, James Clay and companion, Linda Smith; two daughters, Yvonne Cook and companion Terry Miller and Sylvia and Keith Dawson of Sylvester; three grandchildren, Samantha Cook of Naoma, Gabrielle Clay and Cheyenne Clay of Sandlick, W.Va.; two sisters, Cynthia Clay of Naoma and Emma and Carl Harris of Naoma; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 28th 2013, at Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with the Rev. David Cook officiating. Singers will be the Rev. Benny and Debbie Turner. Burial will follow in the US Cook Cemetery at Naoma.

Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be David Harris, Josh Harris, Carl Harris, Colten Harris, Keith Dawson, and Terry Miller.

Russell E. Cox

Russell E. Cox, 77, of Glen Morgan, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013,  at Raleigh General Hospital, following a long illness.

On Sunday, March 24, 2013 he had given his heart to the Lord.

Born October 19, 1935, at Dunns, he was a son of the late Columbus E. and Sylvia Moye Cox.

Russell lived in Pennsylvania for several years working as a self employed welder and after retiring, moved back to West Virginia. He loved car racing, NASCAR as well as dirt track. His nephews, Joey Cox and Ricky Williams raced and Russell would always call them on Sunday night asking how they did at the track.

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leslie and Clinton Cox; two sisters, Patsy Lowe and Jessie Mae Krumholz; two brother-in-laws, John Lowe and Karl Krumholz and a nephew, Michael Scarbrough.

Those left to cherish his memory include two sons, Jeffrey Cox and wife Mary of Bally, Pa. and Justin Cox of Norristown, Pa.; one granddaughter, Rebekah Cox of Bally, Pa.; one great granddaughter, Jayden Cox of Bally, Pa.; one brother, Joseph Cox and wife Katie of Stanaford; two sisters, MaryAnn Milam and husband Donald of Alderson and Betty Scarbrough and husband Chick of Shady Spring; former wife and friend, Elaine Cox of Norristown, Pa.; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Darrell Keaton, Ann Toney, Steve Scotty, Michael O’Rourcke and his caretaker, Rachel.

The family would like to send special thanks to Russell’s nurses on the 4th floor at Raleigh General Hospital.

Services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, with Skee Barley and Roger Smallwood officiating. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until time of services on Thursday. At Russell’s request his body will be cremated following the services.

In lieu of flowers donations of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Loretta ‘Jane’ Collier Duran

SAINT ALBANS — Loretta “Jane” Collier Duran, 74, of Saint Albans, formerly of Kilsyth, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1023 6th Avenue, St. Albans,  with Father Patrick McDonough officiating. Entombment will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Visitation was held Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1023 6th Avenue, St. Albans.

Joyce Ann Epling

CONCORD — Joyce Ann Epling, 71, of Concord, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013 at her home.

The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord on Thursday, March 28, 2013 from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will follow in the Concord chapel at 8 p.m., with Rev. Morris Tyree officiating.

Burial will be held in Flat Top West Virginia on Friday, March 29, 2013 at 2 p.m.

Mrs. Epling was born October 13, 1941, in Mercer County, to the late Mirriam Archie and Mildred Martin Archie. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Gene Archie.

Joyce’s voice was like a bird. Her noteworthy achievements, that we were all proud of was her love of her music. She played bass guitar at the Senior Center with her husband. She loved reading, and watching the cooking channel. More than anything Joyce loved being with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Carl C. Epling of the home; sons, Carl Epling of Harrisburg, NC, and Steven Edward Epling of Indian Land, SC; brothers, Anthony Archie and Colin Archie, both of Ohio; grandchildren, Joshua Garrett Epling of Harrisburg, NC and Ryan Edward Epling, Indian Land, SC.

Melvin H. ‘Bud’ Nichols

SUMMERSVILLE — Melvin H. “Bud” Nichols, 86, of Summersville, died Saturday, March 23, 2013.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville, with Rev. William Johnson and Rev. Tim McClung officiating. Burial will follow in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville.

Randy Wayne Nichols

PAGE — Randy Wayne Nichols, 58, of Page, died on Monday, March 25, 2013 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, after a long illness and many complications stemming from rheumatoid arthritis.

Born December 12, 1954 at Page, he was the son of the late Maynard and Jewell Mae Nichols.

A sister, Nena Beverly Wolfe preceded him in death.

He leaves behind three daughters, Michelle Ayers of Winfield and Karen Nichols of Oak Hill along with their mother, Vonda Nichols of Page, and Audrey Nichols of Bristol, TN and four grandchildren.

Also left to mourn his passing are three brothers, Larry Nichols, Lance Nichols and Steve Nichols.

It was his wish to be cremated and have no traditional service. His family will have a private ceremony at a later date.

Ruth Ann Price, 82, of Beckley, died Saturday, March 23, 2013.

Emma Lee Halsey Reed

On Saturday, March 23rd, 2013 our beloved Emma Lee Halsey Reed, 84, of Crab Orchard, went home to be with the Lord as she was surrounded by her family at Bowers Hospice House.

 Emma Lee was born April 1, 1928, to Okey and Mary Houck Halsey in Pierpoint. She was a member of the Lester First Church of God for many years where she loved her church family as her own. She retired from G.C. Murphy Co. in Mullens. She never met a person she didn’t like, a child she didn’t love, or a song she couldn’t sing.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Orbin “Seaweed” Reed of 58 years and a son Timbo. Three brothers Pete, Orion, and Martin Halsey and two sisters Lorene and Aldeen Workman. Those left to cherish her memory are daughters Pam Veal (Tom) and Jamie Forbes (Brian) of Crab Orchard, and Tara Jarrell (Chuck) of Rocky Mount, NC. Grandchildren Dabni, Andy, Seth, Marley, Chase, Chandler, Chelsey, Trey, Alex, Mathew, and Brittanie, and 10 great grandchildren. Brothers Codge, Ron, and Steve Halsey, Sisters Lorna Wyatt, Norm Bolt, and Sue Halsey. Many much loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, March 28th, 2013 at Lester First Church of God with Rev. Dale Birchfield officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
