Roy Thomas Bowden Jr.
On Saturday, November 9th, 2013, our most cherished Roy T. Bowden, Jr., was called to his eternal rest.
In the 77th year of his life, Roy Thomas Bowden Jr. was born on February 1, 1936, in Greenbrier County.
The son of the late Roy Thomas and Geraldine Bowden Sr., his sister Jo Ann Price and an infant brother, Edward, have preceded him in death.
Roy was a man of entrepreneurial spirit. The founder of C&R properties, he was the owner and CEO of STB Inc. Roy opened three of Beckley’s Subway stores. He will be remembered for his high work ethic. Roy was always busy.
When not involved in his business ventures, you could find Roy working in the yard. A sausage maker, he immensely enjoyed preparing for holiday events with his family.
Family was everything to Roy. On the 4th of July 1959, he married the love of his life, Mary Constance Fama. They make their home in Stanaford Acres.
Roy and Connie were blessed with three children, Susan, Roy Thomas III and Belinda. They will forever cherish his memory.
The family worshiped at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, where Roy was active in the Knights of Columbus # 5657.
The family has grown. Susan has married John Berry. They reside in Milford, DE.
Dr. R. Thomas Bowden, III, is married to Leisa Kay. They make their home in Nitro.
Belinda is married to Dr. Jeff Harvey. They live in Beckley.
Roy loved his grandchildren; he and Connie looked forward to attending their events and activities.
He was the doting grandfather of John Michael Berry, Bethany Constance Berry, Philip Thomas Berry, Nicholas Blaine Bowden, Christopher Thomas Bowden, Sarah Elizabeth Harvey, Vincent Thomas Harvey, Ginny Constance Harvey.
Roy is also survived by his niece Andrea Spencer and nephew David Price.
Connie’s family the Famas survive as well.
Although our dear Roy has been called to his eternal rest, remembering him will be easy. We, his loving family, shall do it every day.
On Tuesday, Nov. 12th, The Funeral Liturgy for Roy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. from the St. Francis de Sales Church. Monsignor Samuel Sacus and Father Penn will be the celebrants.
The Rite of Committal will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum. Roy’s Family will carry him to his rest.
The family will receive friends on Monday, Nov. 11th, at the Melton Mortuary Chapel, 1200 Harper Road, Beckley, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. led by Rev. Mr. William Donald Wise.
