Jerry Dale Cales

CHESTNUT MOUNTAIN — Jerry Dale Cales, 62, of Chestnut Mountain went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 14, 2013, in the Main Street Care Facility in Hinton following a long illness.

Born November 28, 1950, at Chestnut Mountain, he was a son of the late Arnold and Ocie Mae Adkins Cales.

Jerry was a member of the Chestnut Mountain Church of Christ and was a groundskeeper at Pipestem State Park. He loved gardening, raising cattle and his beloved dogs (Yorkshire Terriers), watching old western movies, and spending time with family and friends. He was a fan of Hank Williams Sr.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Ferlin Cales, and one sister, Ethel Nadine Cales.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 39 years, Betty Gail Walton Cales; one son, Jerry “Peppy” Faron Cales and wife Diana of Rainelle; one brother, Jimmy Cales and wife Phyllis of Chestnut Mountain; and five sisters, Wanda Ward of Chestnut Mountain, Bonnie Rhoads and husband James of Gate City, VA, Peggy Walton of Chestnut Mountain, Decretia Cales of Chestnut Mountain and Teresa Johnson and husband Bart of Daniels.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Cales Cemetery at Chestnut Mountain with Paul Lane officiating. At his request there will be no visitation. Friends may gather at the cemetery from 12:30 until time of services at the cemetery on Monday.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Arrangements are by the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors of Hinton.

Karen Ann Cales

SANDSTONE — Karen Ann Cales, 68, of Sandstone, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Summers County A.R.H. Hospital in Hinton.

Born January 28, 1945, at Sandstone, she was the daughter of the late Ulysses Earl and Ina Taylor Vandall.

Karen was a graduate of Sandstone High School. She was a medical transcriptionist and was of the Baptist faith. She studied her Bible daily and loved nature and feeding the wild animals around her home.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Kennith, Lloyd and Billy Vandall, and two sisters, Jean Surber and Betty Ward.

Survivors include a daughter, Kristi Cales of Roanoke. One brother, Danny Vandall of Sandstone. Four sisters, Pauline Turner of Grottoes, VA, Mary Dolin of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Phyllis Foster of Sandstone and Dixie Hall and husband Rick of Peterstown, WV.

A private funeral service for family and invited friends will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton. Burial will follow in the King Cemetery at Sandstone. There will be no visitation.

Pallbearers will be: Allen and Carlos Richmond, Danny Lee and Charlie Jones, Danny Wayne Vandall, Van Turner, Darren Walker and Kevin Ward.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
