Rev. Robert James Hansford Sr., 83, of Coal City, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 29, 2013 after courageously fighting a long illness with his loving family by his side.
Robert was born in Kentucky on January 8, 1930, to the late John and Jessie Patton Hansford.
He was a devout Christian who gave his heart to Jesus in 1969. He was a member of the Grassy Banks Community Church in Josephine and had served as the Sunday school teacher of the Adult Class for many years. He became an Ordained Minister in May 1977 receiving his Marriage Rites Authorization in June 1977, and was a graduate of the Institute of Biblical Studies.
Robert had 39 years of experience as a coal miner before finally retiring from The New River Coal Company in 1985. After his retirement, he enjoyed being in his garage working on cars and four wheelers. He also enjoyed taking his precious dog Rebel to the Post Office each day.
He was preceded in death his two brothers, Morris Hansford and Marvin Hansford and two sisters, Janet Parker and Sue Crump.
Survivors include his loving wife with whom he just celebrated 63 years of marriage, Lorene, seven children, Danny and his wife Collette of East Gulf, Robert Jr. of Coal City, Randy and his wife Libby of Flat Top Lake, Tressa White of Coal City, Cheryl Bell and her husband Jim of Coal City, Scott and his wife Diana of Coal City and Tina Price and her husband James of Coal City. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, sisters Marlene Cunningham and her husband Ed of Rhodell and Jonalee Tyree and her husband Ron of Beckley.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday August 1, 2013 in the chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Coalson officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Pallbearers will be Randy M. Hansford, Isaiah Hansford, Timothy Hansford, Robert Hansford III, Jimmy Bell, and James Price.
Family will receive friends from noon until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
