Rosie Mary Huggins Bennett

RONCEVERTE — Rosie Mary Huggins Bennett, age 79, of Ronceverte, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, with the Rev. Jim Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at the McElhenney Church Cemetery, Grassy Meadows.

Friends may call Tuesday, March 19, 2013, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson.

PRINCETON — James Earl Bowling, 79, of Princeton, died Monday, March 18, 2013.

Kermit John Bricker

Kermit John Bricker, 54, of Beckley, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, passed away Sunday,  March 10, 2013 at Bowers Hospice House surrounded by family.

Born September 1, 1958, at Lima Ohio, he was the son of John Edward Bricker and Virginia Ellen (Jennings) Schlatman.

He was baptized by Rev. Thomas Kuhn in August 2012, at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church at Delphos, Ohio.

He is survived by his father John Edward Bricker, his mother Virginia Ellen Schlatman and her husband Orban Schlatman Sr., his wife Belina R. (Mullins) Bricker of Columbus Ohio; three daughters Lela Bricker and Ruth Bricker of Ohio and Virginia Faith (Bricker) Schlatman of Beckley; five siblings Judy Ann Tompkins and her husband Brian, Orban Schlatman Jr. and his wife Sadie, Ruth Clay and her husband Marshall, Douglas E. Schlatman, all of Conrad, WV, and Rickey Lee Schlatman and his wife Linda of Jacksonville FL; he is also survived by his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation or funeral service.

Anna Louise ‘Tootsie’ Ferris

Anna Louise “Tootsie” Ferris, 73, of Maple Fork, passed away Friday, March 15, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital.

Born February 29, 1940, at Maple Fork, the daughter of the late Edward Gilland and Nancy Dell (Blackburn) Gilland.

Tootsie was a housewife. She was a member of the Dothan Community Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Dayton Ferris, and three brothers Blair Gilland, Blaine Gilland, and Fred Gilland.

Those left to cherish her memory include sons Michael Fuller and his wife Rosie of Oak Hill and Darrell Fuller and his wife Laurie of Hilltop; sister Virginia Terry of Scarbro; grandson Michael Nicholas Fuller; great grandson Michael Jace Fuller; and many more family members and a host of friends.

Her remains rest at the Dothan Community Church where the funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Darrell Fuller and Rev. Terry Hatcher officiating and where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of service.

Pallbearers will be Mike Fuller, Denvil Wriston, James Terry, Raymond Thomas, Joey Donelow, and Eddie Gilland.

Burial will follow in Ellis - Miller Family Cemetery.

Cynthia Mildred  Milam Fink

Cynthia Mildred Milam Fink, 85, of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 17, 2013.

Born March 2, 1928, in Glen Daniel, she was the daughter of the late Everette and Amy Callison Milam of Glen Daniel.

Mrs. Fink spent her childhood in Glen Daniel, where she loved gardening with her dad and sewing with her mom. She was a graduate of Trap Hill High School, a graduate of Concord University and was a devoted teacher for thirty eight years. She taught at several area schools before retiring from Raleigh County Board of Education in 1986. She spent the last years of her teaching career at WWHS where she taught Reading and Language Arts.

She enjoyed vacationing, motorcycle racing and drawing with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Fink was preceded in death by her husband of 38 1/2 years, Ranny G. Fink; a brother, Ray (Johnny) Milam of Wayne, W.Va.; and a sister, Nettie Dancy of Dayton, Ohio.

Those left to cherish her memory include her only loving son, Randy Karl and his wife Jeannie Fink of Glen Daniel; two grandsons, Nicholas Fink and fiancé Ashley Meadows of Glen Daniel, Ryan Fink and girlfriend, Ashton Hylton of Glen Daniel; one granddaughter Anna Fink of Florida; sister, Arlene Milam Elkins of Glen Daniel, brother, Delmar Milam and wife Lois of Charlotte, N.C.; several nieces and nephews.

She was looking forward to spending time with her first great-grandson before her untimely passing.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, with Brother Steve Croy officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may gather with the family Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dr. George F. Fordham

Dr. George F. Fordham, a long time resident of Mullens, W.Va., passed away on Friday, March 15, 2013 at the age of 91 years. He was the son of the late Dr. George and Mary Yodzis Fordham of Powellton and Montgomery.

He graduated at age 14 from Montgomery High School, attended the College of Mt. St. Mary’s, Emmitsburg, Md., and received a B.S. degree in Chemistry, cum laude from Georgetown University. This was followed by a year of graduate study in the School of Foreign Service. In 1944, Dr. Fordham received his M.D. degree from the Duke University School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency training at Philadelphia General Hospital. This was followed by a three year Fellowship in Internal Medicine at The Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Fordham practiced Medicine in Raleigh and Wyoming counties for 40 years and was part owner of the Wyoming General Hospital. He was among the last physicians in the area who regularly made house calls. Often because of travel difficulties, he traveled to his patients by horseback. For several years prior to his retirement, his interest turned to disability evaluations for Social Security and Workman’s Compensation for those injured while employed. Because of his reputation for thoroughness, his services were in high demand by attorneys throughout the Appalachian coal mining area.

Dr. Fordham was a member of the Wyoming County County Medical Society, the West Virginia Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the American College of Chest Physicians, a Fellow of the American Occupational Medical Association, and a Fellow in the American Geriatrics Association. He was also a member of the Mullens Rotary Club and the Mullens Lion Club. He took great pride in his Certified Tree Farm and, in 1961, was appointed a member of the West Virginia Governor’s Committee on Wood Utilization. His favorite hobbies were horseback riding, vegetable gardening, and reading.

An active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Dr. Fordham was co-chairman of the Building Committee which started and managed the construction of the current church on Terry Street.

Preceding him in death was his wife of 65 years, Ruth Hawes Fordham and daughter Catherine F. Aubert (Charles), Marietta, Ga.

Dr. Fordham is survived by his son, George F. Fordham Jr., Bridgeport, W.Va., daughter Ellen Kuebler (Bill), granddaughters Amy Stahley (Mark), and Kateri Knosp (Scott) all of Cincinnati, Ohio. Great-grandchildren are Dominic and Aidan Stahley; and Kira and Emma Knosp.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church on Friday, March 22, 2013, at 10 a.m. with co-celebrants Rev. Cu Ming Duong and Rev. Jack Reich. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

Memorials may be made to the St. John the Evangelist Church, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or charity of choice.

James Ross Honaker

ARNETT — James Ross Honaker, 88, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013.

He was born August 13, 1924, a son of Dewey Dovner Honaker and Wilda Pettry Honaker.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Steinaker during World War II. He was married to Nevada Jane Stout Honaker and raised four children. He was a born again Christian who faithfully attended Arnett Chapel and served as a trustee and assistant superintendent for many years. He touched many lives as a school bus driver for Raleigh County Board of Education from which he retired in 1986.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nevada Jane Stout Honaker, his eldest daughter Annie Marie Honaker Smith, his parents, two sisters and three brothers.

He is survived by his daughter Barbara Jane Honaker Williams and her husband Jarvis Williams, his daughter W. Marlene Honaker, and his son James Ross Honaker II and wife Leslie Honaker all of  Arnett, grandchildren Stephanie Jo Smith, Chistina Leanne Jarrell Donnan and her husband Michael Donnan, Jennifer Marie Smith DeMoss and her husband Chris DeMoss, Courtnery Nicole Jarrell and her fiance Brian Gunnoe, James Ross Honaker III and fiancee Angela Scarbro, Larry Michael Honaker, Justin Williams, Megan Williams, Taylor Williams, great grandchildren Aneesa DeMoss, Neviana DeMoss, Julian Escott, Tayshawn Escott, Tristan Donnan, Kenzie Williams and Tyler Williams, his sister Violet Honaker Marshall, his brother Sherman Honaker and his wife Carol Honaker, his in home caretaker and friend Melisa Kinser Petroff and all ther loving and caring members of Hospice of  Southern West Virginia all of  whom love him very much.

Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at the Arnett Chapel, Arnett, with the Rev. Larry Kinder officiating. Burial will follow in the Honaker Family Cemetery No. 2, Arnett, with military graveside rites by the American Legion Post No. 32, Beckley.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at the church.

Nicholas Melvin  Mucho Sr.

FAYETTEVILLE — Nicholas Melvin Mucho Sr. , 71, of Fayetteville, died on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.

Born February 19, 1942, at Richeyville, Pa., he was the son of the late Nicholas and Barbara Tompos Mucho.

He was a retired maintenance worker for Georgia-Pacific.

Mr. Mucho was a member of the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill. He enjoyed golfing.

He served in the US Navy during Vietnam Era.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Collins Kelly Mucho; son, Nicholas Mucho Jr. of Bradley, daughter, Natasha Mucho of Mount Hope, sister, Nancy Polacek of Florida and three grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Oak Hill, with Father Paul Yuenger officiating. Entombment will be at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. There will be no visitation.

Pearl Brooks Phillips

PINEVILLE — Pearl Brooks Phillips, 87, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, at The Seasons Assisted Living Center in Lewisburg.

Born March 30, 1925, at Asco in McDowell County, W.Va., Pearl was the daughter of the late Bill and Margaret Rose Brooks.

Mrs. Phillips enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, sewing, and watching birds on the home place. Her constant companions were her three cats: Prissy, Paddy and Fannie. She worked for several years at Etta Allen’s Restaurant and she retired from Holloway Drug Store. She attended Rock Castle Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband, Paul W. Phillips Sr. and siblings: Greever Brooks, Dutch Brooks, Howard Brooks, Virgie Bailey, Edith Lester, Gladys Ellison, Walter Brooks, Buddy Brooks, and a grandson, Anthony Dixon.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Paula Dowdy and husband, Ben of Lewisburg, Ron Phillips and wife, Linda of Pineville, Philip Phillips and wife, Sherry of Princeton, Wilhelmina Dixon and husband, Ballard of Oceana, and Paul Phillips Jr. and wife, Deanza of King, NC; 10 grandchildren: Abbie Shrewsbury Franks and husband, Dan, Travis Shrewsbury, Ballard Dixon, Jr., Amy Dixon Daniels and husband, Ron, Amanda Phillips Wood and husband, Jason, Philip Phillips, Jr. and wife, Seabrook, Kate Phillips Black and husband, Adam, John Phillips, Justin Phillips, Wiley Phillips; 9 great-grandchildren: Samantha Franks, Dakota Dixon, Whitney Dixon, Logan and Dylan Daniels, Aidan and Isaac Wood, Addison Phillips, and Jackson Black; and sisters: Lou Fuller of New Richmond and Mary Brooks of Pineville.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Rock Castle Baptist Church, with the Revs. Sam Francis and Evan Arkell officiating.
