Timothy Arrington

Timothy Arrington of Glen Daniel passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at Harvest Time Church, Lynco.

Eula Patsy Stover Atha

Eula Patsy Stover Atha passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013, after a long illness.

Born February 24, 1941, she was the daughter of the late French Patrick and Hazel Stover.

She was mother, homemaker, LPN and a graduate of the WV Tech Nursing Program in Montgomery, W.Va. Mrs. Atha enjoyed gardening, country music and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Eula is preceded in death by three brothers, Calvin Stover, Buford Stover and Warren Harding Stover, and a daughter, Mary Jo Collins.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Friends may gather with the family from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Lava Bowling

On Tuesday, March 12th, 2013, our most cherished, Lava Smithson Bowling, of Surveyor, passed away at her home following a long illness. She was in her 85th year of life.

Known affectionately as “Littie” by her family, Lava Louise Smithson was born on Nov. 2, 1927, at Lester. Her parents were the late Harley and Virgie Belcher Smithson. Her sister, Dollie Stover, and brothers, Ray, Quillie, Leslie, and Richard Smithson, have preceded her in death.

Lava spent her early childhood at Metalton. A graduate of Trap Hill High School, Class of 1946, she has been a resident of Surveyor since 1946. Lava was a member of the Lester Church of Christ.

Lava was married to Gale Bowling. To this union were born Linda Gwinn and her husband, Roger, of Fairdale, Larry Bowling and his wife, Paula, of Surveyor and Jerry Bowling and his wife, Jeannette, of Glen Daniel. She will be remembered as a beloved wife and mother. Gale Bowling died on Nov. 27th, 1986.

Lava was the dear grandmother of Mike Payne and his wife, Jean, Brandon Bowling and his wife, Mary, and Nicole Foreman and her husband, Tom; the proud great-grandmother of Nicholas, Dylan, Peyton and Josh; the fond sister of Frances Wheeler of Hilltop and Dora Massie of Newport News, Va.; several nieces and nephews also survive.

On Saturday, March 16th, at 4 p.m. we will remember the life of Lava with a “Service of Remembrance” at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Randall Smithson will be officiating. Lava will be laid to rest in the Canaday Cemetery at Glenview. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
