Quinnie Daniels Baldwin

Quinnie Daniels Baldwin, 87, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013.

James Earl Bowling

PRINCETON — James Earl Bowling, 79, of Princeton, died Monday, March 18, 2013 at Princeton Community Hospital.

Born July 27, 1933, in Spanishburg, he was the son of the late Thomas Campbell Bowling and Chloe Archer Bowling.  

Mr. Bowling was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked in the coal mines for over 20 years for Allied Chemical Corporation. He was the owner and operator of Jim’s Service Station on the corner of Mercer Street and Honaker Avenue in Princeton for 20 years. He attended First United Methodist Church in Princeton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Curtis Bowling, Dorsey Lee Bowling, Carl Bowling, Bill Bowling and Oakey Ray Bowling.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Wilma Davidson Bowling; two sons, James Bowling and his wife Diane of Woodford, VA and Joseph Bowling and his wife Lisa of Bluefield, VA; one daughter, Jessica Pritchett and her husband Jason of Princeton; ten grandchildren, Jae, Lauren, Tabitha, Jake, Jenna and Jett Bowling and Jaycee, Jersey, Jasper and Jillian Pritchett; one sister, Elizabeth Green and her husband Harry of Crab Orchard; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Scott Sears officiating.  

Honoring his request, the body will be cremated following the service and his cremains will be scattered at the farm where he was born in Spanishburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 304, Princeton, WV 24740 or to the Bluestone Valley Volunteer Fire Dept, P.O. Box 71, Spanishburg, WV 25922.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from 5 p.m. until service hour at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.

Nelma Young   Cooper

After fighting the good fight, finishing her course, and having kept the faith, Mrs. Nelma Young Cooper, daughter of the late Edward and Gladys Young of Fayetteville, W.Va., and long time resident of Milton made her entrance into the celestial city of Heaven. Delivered saint, devoted pastor’s wife, and dedicated mother, Mrs. Cooper, 80 years of age, made her departure from this life Saturday, March 16, 2013.

Mrs. Cooper was once employed by the former Pocahontas Coal Company and the Cabell County School System, but spent the majority of her life investing her time, energy, and talents nurturing her children who she loved dearly. She most recently attended Corinth Free Will Baptist Church in Alma, Ga. This godly lady was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Pastor Carl J. Cooper. Also, preceding her was a brother, Richard Young also of Fayetteville.

Sister Cooper is survived by two brothers, Bobby Young (Carol) of Beckley, and Kenny Young (Lisa) of Oak Hill, W.Va., a sister, Kathleen “Josie” Johnson of Fayetteville, and sons Wesley Cooper (Debbie) of Jefferson City, Tenn., Pastor Dan Cooper (Sandie) of Greeneville, Tenn., and daughter Julie McCoy (Dale) of Alma, Ga. She is also very proud to be survived by seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. “Her children arise up, and call her blessed;” Proverbs 31:28.

The family will celebrate the home-going of their precious loved one by receiving friends Thursday. March 21, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wallace Funeral Home in Milton. A memorial service honoring the life and legacy of Mrs. Cooper will be held Friday, March 22, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Wallace Funeral Home of Milton. Pastors Chris McAviney and Dale McCoy will officiate. Burial will be at Forest Memorial Park in Milton. Preliminary arrangements were provided by Crosby Funeral Home of Alma, Ga.,  with final arrangements provided by Wallace Funeral Home of Milton.

Russell J. Crawford  

On Friday, March 15th, 2013, our most loved, Russell J. Crawford of Bolt, went to be with the Lord at his home on Clover Lane in Bolt. He was 80 years of age.

One of five children, Russell Jackson Crawford was born at Algonia on April 11th, 1932, he was the son of the late William V. and Millie Evelyn Belcher Crawford Sr. His brothers, Thomas, William Jr., and Samuel and a sister Eva Mae have preceded him in death.

Russell was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. A coal miner, he retired with 38 plus years in the coal industry. He loved to ginseng, hunt and fish. Russell was a member of the Lester Church of God and loved the Lord.

Russell was married to Ruth Ann Martin Crawford; there is a daughter, Rebecca Rhodes and her husband, Scottie of Bolt and three sons, Jackson and Ricky of Bolt, a son, Ronnie has preceded him in death; a granddaughter, Lexie Rhodes also survives of Bolt. Russell will be sadly missed by a host of family and friends.

Memorial Services will be held at a later time.

Carolyn Jessica  Ferrell

Carolyn Jessica Ferrell, 65, of Orgas, left this life on Saturday, March 16, 2013, to be with Our Lord and Savior after a battle with illnesses.

She was a daughter of the late Fronia Bradford and Clyde Legg.

She was a certified court reporter and paralegal. She last worked for Judge Murensky in Welch, W.Va., as a court reporter. She attended White Oak Freewill Baptist Church. Her passion in life was singing God’s praise and playing the piano. She was blessed to be in a gospel group, Peace of Mind, with George Hughes, Rick Mills and Mark Thompson.

She is preceded in death by her mother, father and son Darrin Ferrell.

She is survived by her step-father Winifred Bradford, husband of 46 years Rodney Ferrell, a son, Kevin Ferrell and daughter-in-law, Melissa Ferrell and three grandkids, Nicole, Caleb and Jacob. She is also survived by many brother and sister-in-laws, nephews and nieces in which she thought the world of and genuinely loved each and every one of them dearly.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the Arnett Chapel, Arnett, with Pastor Larry Kinder officiating. Singer will be George Hughes. Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas.

Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

HILLSBORO — Collene Virginia Moore Hall of Hillsboro, died Monday, March 18, 2013.

RICHWOOD — Donna Sue Howell, 65, of Richwood, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2013.

Per Ms. Howell’s request, her body is being cremated. No services are being held at this time.

RAMSUER, N.C. — Kenneth Kennedy Sr., of Ramsuer, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Randolph Hospital in Ashboro, N.C.

C. Cameron Lewis II

C. Cameron Lewis II, 70, of Daniels, died Monday, March 18th, 2013, at a Charleston Area Medical Center following a sudden illness.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 23rd, at noon at the Beckley Presbyterian Church, 203 South Kanawha Street, Beckley. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, March 22nd, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church and from 10 a.m. until the service hour on Saturday.

Aline Faye Sizemore Shrewsberry

FAYETTEVILLE — Aline Faye Sizemore Shrewsberry, 90, of Fayetteville, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2013 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.

Born March 2, 1923, at Corrine, W.Va.,  she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Rosie Gay Blankenship Sizemore.

Mrs. Shrewsberry was a member of the New River Baptist Church, Fayetteville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Estel Shrewsberry, four sons, William Talbert, Timothy, Edward and Drewie Paul and caregiver, Mary Shrewsberry.

Those left to cherish her memory include daughter, Phyllis Repass of Scarbro, daughter, Faye Sizemore of Princeton, son, Leon Shrewsberry and wife, Rita of Fayetteville, son, Byron Shrewsberry and wife, Linda of Lebanon, TN, son, Jerry “Jake” Shrewsberry of Scarbro, daughter, Evie Perkins and husband, James of Fayetteville, daughter, Sylvia Davidson of Wytheville, VA, daughter, Donna Milam and husband, John of Scarbro, daughter, Cynthia England of Oak Hill and son, Terry Shrewsberry and wife, Julia of Inwood.

Also surviving are her 54 grandchildren, 98 great grandchildren, 24 great great grandchildren, and sisters, Willie Mae Haynes of Princeton, Georgia Shrewsberry of Sand Gap and Rosie Sizemore of Pineville.

Aline was the matriarch of a large, loving family and was truly an angel here on earth. She always saw the best in everyone and held her family and friends close to her heart. Aline enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, canning, reading the Bible, and working puzzle books. Aline enjoyed most serving the Lord and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with James Perkins and Pastor George Secrist officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill on Thursday, March 21, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m.

James Emery Shumate

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.

Mr. James Emery Shumate, 72, of Coal City, passed away Monday, March 18, 2013 at Bowers Hospice House.

Born September 22, 1940, in Beckley, he was the son of the late John Emery and Minnie Cozort Shumate.

James was a greeter and security officer for Walmart. He was the former owner of Shumate Furniture of Coal City. James was a member of the Missionary Baptist denomination of the Coal City Community Church where he served as deacon and Sunday school superintendent.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Mallamas Shumate; son, Jason Emery Shumate of Oak Hill; daughter, Diane Binder and husband Alvin of Oak Hill; step-daughter, Paula Johnson and husband Jeff of Beckley; step-grandson, Christopher Johnson of Beckley as well as a number of first cousins.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bob Stoddard and Pastor Dave Rumberg officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to service on Thursday.

Pallbearers will be Vernon Smith, Olen Dodd, L.W. Sears, Robert Rutledge, Dempsey Adams and J.C. Shumate.

Linda W. Taylor

PINCH — Linda W. Taylor, 63, of Pinch, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She is the daughter of Delma Worley of Beckley and the late Fred Worley.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Charles Taylor; her brother, Kenneth Worley and his wife, Karen of Gahanna, Ohio, and her nephew, David Worley and his wife, Debbie and their two children, Hannah and Mason of Gahanna, Ohio.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Schiano, Mary Schiano and their staff. Also,  special thanks to the nurses and CNAs at Hospice Care. There are no words to express our gratitude for all they have done.

Linda will be remembered for her kindness and love for family, friends and animals. She will be sadly missed by everyone that knew her and her adopted cats: Roxie, Gracie, Koko, Annie, Mori, and Oreo.

It was her wish that there be no service.

Betty Lou Toombs

OAK HILL — Betty Lou Toombs, 68, of Oak Hill, passed away Monday, March 18, 2013, at Plateau Medical Center.

Born July 13, 1944 at Scarbro, the son of the late Toy Tazwell Martin and Kathern Jane (Conner) Martin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her companion of 17 years Kenneth Ellison; brothers Toy Martin Jr., Robert Martin, Billy Martin, Roger “Rawhide” Martin, Edward Martin, Richard Martin; and sisters Elizabeth Helmick, and Carol Roberts.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son Daniel Collins Jr. of Beckley; daughter Stephanie Ann Collins-Ruger and her husband Paul of Oak Hill; grandchildren Shannon Collins and Taylor Collins-Ruger; sisters Shirley Pauley and her husband Buddy of Ohio, Ruth Thomas and her husband Macky of Oak Hill, Linda Leffell and her husband Billy of Oak Hill, and Deborah Aliff of Oak Hill; brothers Michael Martin and his wife Neva of Oak Hill, John Martin and his wife Cheryl of Virginia, and Jim Martin and his wife Earlene of New Mexico.

Her remains rest at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 1435 E. Main Street, Oak Hill, where the funeral will be held 1 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Bill Drennen officiating and where the family will receive friends from noon until time of service. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

James ‘Jim’ Basil Wease

James “Jim” Basil Wease, 74, passed away Sunday morning peacefully at his home.

Jim was born Dec. 28, 1938, to Fred and Ona Webb Wease.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He lived in Richwood for most of his life and worked in construction. He loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed camping with his friends.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Jean Wease; his son, Tim Wease; his daughter and son-in-law, Nicky Wease Collins and Ronnie Collins; his sister, Bobbie Peters; his sister and brother-in-law, Roseland Shantrey and Emil Shantrey; his brother and sister-in-law, Donald Wease and wife Claudia; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Richwood Cemetery, Richwood, with Guy Foster officiating.

Dale Webb Sr.

2nd Timothy 4:7 “I have the fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” On Sunday, March 17th, 2013, Our most loved, Elden Dale Webb Sr., passed away at his home on Peters Drive surrounded by his loving family. He was in his 83rd year.

Known affectionately as Dale all his life, he was born at Edwight, on Oct. 17th, 1929, the son of the late James Gifford “Gip” and Enola Dickens Webb.

Dale was a foreman for Armco Steel. He retired with 35 years of service. In his leisure time, Dale enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He was of the Christian faith.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 66 years, Donna Jeane Adkins Webb; his devoted children: Elden Dale “Butch” Webb and his wife, Angela of Beckley and Merylus Kay Bongalis of Bradley; he was the proud grandfather of Monica Dickens and her companion, Rick Overstreet, Jason Bongalis and his wife, Lindsay, Elden Dale Webb III and his wife, Amaiee, Michael Paul Webb and his wife, Carrie, Amber Akers and her husband, Robert, and Stephanie Chapman; the great grandfather of Anthony Stamey, Alanna Jeane Dickens, Kyle Dickens, Brandon Robinson, Austin Webb, Hayley Webb, Madison Akers, Mason Akers,Tristan Stalnaker, Emileigh Wriston, Phillip Bongalis, Megan Webb and Caleb Lagrande; he was the fond brother of James A. Webb and Shirley Davis and her husband, Arthur, all of Creston, Ohio; and his faithful caregiver, Linda Landy also survives.

On Thursday, March 21st, at 1 p.m. we will remember the life of Dale Webb with a “Service of Remembrance” at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Revs. Lynn Halstead and Danny Gilfilen will be officiating. Dale will be laid to rest in the Pine View Cemetery at Orgas.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the mortuary and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be Dale Webb III, Michael Paul Webb, Larry Spence, Thomas Stalnaker, Jason Bongalis and Robert Akers. Rick Overstreet is an honorary pallbearer.
