Billie Kathleen ‘Sissy’ Davis
MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. — Billie Kathleen “Sissy” Davis, 56, of Mt. Holly passed away March 23, 2013, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia.
She was born in Raleigh County, WV, daughter of the late George Allen “Bud” and Willie Kathleen “Kitty” Thompson.
All services are private.
She had served as a child custody advocate and was very passionate about children. She loved her grandchildren, to read, and help others.
Mrs. Davis is survived by: her loving husband of over 19 years, Benjamin Davis of the home; son, Jackie Allen Bragg and wife Elizabeth of Rock Hill; daughter, Heather Anne Pychon of Statesville; brother, George “Buddy” Thompson of Beckley, WV; sisters, Tammy Butler of Prosperity, WV, Cheryl Hodges of Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren, Courtney, Jodi, Cameron, Justin, Jake, and Ben.

Billy E. Henard
ITMANN — Billy Elijah Henard, 70, was called home on Friday, March 22, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his family following a short illness.
Born February 13, 1943, at Rogersville, TN, he was the son of the late Elijah Henry and Lucille (Lawson) Henard.
Billy was a former coal miner, having last worked at Keyrock Energy at Kepler Processing, retiring with 43 years of service in the coal mining industry, was a member of UMWA and was a member of the New Life Missionary Baptist Church, Rogersville, TN, and attended the Mountaineer Baptist Church. In his leisure, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and feeding and watching birds.
When we pause to remember Billy, we shall remember his love for his church work and especially his love and enjoyment for gardening, where he was known throughout the community for his large and beautiful garden.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Ann Henard Wright.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 11 years, Donna (Dancy) Henard; a daughter, Robin Shumate and her husband, Richard, of Beckley; a son, Billy Henard and his wife, Lisa, of Rogersville, TN; two stepsons, Jason Dancy of Itmann and Matthew Dancy of Jesse; two sisters, Betty Jo Helton and her husband, Ralph, and Sylvia Singleton and her husband, Billy, both of Rogersville, TN; six grandchildren, Michael and Ryan Shumate, Ashley, Jeremiah and Nicholas Henard and Kristen Meade: and one great-grandchild, Teagan Meade; and Billy leaves behind numerous friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens, with Pastor Buddy Milam and Pastor Charles A. McKinney Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Still Run Cemetery, Itmann.
Friends may call today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Tankersley Funeral Home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

James Lee Pelphrey
HOLIDAY, Fla. — James Lee Pelphrey, 80, of Holiday, FL, formerly of Oceana, departed his earthly life and boarded the heavenly train on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at his daughter’s home.
He was born October 24, 1932, in Lovely, KY, a son of the late Sherman and Emma Pelphrey.
James had a deep passion for trains and enjoyed collecting and displaying model trains. He enjoyed bluegrass music and was an avid dancer. He had a great love for fishing and spent many hours on the banks of rivers, lakes and by the shores of the ocean near his home in Holiday, Florida.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson Craig Pelphrey, son-in-law Larry Lester and a brother Johnny Pelphrey.
He was a retired coal miner having worked for 27 years at Eastern Associated Coal’s Kopperston Mine.
James is survived by his daughter Debbie Lester of Shady Spring; seven sons Ronnie Pelphrey and wife Rena of Oceana, Gary Pelphrey of Oceana, Greg Pelphrey and wife Laurie of Beckley, Doug Pelphrey and wife Eva of Sophia, James Allen Pelphrey of Holiday, FL, Darren Pelphrey of Padrian, MI, and Kevin Pelphrey of Kentucky; two brothers Bob Pelphrey of Columbus, OH, and Earl Pelphrey of Kopperston; a sister Opal Williams of Waverly, OH; fifteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday March 25, 2013, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, with Rev. Jackie Grimmett officiating. In keeping with his wishes he will be cremated following the service. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Dennis Ray Shrewsbury, 63, of Beckley, passed away Friday, March 22, 2013, at Bowers Hospice House.
Born November 28, 1949, in Crab Orchard, he was the son of the late Howard and Lola Rakes Shrewsbury.
Dennis was a disabled construction worker. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding 4-wheelers. He loved his dogs.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Shrewsbury Rogers.
Survivors include a son, Ray Shrewsbury and his wife Melissa of Crab Orchard; daughter, Tina Cook of Crab Orchard; stepdaughter, Tina Harris of NC; brother, Roger Shrewsbury and wife Nancy of NC; sisters, Dorlia Cox and husband Larry of SC, Sylvia Sweeney and Jan Lacey and husband Dan of Crab Orchard; grandchildren, Jacob, Colton and Houston Shrewsbury, Paige and Isaiah Cook all of Crab Orchard, Dawson and Abby Harris of NC; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
