James Dewey ‘Jim’ Turner
James Dewey “Jim” Turner, age 72, of Beckley, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the Beckley VA Medical Center.
Born on July 24, 1941 in Beckley, he was the son of the late Dewey Turner and Thelma Maude Sweeney Turner.
Mr. Turner was a retired electrician for the Consolidated Coal Mines at Clear Creek. He was a US Army Vietnam Veteran. Mr. Turner was a member of the Maxwell Hill Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, car shows, particularly corvettes.
He was preceded in death by a sister Louise Turner and Edith Tilley.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Diane Gervais Turner. Children, Angela Turner and her companion Joe Bair of Bradley, Brian Turner and his wife Cyl of Richmond, Va., Matthieu Turner and his wife Brandi of Mount Hope. Sisters, Margie Heron of High Springs, Fla., Janet O’Dell of Ravenna, Ohio, Betty Hurts of Cambridge, Ohio, Peggy Hoosier of Lexington, N.C., Linda Broemsen of Concord, N.C. and Gloria Curry and her husband George of Prosperity. Grandchildren: Ashlee Benoit, Bretton Turner and Brynlee Grace Turner. Great-grandchildren: Max McGhee, and Lily Benoit. Many nieces and nephews who will miss Jim dearly also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Maxwell Hill Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Ken Killen officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Beckley. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Brian Turner, Matt Turner, Joe Bair, Doug O’Dell and Roger Lilly.

Delbert Ray Whitt
Delbert Ray Whitt, 65, of Lester, passed away of natural causes Thursday, October 31, 2013.
Born December 8, 1947, he was the son of the late Wirt and Belva McDaniel Whitt.
Delbert was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. He retired from U.S. Steel in Pennsylvania after 35 years.
In addition to his parents, Delbert is preceded in death by his brothers, James Whitt, Freddie Whitt, David Wayne Whitt and Charles Whitt; sisters, Bonnie Whitt Moore, Betty Whitt Mills.
Those left to cherish his memory include his brother, Billy J. Whitt and wife Linda of Sophia, Ronnie E. Whitt and wife Vickie of Gap Mills.
In keeping with Delbert’s wishes, there will be no services. Delbert was cremated and will be buried at Hot Coal Cemetery, Sophia.
The family asks that donations of sympathy be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America, 1000 Johnstown Road, Beckley, WV 25801.
