Luvonne S. O’Dell Boley

NETTIE — Luvonne S. O’Dell Boley, 77, of Nettie, passed away Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at her home, following a long illness.

Born Nov. 16, 1935, at Snow Hill, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Olin Chester O’Dell and Mary Elouise Cole Jones.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jennings E. Boley in 2011 and a brother, Everette Cole.

Luvonne was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church of Nettie, the Nettie Ladies Circle and a member of the Rainelle Red Hats Society.

She had worked as a clerk  for the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department and was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Dwayne R. O’Dell (Priscilla) of Beckley, Danny K. O’Dell (Linda) of Leivasy; one brother, Charles Cole of Leivasy; three grandchildren, Jennifer O’Dell, Jessica Workman and Joe O’Dell.

Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at the Olive Branch Baptist Church of Nettie, with the Rev. Troy George officiating. At her request, her body is being donated to science.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations of sympathy be made to: Hospice Care, 1129 Broad St., Suite 300, Summersville, WV 26651.

Roger F. Day

Roger F. Day of Glade Springs, Daniels, and Vero Beach, Fla., died after a sudden illness on Sunday, October 27, 2013. He was 83.

Mr. Day received a Baccalaureate Degree from Otterbein College and an LLB and JD from The Ohio State University School of Law. He served in The United States Army as a counter- intelligence officer.

Mr. Day was a Senior Tax Partner at the Columbus Office of the Law Firm of Jones Day until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of the Ohio State and Columbus Tax Hall of Fame which declared he was the best appellate advocate of his time and that litigation was not his only skill as he had unparalleled negotiating and settlement skills and more importantly, his ethical standards were beyond reproach.

Mr. Day was born in Sunbury Ohio, the son of the late Forest and Luretta Day.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Roberts Day; a son, Michael Day (Kelly) of Tiburon, Calif.;  step-daughters  Eva Fox Mate (Edward) of Lone Tree, Colo. and Catherine Fox Mott (Thomas), also of Lone Tree and grandchildren Kate Day, Anna and Samuel Mate and Elizabeth and Thomas Mott. He is also survived by his brother, Ross Day (Mary).

Roger Day was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Vero Beach, Fla. and Beckley Presbyterian Church.

A Service for the Celebration of Roger’s life will be held on Thursday, October 31, at 11 a.m. at the Beckley Presbyterian Church, 203 South Kanawha Street, Beckley.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beckley Presbyterian Church, First Presbyterian Church Vero Beach, Fla. or Greenbrier Valley Theatre, Lewisburg, W.Va.

Wiley Dorsey

MULLENS — Wiley Dorsey, 66, of Mullens, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 25, 2013.

Born September 15, 1947, he was the son of the late Jake and Bethel Hamrick Dorsey.

Wiley enjoyed hunting and fishing and was employed as a coal miner.

In addition to his parents, Wiley is preceded in death by his daughter, Shari Dorsey; grandson, Timothy Eugene Strickland.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Victoria Dorsey of Mullens; daughters, Frances Dorsey of Pineville, Mary Shepard and husband Barry of Parkersburg, Eugenia Shrewsbury and husband Jerald of Mullens; step-sons, Eric Justice and companion, Cheryl Cunningham of Beckley, Chad Justice of Fayetteville; brother, Robert Dorsey of Ohio; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and his dog Dusty.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Pastor Mickey Mitchell officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Friends may gather with the family Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at funeral home.

RICHWOOD — Melissa Lynn Durham, 46, of Richwood, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Mountain View Memorial Park, Richwood, with Pastor Larry Russell officiating.

KESLERS CROSS LANES — Guy Patrick Foster, 85, of Keslers Cross Lanes, died Sunday,  October 27, 2013. 

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 1 p.m. in the Zoar Baptist Church at Keslers Cross Lanes with Rev. William Johnson officiating. Jacqueline Hagerman, 93, of Beckley, passed away on September 20, 2013.

Clydia Ernestine Noel

Clydia Ernestine Noel, age 88, of Kimberly Apartments, Daniels, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley. Her husband, Robert R. Noel preceded her in death in 1987.

She was the daughter of the late Clyde and Grace Stewart. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Stewart and by sisters, June Harris and Virginia Stewart.

Ernestine was born on April 14, 1925 in Chloe, W.Va., and grew up in Spencer, W.Va. She retired from Richmond Cleaners and Laundry. Ernestine was a member of the Glen Morgan Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children,  Robert “Bobby” Noel and his wife Peggy of Palm Coast, Fla., Frank Noel  and his wife Barbara of Grandview, Sandra Adkins of Beckley; a brother, Ben Stewart of Waynesboro, Va. 

Also surviving are her grandchildren, Stephanie Lucas and her husband Wayne, Brian Noel and his wife Jennifer, Josh Adkins, Brandon Adkins and his wife Christianne; step grandchildren, Robbie Richmond and his wife Alesha, and Mandy Yoder; great grandchildren, Tyler Lucas and his wife Kayla, Lyric Noel, Allee Adkins, Caleb Adkins, Ty, Mia, and Levi Richmond, and Taylor Yoder. Surviving special friends, Dennis and Shelia Treadway, Kenneth and Joann Fritz and Louise Epperly.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jim Bowyer officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Lucas, Dennis Treadway, and grandsons, Brian Noel, Josh Adkins, Brandon Adkins and Tyler Lucas.

Ted Lawrence Pendry Sr.

PRINCETON — Ted Lawrence Pendry Sr., 93, of Pendry Lane, Princeton, died peacefully Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Princeton Community Hospital.

Born April 11, 1920, in Key Rock, W.Va., he was the son of the late William Pendry and Dora Green Pendry.

Ted was a retired coal miner with 30 years of service having worked for Hawley Fuel in Landgraff and also worked for Pepsi Bottling in Princeton. Ted was a member of the Pisgah United Methodist Church for over 50 years and had sung in the church choir.

While his health permitted, Ted enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his garden and doing wood working projects.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Sherald (Gene) Pendry and a granddaughter, Sheri Lyn Pendry, along with 16 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 73 years Lucille Stewart Pendry; two sons, Ted L. Pendry Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Princeton, James Pendry and wife Colleen of Lexington, Va.; a daughter, Mary Lee Easter and husband Kenneth of Clearmont, Fla.; daughter in law, Linda Pendry of Princeton; a brother, Frank Pendry of Matheny; eight grandchildren: Skip Easter, Tim Easter, Chuck Pendry, Larry Pendry, Kevin Pendry, Marshall Pendry, Tammy Easter and Amy Goode; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

We will celebrate the life of Ted Lawrence Pendry Sr. Thursday, 11 a.m., October 31, 2013 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road with Pastor Bob Boozer officiating. Burial will follow in the Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Helen H. Rader, 96, of Orlando, formerly of Summersville died Thursday,  October 24, 2013.

David Webster Rutledge

David Webster Rutledge, 63, of Coal City, went home on Friday, October 25, 2013 at his residence.

Born February 14, 1950 at Mitchell’s Ridge, he was the son of the late William and Leona Rutledge.

Mr. Rutledge had worked as coal miner and in his spare time he enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting ginseng with his family.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Elsie Rutledge of Coal City; son, Stoney Rutledge and his companion Sherrie McKinney of Coal City; son, Rusty Rutledge and companion Amanda Blankenship of Coal City; daughter, Vickie Teel and her two children Stacey and Kaylie of Coal City; son, David Rutledge Jr. and wife Teresa of Mullens; son, Steven Rutledge and wife Angie of Bassett, Va.; daughter, Milinda Rutledge of Matoka; nephew, Michael Brown; niece, Sameria Brown; grandson, Hollie “Ray-Ray” McKinney and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In honoring David’s wishes he was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
