Eula Patsy Stover Atha
Eula Patsy Stover Atha passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013, after a long illness. Born February 24, 1941, she was the daughter of the late French Patrick and Hazel Stover.
She was mother, homemaker, LPN and a graduate of the WV Tech Nursing Program in Montgomery, WV. Mrs. Atha enjoyed gardening, country music and spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory are her Husband Michael Atha; Sons Ira Collins, and Tim Collins; Daughter Patty Collins Jones; Son-in-law Marc Jones; two Grandchildren Tyler-Ray Fairthorne, and Rachel Fairthorne.
In addition to her parents, Eula is preceded in death by three brothers, Calvin Stover, Buford Stover and Warren Harding Stover, and a daughter, Mary Jo Collins.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.
Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Friends may gather with the family from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

BRENTON — James E. Bailey, 56, of Brenton passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013.

Retired Col. Daniel Ray Boone
ORGAN CAVE — Retired Col. Daniel Ray Boone, 74, of Organ Cave, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Lewis Gale/Allegheny Memorial Hospital in Low Moor, VA.
Col. Boone was born June 12, 1938, at Ronceverte to the late Ray Ralph Boone and the late Margaret Rodgers Boone Shanklin.
Col. Boone proudly served his country with the U.S. ARMY for 43 years; he served 2 tours in Vietnam. He was also a Marshall graduate, a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church and past member of the Organ Cave Ruritan Club.
Other than his parents Col. Boone was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Ann Stallings; brother, Roger Boone; sister-in-law, Phyllis S. Boone.
Survivors include aunts, Dolly R. Johnson of Port Charlotte, FL, and Danese R. Lee of Lynchburg, VA; nieces, Jennifer Stallings of Ronceverte, Ronda Escobar of Bedford, VA, Allison Graves of Ronceverte and Terry (Bruce) Dowdy of Lewisburg; nephews, Ronald Stallings of Organ Cave, Todd (Tish) Boone of Organ Cave, Kevin Johnson of Harrisburg, NC, and George (Michelle) Stallings of St. Louis, MO; great-nieces and nephews, Drew and Tayler Dowdy, Alise Johnson, Josh Goodman and Renee, Lindsey, Morgan, Raylen, Austin, Mikayla and Bailey Boone, and great-grandnieces and nephews, Jacob, Sarah, Mark and Bella.
Graveside Service will be 11 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Salem Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Dexter Taylor officiating.

Jerry Dale Cales
CHESTNUT MOUNTAIN — Jerry Dale Cales, 62, of Chestnut Mountain went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 14, 2013, in the Main Street Care Facility in Hinton following a long illness.
Born November 28, 1950, at Chestnut Mountain, he was a son of the late Arnold and Ocie Mae Adkins Cales.
Jerry was a member of the Chestnut Mountain Church of Christ and was a groundskeeper at Pipestem State Park. He loved gardening, raising cattle and his beloved dogs (Yorkshire Terriers), watching old western movies, and spending time with family and friends. He was a fan of Hank Williams Sr.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Ferlin Cales, and one sister, Ethel Nadine Cales.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 39 years, Betty Gail Walton Cales; one son, Jerry “Peppy” Faron Cales and wife Diana of Rainelle; one brother, Jimmy Cales and wife Phyllis of Chestnut Mountain; and five sisters, Wanda Ward of Chestnut Mountain, Bonnie Rhoads and husband James of Gate City, VA, Peggy Walton of Chestnut Mountain, Decretia Cales of Chestnut Mountain and Teresa Johnson and husband Bart of Daniels.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Cales Cemetery at Chestnut Mountain with Paul Lane officiating. At his request there will be no visitation. Friends may gather at the cemetery from 12:30 until time of services at the cemetery on Monday.

Karen Ann Cales
SANDSTONE — Karen Ann Cales, 68, of Sandstone, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Summers County A.R.H. Hospital in Hinton.
Born January 28, 1945, at Sandstone, she was the daughter of the late Ulysses Earl and Ina Taylor Vandall.
Karen was a graduate of Sandstone High School. She was a medical transcriptionist and was of the Baptist faith. She studied her Bible daily and loved nature and feeding the wild animals around her home.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Kennith, Lloyd and Billy Vandall, and two sisters, Jean Surber and Betty Ward.
Survivors include a daughter, Kristi Cales of Roanoke. One brother, Danny Vandall of Sandstone. Four sisters, Pauline Turner of Grottoes, VA, Mary Dolin of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Phyllis Foster of Sandstone and Dixie Hall and husband Rick of Peterstown, WV.
A private funeral service for family and invited friends will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton. Burial will follow in the King Cemetery at Sandstone. There will be no visitation.
Pallbearers will be: Allen and Carlos Richmond, Danny Lee and Charlie Jones, Danny Wayne Vandall, Van Turner, Darren Walker and Kevin Ward.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

OAK HILL — Betty Jo Ellis, 80, of Oak Hill, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley. Born September 11, 1932, at Lego, WV, the daughter of the late Paul McCoy and Goldie Fitzwater.
Betty attended North Sand Branch Worship Center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jimmie Smith Ellis in October 2012; two brothers Paul McCoy and Bobby McCoy; one sister Helen Spencer; son-in-law Ted Christian; and granddaughter Brittany Williams.
Those left to cherish her memory include four daughters Kathy Perry and her husband Wayne of Oak Hill, Debra June Christian of Morgantown, Vicki Lynn Bourogaa and her fiance William Baughcum of McDonough, GA, and Pamela Sue Kelly and her husband Ray of Scarbro; one brother Roger McCoy and his wife Louise of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

VICTOR — Charles E. Ferrell, 80, of Victor, passed away at his residence Thursday, March 14, 2013, following a short illness. Born November 22, 1932, he was the son of the late Jacob and Lena Mason Ferrell. Mr. Ferrell was a retired coal miner where he worked as a mechanic; he served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Trinity Assembly of God, Ansted.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Clarence, Claude, and Carlos Ferrell.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 60 years, Juanita Maxine Neal Ferrell, one daughter Sandy Underwood and her husband Tony, of Hico; one grandson Rob Underwood and his wife Michelle of Wytheville, Va.; three granddaughters: Sonja Bricker and her husband Bob of Connellsville, PA, Toni Hicks and her husband Andy of Lansing, Pam Sizemore of Louisa, KY. Twelve great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013, at the Trinity Assembly of God, Ansted, with Pastors Michael Angelona and Ronnie Eagle officiating. Mary Maddox Martin
BELLE — Mary Maddox Martin, 65, of Belle, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, following a short illness.
Mary was a lifelong resident of Belle and was a member of Judson Baptist Church. She retired from both Walker Machinery and Huntington Banks.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, William Ray “Bill” Martin; son, James William Martin; mother, Nellie Myrtle Maddox Howard; father, James Clifton Maddox, Sr.; and brother, James Clifton Maddox, Jr.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Tara Webb and her husband, Bryan, of Fairmont; brother, Thomas Howard Maddox of Fort Mill, SC.; sisters, Freda Romine of Raleigh, NC., and Nellie Cummins of Atlanta, GA.; and grandson, Bryan Elliott Webb Jr.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 17th, at Judson Baptist Church, Belle, with Pastor Charles Bolen and Rev. Ron Burnsworth officiating.

DUBLIN, Va. — Hazel Pearl Burgess Stewart, age 88, of Dublin passed away Friday, March 15, 2013, in the Lewis Gale Hospital, Pulaski.
Born December 15, 1924, in Baileysville, WV, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Burgess and Susan Justice Halcomb. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Ray Stewart; Sons, Benny Joe Stewart and Larry Stewart; Brothers, Edward Halcomb and Jay Halcomb; daughter-in-law, Kathy Stewart; and Son-in-law, Patrick Grygiel.
She was a retired nurse and attended the New Life Church of the Nazarene, Pulaski.
Surviving are Daughters, Patty Grygiel of Dublin, Susan Waggoner and husband, Robert, of Pineville, WV; Sons, Wilburn Stewart and wife, Virginia, of Dublin, Donald Stewart of Salisbury, N.C., Timothy Stewart and wife, Belinda, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Grandchildren, Diana Lynn Phillips, Deborah Louise Tabor, Timothy Ray Stewart, James Donald Stewart, and Michael Scott Britton. Great-Grandchildren, Bradley Phillips, Andrew Phillips, Megan Stewart, Anna Paige Stewart, Travis Tabor, Jarred Tabor and Cody Stewart. Great-Great-Granddaughter, Taylor Phillips; Sisters, Dorothy Crabtree of Tazewell, Mary Kitts of Bluefield, VA.
Funeral Services will be held Monday 11 a.m., March 18, 2013, in the New Life Church of the Nazarene, 45 South Jefferson Avenue, Pulaski, VA, with Pastor Desmond Barrett officiating.
The family will receive friends Monday from 10 a.m. until the service time at the Church.
Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, WV.
